What did Yoda Mean?

When Yoda reminded Luke about his failure on Dagobah,what the hell was he talking about?What did Luke fail at?

Was it because he gave into the Dark Side of the Force by chopping off Vader's head in the cave?

Interesting.Luke did fire up his blade first.I can't remember who attacked first.

Yoda was indeed refering to Luke failure in the cave for a few reasons. First Luke failed to trust himself to leave his weapons behind as instructed. Then he couldn't confront his worse fear without resorting to violence or the Darkside, The inability to accept that "Vader" was nothing more than the manifestation of Luke's own fears rather than a real entity compounded his temporary fall. Just my idea

also when luke seen his face in vaders mask when he went into the woods was yoda tryin to show luke that vader was his father and luke didnt understand it then.I always wondered it and yoda also said "You only take with you what you need" and said "NO GUNS you wont need them".I have always wondered this

Ok: a couple things. 

1) Yoda didn't conjure up the Vader specter.  That was a manifestation of the Dark Side power of the cave.

2) Luke saw his face in Vader's mask because it was foreshadowing what he would become if he followed the dark path.  Remember, Yoda and Ben were going to tell Luke the truth only after his training was complete.  Why, then, would they risk jeopardizing everything by trying to slip him the info sooner?

Exactly! I always thought that the Dark Side of the cave somehow knew what Luke's biggest fear was...

I'm a bit foggy on this but doesn't Yoda say something about a Jedi using the force for defense, never for attack?????

If so then Luke fails due to the fact that he strikes first and thereby connecting with his darkside.

It is still a puzzle and I guess it's up to each of us to put our own interpretation on it.
