Ebay auctions that make you say WTF?
« on: January 16, 2009, 08:55:13 PM »
I'll start with this one:

Force Unleashed Shadow Guard - loose complete - $30.55??

Why on earth would somebody pay that much for a loose Shadow Guard?? I don't understand.

All I can say is for the Shadow Guard is I guess someone wanted it really really bad and didn't care how much they spent.

I often wonder when I see bids like that if one of the seller's buddies is just trying to get the bid higher

I've dealt with echobase several times. They have never jacked up bids on me in my dealings with them.

What I've noticed lately is there are a lot of member names like a***a, a***b, a***c, a***d etc. is it too hard to take the time to be original or are these names just used to jack up bids?

Jacking up bids is 1 reason WHY I hate ebay and couldn't care less about it because I think the president of Ebay should step in and stop some of this.

the bids r now confidential so they use those instead of their real user name.

why do bids need to be confidential all of a sudden what was wrong with the old ways?

Here's a few that I found this evening... some 'suspect' customs. I can't say that I fault the creator/seller for these, but rather the buyers. I mean, all this guy does is take an existing figure and pop a new head on it... and he's getting $19.99 and more for them. These are custom figures that my 4 year old nephew could make for f**k's sake.

Personally, I think it gives customizers a bad name. This is one of the biggest reasons why I was always so opposed to selling custom figures in the past. If not for being unemployed I probably would still be opposed to it, but I would obviously be a hypocrite if I said that now... lol. But I think it gives us a bad name, because I usually spend hours working on a figure, and all this guy does is pop off heads and put them on other bodies, and he's actually getting more money for these then I got for some of my figures recently.

Honestly if it's something that interests me and I want it I wouldn't mind paying reg retail but not $20, I realize those as they stand cost $14 just using the parts from two figures, but it lacks true craftsmanship.

You can't even really say that though. I mean, sure, it's two figures technically, but unless he threw away the parts he didn't use from the figures, he still has basically an entire figure left over, so the cost really is a single figure - or around $7. You know the customizer motto - throw nothing away!

This guy must think he's a really great artist. $12 million! Mu-ha-ha-ha! He's had other works up too for the same amount.

If he's just trying to showcase his work, wouldn't DeviantArt be better?
