Now that the Force Unleashed has been released.  What are Hasbro's plan to include more characters from the game into the 3 3/4"  line?  And will there be re-releases of the figures that were out earlier this year?

Now that the Force Unleashed has been released.  What are Hasbro's plan to include more characters from the game into the 3 3/4"  line?  And will there be re-releases of the figures that were out earlier this year?

From the last Q&A:

Quote
Rebelscum: I just finished reading The Force Unleashed novel and I am now dying to play the game. I unfortunately didn't pick up all the TFU figures when they were available because I didn't appreciate how cool they really were!! I'm guessing that there are going to be A LOT of people in this same situation. Are you going to re-release any of The Force Unleashed figures to meet the new demand now that the game is finally out? There are also a ton of additional characters, like PROXY, that would make amazing figures! Please tell me that there is hope of getting a PROXY one day!

Hasbro: We will be looking at re-releasing most figures eventually as part of the "greatest hits" sub-line or Saga Legends. We haven't slotted them all in yet. Proxy is high on our list of figures we would like to do, and do not rule out the possibility that we will do more TFU figures. One more, Shaak Ti, will be in the basic figure lineup in late 2009, but any additional figures would not be out until 2010 at the earliest if we did decide to pursue some more (and after experiencing the game ourselves over the last week, there are a ton of great choices!).

Actually rebelscum is great to visit after any Q&A because they do a nice compilation to all of the questions asked by the many SW collector sites (incudling this one of course!)  so that way it's easy to see if someone else may have already asked the same question you'd been wondering about.

I know more than once just as I was typing up the same question to submit, it got answered by another collector... definitely a good timesaver.

Indeed. Too bad more people - especially the ones at the other websites that submit the questions - don't bother to read anything outside of their own. It's almost as if most websites have a "if we didn't ask it, it doesn't count" mentality about it.

Yeah, usually me  Wink

Here's a question:

On the new animated series Obi-Wan figure, you have added a ball joint at the shoulder that is covered up and solid, and it looks a lot more aesthetically pleasing than previous figures that had the connector showing. Was this a test run of this new type of joint, and will you be adding it to other figures going forward? I'd love to see it put in place as a standard on all figures with ball jointed shoulders, and hopefully ball jointed shoulders will become the standard.

THE latest:

1) Since the information flow around the TFU Stormtrooper Commander left something to be desired is there any way we will see this rereleased since it sounds like this was shipped in extremely limited quantities. I know you said that you are not handling the distribution but you could still release more of them right? If there was ever a figure to scream Saga Legend or Battlepack.

We are aware that a lot of fans were frustrated at the inability to get this figure and we will be looking at ways to get it back out there at some point, possibly for Comic Con next year.

2) Back in July you said in a Q&A session that there will be about 4 or 5 figures based on concept art coming in 2009. I'm just wondering if you could give an update on these. Do you have a definite number nailed down now? Will they all be in one wave or spread out over the year? Will they be exclusives? (please no!) And finally, can you drop any hints at all about who they might be?

There will be no exclusives - they will all be mainline figures in Legacy/Droid Factory waves like the majority of the McQ figures in the 30th lineup.  At present time it looks like there will be four figures in 2009.

3) Now that you've entered the realm of removable hats for Imperial officers, any chance of a General Veers resculpt with a removable hat? This would have the added bonus of providing a nice custom "Walter Donovan" head for Indiana Jones enthusiasts who might be saddened by the demise of the Indy line and the absence of a Donovan figure.

It's unlikely we'll be getting to another Veers version any time soon.

Finally, a site that asked some questions this week that interested me... I've been checking all the sites for Hasbro's Q&As and this week just happened to have a lot of questions that had little to do with my personal interests.  Just sorry to see that there's no plans for an updated Veers any time soon.  But it does look like, from the posted pics on Hasbro's website of the new figure stands & labels, that Anakin will be one of the upcoming concept figures in that wave.

Dear Jaing Skirata.....

We will, yes be repainting more horribly articulated mandalorians in up coming comic packs for customer enjoyment.

If we can find a way to yet again utilize evo Jango, legends boba, saga boba's bodies in creating these figs, we will do so for you the fan. Tongue

Now for a real question:

Dear hasbro, Is there any potential chance of getting figures from the Jude Watson book series, last of the jedi?

Dear Hasbro,

The move to a build-a-figure format is encouraging, a proven formula it showed with the Marvel line. Do you plan on expanding this idea in the future? Maybe a build-a-weapon, build-a-Sith, or build-a-Jedi figure? Maybe you can incorporate this with your vehicle line and make a build-a-death star.

