thanks dustrho for the pic help....as this project moves along, I will update with more pics.  As far as what will be here, be mostly the basic stuff, carded figs on the board.  I will make some shelves below and above the pegboard to hold dioramas and Unleashed figures....some ships hanging from the ceiling.  My higher $$ items will remain in the house in my little corner of the game room.

PS: I have to thank my wife Amy for all of her help today.  I think she was as excited as I was to get this started.

That is going to be one sweet garage. The weather wouldn't affect the figures though would it? As far as temperature in the garage..

i'm betting not too much....many of my figures were stored in the attic, where it's hotter in the summer and colder in the winter, and no bad effects yet, so this should be ok....i hope.

Very cool...a StarWars Garage Hide-Away!!  I love it.

Now if we can just Photoshop that Coors with a Colt 45, you will be truly in the StarWars Universe!!!

Keep the pics comin', I know it makes you feel great to get to have your collection back in order.  Very much deserved. :)

Starfox, I just checked out your collections page with more images of your new SW room, and am blown away!  Where did you get that artwork of the Bounty Hunters in the Hangar Bay?  I love it, as well as, of course, the Dewback Patrol from Dorman.  Both stunning pieces!  Got some nice figure set ups there too!  I can't wait to see it all!

I love the pegs with figs hanging...I may need to do that before you throw your copyright on it and charge me money... ;)

And that Dorman pic is one of my favorites.  Dorman artwork ROCKS!!!

I've looked for that print for years and finally found it on ebay, it wasn't cheap, I think around $150 and the framing cost me another $100

Dave,

Just got a chance to look at this room, and it almost brings tears to the eyes....the arrangement is very nicely done, and you have some impressive set-pieces, my friend!  I can't wait to see this completely finished....us sandtroopers will have to make a special mission to Texas just to see it in person.

Fox,

What have you found to be the best key words to search for when looking for Star Wars art?

i will list it by artist, like the dewback one I would just type "dorman" and sift thru all the listings of dorman(tools and other stuff come up)

What I use is this

Star Wars print ,  star wars art,  dorman print, dorman star wars, star wars framed, star wars lithograph,

even at times star wars poster, but that brings up a s**t load of stuff

my problem with Vader is that his foot pegs are loose, so he likes to lean back way to far, so I have to prop him up a little in the back, but I have had no cape problems....(what cape problems are you referring to?)

man, Dave that Hoth Dio looks great. I am gonna be bugging you when I finally get around to building mine. If you dont mind, could you pm me that type of snow you used and how you got it to look so realistic / stay put? Heck a step by step process with pics in the dio thread wouldnt hurt my feeling either if you took pics along the way. Ofcourse I still love those four speeders coming in on that walker too.

i will have to do that, and Tamer, the info you seek will be sent via secret transmission at a later time ;)  I have to find a way to display the speeders without so much of the string or poles showing though

Arent those chrome ones like way over the top in price? I love all those troopers too. They make an atat driver bust yet besides the mini one? If you woulnt mind, I would love to see some more info on those cases you acquired.

thanks Shawn, these are highly addictive for sure ...the Chrome ones were mostly promotional, the Jango and Stormtrooper were around $65 from SWS.com as well as the chrome 3PO, the smoke chrome Vader was from MBNA when you got their MC/Visa and charged only $25 on the card, this was free!   No At-At driver yet, but when they do, you know I will get one for sure !  I have about 15 others not displayed yet, but soon....anyways, here is a link to the cases:

Detolf

very good and affordable to boot

very nice cases and very very nice mini bust collection, quite the investment you have made.

thanks Donovan, you will be here soon, now that you have begun to travel down this path  ;D

Detolf cases are quite nice. I have 3 right now, still empty, waiting to get my stuff out of storage  :'(

Did you get the lighting kit for the tops? I have those as well, but haven't installed them yet.

I'm looking into getting some acrylic risers to stagger the busts at different heights so that you can see them all when you're looking straight at the cases, not from the top. But all the ones I've seen so far have been pricey - or at least pricey considering how many I need to get.

I did not get the lighting kit, I think they are halogen and they get too hot as far as i am concerned.  I picked up at Target last night some battery operated LED lights with double back tape on them.  They are the size of the bust bases, so the are hidded below the center bust on each shelf.  These give off a nice mood lighting look.....i'll try to get pics posted.

Halogen ligths at max being on for long periods can cause problems or damage items, but i did something on my display that might do the trick.  I went to home depot and purchased some halogen ligths with a touch dimmer that has 3 ligthing settings.   These are usually used under the kitchen cabinets. These are small round ligths, also buy a touch on dimmer they sell for that ligthing kit and PRESTO.

I got GG, Kotos and other things in my display.

I only turn those on to display what I have there but those are never left on for more than 10 or 20 minutes, also I ligth up on setting 2 of 3 which is not that high and dont  heat up either. As I stated never leave those ligths on to much, a 10 or 20 minutes on just to show your stuff and it should do fine. But dont place any items too close to the bulb either. Look at my setup to get some ideas.

Here is my setup using those ligths I mentioned.

The ligths are brand Hamptom Bay  and are sold for around $20.00 and the dimmer for those is around $20.00

now the lights are not very bright, but look good when it is dark everywhere, here are a couple of pics, hard to take in the dark with no flash, the pics do not due this justice, when only the lights in the case are on and the room is dark, it really looks kick-ass

A very nice!  Your collection rocks Dave!  It has inspired me to get my stuff whipped into shape.  My rooms have been neglected as of late and I need to get some pics up here of it.  I think I am holding out for the new room when we add onto the house, then I will have 3 rooms!

thanks for the compliments!  it took me a long time to get mine started, but once I did, I did not want to stop, and now my room is practically full and I don't have much room for new stuff  :-\

definitely get some stuff up, you will really like it once you do....when are you adding to the house?  doing it yourself or paying a contractor?

