Hey guys, I finally have enough troopers to really call an army and really am looking for a way to showcase them. I am looking for a cheap and easy way to light up my middle shelve for my army with lights so that when I want to, I can turn the light on and see my army whenever I want to and show them off to anyone I want. If anyone has any suggestions I am open to ANYTHING. As long as it is a cheaply and easy suggestive way to light up a shelve for my trooper army. I hope this is where you post something like this at.

battery operated puck lights is what I use in my cases to show off.....you may also look for an under the cabinet kitchen light if you want to plug it in, both are cheap for under $10

Battery operated lights are the best, but be careful of how hot they get. Usually the battery op lights don't get too hot so you should be ok. Best bet is those push on lights that look like short circles. I think you can stick them anywhere, and you just push them in and they light up.

I purchased some different lights for my Ikea cabinets, but even before I installed them, I tested to see how bright they were, and they were way too hot to put in with some toys.

Thanks guys, because I actually HAD a few of the hockey puck lights that the GF was hiding from me,lol, but... for the most part,... the lights are working great. I DO need to get a few more though as she only had 2 for my shelve.

I do a lot of electrical work and figured I would chime in on this subject. The puck lights are a good choice, just be careful with the bulbs. Most of them are Xenon bulbs and get VERY hot! Try not to get any oils from your fingers on the bulb when changing them (use a napkin or something to hold them.
Another viable option would be rope lighting if your cases are long enough. It's a much softer light and it can be snaked around however you see fit. The rope lights plug into a regular 110v outlet, so it doesn't take much to get them going.

Good luck with it VadersFist.

Ikea carries a puck light (Grossby) for 3.99 and they work awesome. Comes in Black, Silver, Red & Green!
The also have some cool LED lighting kits called Dioder. They run about $40-$50 and are pretty nice. Go check out the Ikea!

As for the Ikea I can't have anything like that in my home because I live in a Apt. The $40-50 for lighting is a bit over the top for what I would like to spend on lighting. My GF had bought 3 cheap puck lights from the dollar store and they are great but they DON'T stick to the upper shelve, like I wanted them to and they ended up falling down which in turn, knocked down my army. So I had to set them back up and didn't put up the lights again so now rope lighting is another avenue that I might be going down.

Yeah I have that happen from time to time. Makes it look the the army was bombed from orbit. The Puck lights from Ikea are cheap and look cool (more LED's in em 3 per light). Get some real strong double sided tape and/or clean the surface (under shelf) with some rubbing alcohol, let it dry and they stick way better. No more Death From Above!!

Hmm, have you seen those battery operated lights that when needed, you press it and it light up. When not needed, you just press it again. It those that used in home washroom so that you no need to switch on the main light. I hope you know what I talking about.  :)

Yeah I am using those hockey puck looking lights right now but 1 right now totally sucks. I need to get some better ones soon to better light up the shelve. The ones I have right now my GF bought and well,..... one of the light bulbs blew out. So now I have 1 light that works and 1 light that just half ass works.

Have you got those X'mas lights? You can try recycle them instead of buying new ones. Put back on the X'mas tree when you need to use it again  ;D Save the earth too by recycling.

You could always apply velcro to them too Bobby.

depends on what mood you are wanting to set....red for sithly areas, blue or green for jedi areas or plain white just to show them off

give the props to the proper people, kk  8)   you can also look at the rope lighting, a little more neat looking than just a string of christmas lights

I am going to go with the foxy idea of rope lighting since that is thinner and easyer to do and more cost effective.

I finally got my lights TONIGHT because I had my GF buy them for me and she got red for sith/clone army and white for my TF's. Anyway it looks amazing on my shelves of these 2 colors.

I used the christmas tree lighting but the GF is heading back this next week to get me some rope lighting BUT,...... I don't know WHAT COLOR to chose SINCE she bought white and red small christmas lights. Any idea what I could do next in color. I was thinking about the BLUE rope lighting but I don't if it would look good or not.

Oh thought u have already thought what color to use previously. Actually, if u used all white lights, it would be best. Cos you can change the color of light whenever you like by wrapping a color transparent plastic over the bulbs. No need to worry too much and decide when you want to change when you like it. :)

Well the neutral light did work for my TF's but as the red lights where great in all, but something was really missing when I put them up. I got christmas lights instead of rope lighting but hey,... its cool, because I will be getting some rope lighting this coming week.

I just wanted to update my light situation in what I did with my shelves. First, in what I did was, I used the red for my SW collection which of course is made up of mostly clones and sith anyway, then Darth Zannah bought me some blue rope lighting. Secondly, I wrapped the blue rope lighting around both of my shelves, which mostly the blue rope lighting is on where the TF's are at. Then used the remaining of the blue light to run in front of the shelf and wrapped nearly all around the second one. White lights where the TF's are at are for my "ON" lights as a house light, so when I want to make changes to the shelf I can. I will get pictures as soon as possible, but right now I don't know when. I will say that the lights I have set up so far are a pretty awesome setup and when I get pictures I will take some advice on what I should do to possible make it better. But right now, I still have a couple more things I need to do before I DO take pictures. I still need to cover parts of the shelf that are showing white and then get a 2ND pair of red lights to make a square, then it should be complete. :td:
