Darth Plagueis (SPOILER WARNING)
« on: January 23, 2012, 03:54:28 PM »
Started off with a bunch of political mumbo-jumbo, but turning into a really good read.
Plagueis has decided that the Sith can't rule or destroy the Jedi just with brute force. He has taken a different approach. To use his fortune in the Banking Clan to gain political power. He also goes about not following Bane's "Rule of Two".
So far just got to where and how he came upon Palpatine. Seems ole Palpatine was born from non-Force user parents. Hmmmmm
He has killed his parents and siblings and pledge his alligeince to Plagueis.
Palpatine has been with Plagueis for 11 years now. Puts him at 30. Almost at the half-way point.

More EU continuity issues.
The Maul situation has been over-written in the Eu to fit the CW's accounts of the character.
Palpatine was given Maul when he was not even a year old by a Nightsister. Which the clan knows about Savage, but didn't know about Maul. Was already born with the tattooes. Unlike how the EU has written him.

I found the book reading experience kind of choppy

some areas went into great detail while others were merely mentioned

I wanted to like this book more than I did

Finished the book.
Overall and good read. I liked the way Luceno tied the book to The Phantom Menance and was surprised how long Plagueis was around. Wasen't killed until PM. Didn't know how to take it because I'm a believer in keeping movie cannon and EU seperate, but Luceno did a good job with over-writing the EU. But also used elements from DM:Shadow Hunter. An EU story.
It was Plagueis who got the wheels in motion for the CW. The conception of Anakin was well written as well.

I just finished the book myself, and I recommend it. Leave it up to someone else to make TPM look good. There is a lot of politics, but the prequels were pretty political anyway. Until Plageous meets Palpatine, it's kind of slow, with a lot of throwaway characters. But once the wheels are in motion, I could stop. There is an attack on Plageous that makes him very evil and familiar. And there are things like how Palpatine meets Sate Pestage that are interesting. I would like to see Plageous as a figure one day. The Reading Rainbow!!!
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.
