Sandcrawler, what are the chances?
Uncle George:
--- Quote from: Napseeker on October 06, 2009, 10:55:45 AM ---I already asked Hasbro about a Big Sandcrawler in one of the Q&As over at snowtroopers and their response was "sorry, too expensive to make and not aggressive enough"... no big surprise. I even suggested they could make it more kid friendly by including BaD pieces with the crawler so kids could assemble their own droids a la the Kenner Droid Factory playset. They apparently thought of that, but still nixed the idea as too big of an expensive gamble.

Not aggressive enough? What the heck, how many aggressive Vaders and Mauls do we need? Tie Fighters, X-Wings, Y-Wings, Interceptors, etc... I worked in injection molding eons ago. I don't see technically that the mold for a new Sandcrawler as a challenge and ''gamble'' and I believe that Hasbro will recoup their $$ in no time. Making the Sandcrawler bigger would be a piece of cake for any Chinese manufacturer. If not, why gamble with the big and more intricate Millenium Falcon and sold for $150 in these times of hardships? Not too long ago in collector years we paid $100+ for the Royal Starship (new mold), AT-ATs (old retooled mold) etc....The money is in our pocket waiting for pieces like this, meanwhile we get rehashes and overpriced pieces i.e. CW Y-wing, ARC-170, Lars Homestead
etc....
Well, anyhoo, let me share with you all these 3 pictures. I read on one of my SW tech guides years ago that the Sandcrawler model used in a New Hope had such powerful motors that it could pop a ''willie''. It also said that model makers didn't have the chance to finish the model and that the other side not shown in camera wasn't finished. I told the story of this to my son (11 at the time), so when the model was brought to the SW Exhibit in the Science Museum of MN, we couldn't resist to take a peak ;)
Sorry if this pictures takes away some of the magic ;)
Vadersfist:
Thats really cool Uncle George. The Sandcrawler pop a wheelie is soooooooooo funny to think about though. I am still laughing about that comment you made in here. I could just image 2 sandcrawlers racing pop wheelies and the tail pipes going aaaarrrroooooommmaaa zooooommmm, zooooom. Just like that cartoon speed buggy.

Cool little bit of info. Thanks
Darth Spice:
It is very surprising not to see the Sandcrawler but once since the revival of the new line. We've seen the Falcon, AT-AT and many others. I'm sure Hasbro isn't bothered about crancking out another "exclusive", so what gives? I wonder how many would purchase an updated Sandcrawler?
dustrho:
I think Hasbro should remake all the vehicles in a more scaled-accurate version. Could you imagine just how big an AT-AT would be if they made that the right way? If they made it the right way and cost $500, I think I would buy it. Just thinking about it is making my mouth water.