After a years worth of buying ships you can have a dozen parts that when put together resembles the death star. I would advocate for a half circle that could be anchored to the wall, with large panels that are hinged, that open up to display the innards, areas within the Death Star. I could also sketch something up if Hasbro likes the idea. Which is a reach. I think this is the ultimate weapon, er.. toy that Hasbro needs in the SW universe line. Not only would Hasbro sell tons of ships, because you'd have to have all the parts but the Death Star would become the ultimate collectible! I know at first it seams far fetched, but really it isn't. I wouldn't put it on scale with the new M.Falcon ship, but certainly with the others. Call it the Build-a-Death Star 2 line, allowing it to look incomplete as in the movie, as you build it.

So how does the Q/A question selection work on this site? Are we allowed to submit questions without them getting shotdown and picked apart or do we need to vote off a list a of preapproved questions?

I only ask because I also post on another board that shall remain nameless and after a few weeks of submitting thoughtful, relevant questions and having them picked apart and receiving responces like "no, they'd never do that" and NOT giving them a fair shake and at least letting Hasbro have a chance to answer, I don't think I will be submitting anymore questions on that site.

Are there any "rules" I need to know before submitting questions on this site?

Well I don't know about official rules... but I would say we try to avoid overly lengthy rambling questions, or questions that we know for a fact have been asked before.... other than that, if they are good questions they typically get asked ...eventually.  You may get comments from others on your question, some may be critical, but it doesn't mean that it's not a valid question to be asked.

I know you got some good ones bro! Let em rip!

Here is mine:

Is it at possible that Hasbro could reconsider their position on selling figures in an on-line form. Small runs, exclusives, limited editions similar to how Mattel is doing with their new Masters of the Universe Classics collection? Obviously no one would be willing to pay a $20 premium for a 3 3/4" figure but at a reasonable amount like $10-13. This would allow collectors to finally get a hold of some not so kid friendly figures. It could also allow Hasbro to release some figures from other lines. GI Joe, Indiana Jones and Transformers.

Thanks guys, very cool. I will start posting some questions then.

Okay, here are some questions that I have been working on. I apologize ahead of time for anything that's been asked before.

A few of these are similar, but just worded differently.

Thanks again.

*

"As the years go by, do existing molds and tooling for the midsize vehicles become more expensive to run or less expensive to run? Example: The ARC-170's and the Republic Gunships have seen 3+ variants each. 3 for the ARC-170 including the upcoming TRU version and 5 for the Republic Gunship including the upcoming WM version. These are iconic vehicles and are great army builder vehicles for all of the various clones (realistic and animated).

If they are less expensive to run, i.e. creating more profit per vehicle, will Hasbro continue to re-release these mid-size vehicles in light of the Clone Wars cartoon? And would it not be in Hasbro's best interest to offer army builder vehicles that can purchased repeatedly over time by collectors and children alike in order to recreate backyard space battles?"

*

"When Hasbro has been asked about various potential vehicles (Cloud Car, Sentinel Class Imperial Landing Craft, Nu-Class/Republic Attack Shuttle, etc.), the response has been invariably been something along the lines of "No, we're not doing that, we're looking to do more aggressive looking vehicles". 1. Define aggressive looking and 2. What vehicles would you be referring to and will they be small ($20-$25 price point) or mid size ($35-$50) price point? 3. Would it not be in Hasbro's best interest to offer army builder vehicles that can purchased repeatedly over time by collectors and children alike in order to recreate backyard space battles?"

*

"Hasbro has said that we will continue to see large vehicles again if the Millenium Falcon and the AT-TE sell well. Let's say that hypothetically they are selling well: What is the next large vehicle we would likely see and when?

And how have they been selling since their release in July?"

*

“In light of Adam May of Galactic Blogger/Galactic Hunter winning the Target ‘Wow or Never 2007’ contest and subsequently receiving his very own custom action figure and cardback as one of the prizes, would Hasbro ever entertain the idea of following this example and offer their own custom action figure and card back? We understand this wouldn’t be cheap, but it would make a pretty nifty Christmas or Birthday gift for kids and collectors alike.

You’d be asked to submit a picture or two, a preferred bio or backstory, select a body (from a handful of choices of Hasbro’s choosing), a weapon or accessory or both, a reasonable amount of money, and 5-6 weeks later you get your very own action figure with a custom cardback .

There are a few websites and companies that offer custom or build your own products based on their standard product offering from things like sunglasses and tennis shoes, to things like a personalized bobble head.”

*

“In the last round of questions, Imperial Shipyards asked about when we might see more speeders. Hasbro’s response to this was "…less of a priority for us while we concentrate on more "aggressive" new vehicles…".

1. How does Hasbro define “aggressive”?
2. What ‘aggressive’ new vehicles can we be looking forward to and will they be the small ($20-$25 price point) or mid size ($35-$50) price point, or possibly large ($100-$150)?”

*
“What are the chances of Hasbro offering an army builder clone with 3 helmets (Phase 1 trooper, Phase 2 trooper, and Phase 1 pilot)? They all share the same body/armor and the only difference is the helmet.”
*
“We have been seeing more and more great offerings in the Galactic Heroes line. What are the chances we will see GH Republic Gunship and AT-TE for our little buddies?”
