New Box Set(s)
« on: October 30, 2008, 02:31:21 PM »
I was at Target today and saw both the OT and PT box sets for sale.  Right above them was the upcoming releases board, which said 11/4.  Huh.  Anyway, does anyone know if there's anything new in these, besides the packaging?  I had heard that they were waiting to release box sets until the format war was over, but these were plain ol' DVDs.  Maybe I'm thinking of the ultimate, complete, I-VI box set.  Who knows?

Thats what i have the big 4 disc set of the OT and the two disc versions of the 3 prequels. Plenty of special features and everything in all that so theres no way ill be buying these "new" sets, they seem a bit pointless to me.

I will say that I can't think of ANY SW nut that doesn't have these movies. But then again maybe these re-release movies are for the beginner that is JUST getting into SW.

Yeah but a there cant be many people out there who ARE begginers surely. If they never bothered buying the movies before why would they now just because they are in a box? I dunno, i will never understand why they re-release things so much.

Well it could be that with the NEW CLONE WARS TV show sparked something in them that the person decided to buy the movies since they forgot how much they loved SW and missed it and didn't have them in there collection of movies. Who knows really why they do the re-releasing of so much but whatever it is, I'm sure its a marketing thing totally to bring in more money.

Lol yeah i know they do it just to make more money i just wonder how they justify it, i guess your explanation about the Clone Wars sounds reasonable enough.

I think its just another way to make money, because there are always a lot of people who buy them just because the box is different from the ones they have.

i am guessing because the purists want a dvd of the original version we saw in the theaters back in the 70's-80's and can easily compare it to the remastered versions, but heck, what do I know   :-\

I saw those at Target back on Tuesday. I just shook my head, muttered "shocker" to no one in particular and continued on my way.  ::)

I too seen them but I really was in a hurry to run back and check the pegs!  :P  Didn't really matter if it was a few day early!  8)  I'm not buying them either, I'll wait for the 3-D's to come!!

Well I am gald they rerelease this stuff my older kids need to buy thier own sets and quit borrowing mine.  :P
My daughter borrow mine to watch them with another one of her friends who has never seen any SW flick.

Suprisingly not everyone has seen a SW movie, recently, I know a friend at work who always dogged them, but my other buddy told him "You say that becuase you never watched them."  Now the first friend likes them and will probably get the new set.

they are only re-re-re-releasing these to put more money in GL's pocket. Yeah there are people who have not seen them or don't have them all already. I highly doubt GL is releasing these for those people he probably figures his die hard fan base will buy anything he puts out in new packaging thinking there is something special about them. I will pass on these as well. The only way I would buy another box set of SW is when they put all the deleted scenes back into all the movies and make one big box set instead of two small sets. I might be tempted to buy the 3D set but I would have to rent them first or watch them at another troopers house.

These might be worth picking up (IMO) if there's enough extra features, deleted scenes and commentary. Are there any specifics about these anywhere? There ain't jack s**t of a detailed description on StarWarsShop.com's site.

They have like 29 hours of extra footage and every year they give us a little bit of that so we keep buying the new boxes. Its like a love-hate relationship!

So what are the special features? The same we've had or are the deleted scenes and blooper reels finally there?

From what I can gather, it's the exact same content we have already...in a spiffy new box.

I really can't wait for the update to TPM so they can replace that puppet Yoda with the AOTC CGI version personally.

The ESB puppet was fine it actually looked like a living breathing character but that abomination in TPM was horrid!