A contractor so it won't take 10 years for me to get it done.  We are planning on 900 sq. ft. and depending on the price having them extend the basement under the new section.

I really like those cases and the lights really look good. Might just have to get a few for my Hoth dio. Thinking maybe some of those undercabinet lights too, but think that might give too much light and these might just be the ticket. You ever use em pointing up through the glass shelves? If so, good effect or not really? Anyhow, nice stuff. Your room filled up quick.

I'm a completist, sort of, with the figs only.  I get at least 1 of each for any that are "new".  I pass on the rereleases on new cards and such.  With the busts and statues, I would just get whatever ones I wanted.

Now I can show my wife that I'm not the only poor victim of this disease!
Well done, man.
I have a suggestion:
If you decide to use stands for your loose figures, I suggest the ones at Brian's Toys.  They're cheaper than any others that I have found for sale, and they're clear.  I paid $100 for 500 of them.  They have them for vintage figures as well.
I've lasted thru 3 earthquakes, and never had a figure take a nosedive yet.

I agree about the Hasbro stands.  Between the Saga stands, and the new Saga2/TAC stands, I have a million of them, and they're just sitting in a bag.

The Hasbro stands are nicer IMO, even though they do take up a little more room. I'm trying to buy up enough of the stand packs so that I can put every Hasbro figure on the same stand... except for the ROTS line and a few of the SAGA figures that came with "Scene Specific" type stands.

I need to hurry and get one of those.  I was going to get one at CIV for the $35 price, but they were out.  I was surprised that hts.com has them for that price, I just need to pull the trigger and buy it.

It looks good, almost like it was made of metal, but I passed on it at C4. My family and I all had a good laugh when I went to pick it up excepting it to be heavy and it was very light weight.

I was going to buy one until I picked it up.

Nice job on those Detolf shelves Dave!  I now have an another bust to add to my collection and room on my makeshift shelf comes at a premium.  I did visit Ikea and see those Detolf's in person.  I will definately be getting a couple of those for my busts when I get around to cleaning out the garage and start my star wars room.  I do have to ask, what did you use to elevate your busts?

down at garden Ridge in Austin, I found these plastic photograph cubes, about 3 in x 3 in, for $1.99 each, they are a clear plastic and hold up fine to the weight of the bust...that is what the busts on the back row are on

in the middle section, i used a bust ups box, it sits about 1-1/2 inches high and about 3 in wide, perfect for the bust to set a little higher than the front row.....forum member Taurs taught me that secret  ;)

You are one of only 4 people to own a DC original... I usually like my stuff so much that I don't want to let it go  :P

The others are:

ARC Trooper Commander (auctioned on Ebay with money going to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina victims)
Sandblast 2006 Sandtrooper bust-up (Chicanodom)
Sandblast 2007 Clone Commander bust-ups (Darth Sheba)

And that's it. Every other item I've ever made is still in my collection.

You are one of only 4 people to own a DC original... I usually like my stuff so much that I don't want to let it go  :P

The others are:

ARC Trooper Commander (auctioned on Ebay with money going to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina victims)
Sandblast 2006 Sandtrooper bust-up (Chicanodom)
Sandblast 2007 Clone Commander bust-ups (Darth Sheba)

And that's it. Every other item I've ever made is still in my collection.

I am truly a lucky fella, thanks for sharing your talent

You're very welcome!! After all the stuff you've found for me, it's the least I could do to repay you somewhat.

People keep telling me that I should make stuff and put it up on ebay and I could probably get good money for it... the ARC I made for Katrina sold for close to $90 if I recall correctly... but like I said, I usually can't part with my stuff after it's done...

Do you want them with glass doors or without? And what will you be displaying in them? Do they need to be as wide/deep as the Detolf?

I have a wall section that i can fit 3 detolfs in but I have my movie posters on that wall and do not want to cover them up.  I will be displaying more GG busts and statues, so about the same depth would be preferable, maybe a little deeper, but not too much.  Glass doors are key for maximum viewing and I do not want to pay an arm and a leg.

ok, I redid my Hoth scene with some miniature figures instead of Habro 3 3/4 figures...here are a few shots.  I am still trying to make it look good, but what do you guys think?  this a better more to scale version look better or the old way with Hasbro figures?

that is some fake snow purchased at Hobby Lobby around christmas time, it's like small shreds of white plastic trash bags (best way to explain it) and it's very light

thanks Dave!  The Code 3 Gunship came with this stand packaged in the box, it's a black felt covered stand, nice and soft.  Now the extra Bly head?  Glad you asked....several years ago this wise customizer came to me with a request to use my Bly Koto head as a cast for some unique projects.  As a reward for sharing, he made me this awesome extra Bly head with the visor up for normal viewage.  I alternate the heads when I reshuffle or dust things off.  Nice work, don't you think Dave?

I remember walking into Target one day and someone had already been so kind as to remove the standup from the shelf unit and just leave it in the aisle. I grabbed it, put it in my cart, and continued shopping. When I got to the register, I told the cashier that one of the guys in the toy department told me I could have it. She just looked at me and went about her business, and I walked out with it :D

Damn....

The lameos at my local target, are very lazy and lacking, but for some reasons they are hard pressed with keeping these for the trash pile.
