What does S.C.A.L.P. mean?
« on: June 22, 2004, 12:23:35 AM »
S.C.A.L.P. is and acronym for Sandtroopers . Com Auxilary, Long-Range Patrol. While we understand that some of you are new to the crew, we will do our best in here to keep up with Sandtrooper terminology. S.C.A.L.P. Troopers are the most feared among the scalper. The dirty armor, necklaces made of scalper teeth and the distinctive brown toe on the boots will make them easy to spot!  ;) We look forward to installing a S.C.A.L.P. rewards program that will honor Troops for outstanding service in the S.C.A.L.P. Army! Stay Tuned!
There will come a time when your training ends. There will come a day when you have learned all the lessons, when all my knowledge of the dark side will be yours. On that day you will challenge me for the title of Master, and only one of us will survive the encounter.

Yeah, I'd like to know you think is a scalper here.  If you're serious and don't want to shout out any names publicly, shoot me a PM or email.  I won't tolerate having any scalpers here in our forum.  Just the thought of one being here irritates me.   >:(

I'm not talking about anybody in particular I'm just being practical. I mean, C'MON!! I'm sure one of these members is a scalper, it just makes sense. Be realistic. Some collectors/scalpers buy everything. There is no way to be certain who but I'd bet anything that a few members are scalpers.

Oh believe it Master Shake. There are many sleepers, and we all know these slimeballs are dirty enough to pretend to be a collector and read Sandtroopers. Let me find one in here however.

I dont see it, there might be a scalper, here but I really doubt it. Unless you trace a eBay seller to this sight there would be no way to tell. I think that there might be alot on other bigger sights that think they are the end all, be all of SW, but not here. And I dont think scalpers would post very much in general, they (seems to me anyway) tend to be loners, who have nothing better to do than sit in there mothers basement and play "Mortal Kombat" and "Halo" with there shirts off.

You never know Y-Wing. WE are now 150 plus members strong and I don't see many posting at all. Many are just lurking, waiting for Darth Spice to start WWIII. Sit around and hang lurkers, pretty soon I'm sure I'll say something to piss one of you off into saying something!  ;)

I think Ywing is taking a more realistic approach to this scalper ordeal........sure, there might be a scalper among us.......but without solid proof of having a KNOWN scalper E-bay ID then what can anyone do?

Scalpers aren't the boogie man......they aren't bigfoot.....they just happen to want to hoard everything....and resell.......granted it does suck when you're looking for that one specific piece......but if you have a solid group of friends or a trade circle then you can find and own damn near anything you want.

What should be considered here I think is people backing away from this huge fear of scalpers......all of this talk of "there might be a scalper here" or "die slimey scalper" is a bit childish in my honest opinion. ::)

I've been buying/trading/selling toys for nearly 10 years now......... and I've NEVER once had to resort to buying something from a scalper just to get the item......  nothing that is manufactured today is truly rare.......with a little common sense and networking you can own anything.

Top Jedi is sort of right. Most items aren't too rare because they are mass produced. But the reason they ARE RARE is because of SCALPERS!!!!!!!!!! There are probably millions of every figure made circulating around but the reason they are rare is because of scalpers who buy them all up!! Then you have to pay a FORTUNE to get a figure you could have bought for $5 at Wal-MART!!! >:(

Actually man, that's not entirely true......not all the time is it this legendary "scalper" that's hoarding everything. Alot of times it also has to do with the production of items....IR Hasbro intentionally shortpacking figures....or only shipping one case of a certain assortment.......for example those rare Freeze Frame figures......or say those rare Micro Machine Action Fleet ships........scalpers didn't hoard those items......Hasbro screwed the individual collectors over......

Brian is right, the scalpers are not entirely to blame for some figures being so hard to find. Hasbro is the first to blame, its been almost 10 years since POTF2 came out one the red cards, if you look around, either online retailers, or eBay, the vast majority of these figures are not worth squat....Why because Hasbro flooded the retailers with them, there is simply so much of it out there, almost none of the figures are in demand. (except for a few varations i.e. Luke SS/LT or the whole Fett circle hand thing.) So Hasbro, trying to keep the line freash, gos to the green card, once again most are not worth squat. Now that the line has been out for a few years, Hasbro is starting to respond to the collectors crys of making new figures that are accurate, and "non-buff". Now comes the new sculpts in the FF line, the Vader w/ removable helmet, DS trooper etc.... Well this was late 97-98 not very long for a toy line, and Hasbro now had to worry about EPI that was right around the corner, so what did they do, reissue the collection 3 blue card FF last, and short packed were the FF Sandtrooper, and Weequay the ladder being so rare on a US card its gos for $300-500.00. So far the scalpers really havent impacted prices too much.
Now we have EPI, I'm sure that everyone who collects rembers seeing this stuff in the metric tons, as a matter of fact, I still see it on the pegs once in a while 5 years later. Once again the same thing, the last of the EPI stuff i.e. Queen w/ battle gun, and R2-B1, TC-14 etc. are hard to find because the retailers dont want anymore of this stuff littering there pegs. Hasbro also thinks its a good idea to release some green card com chip figures, and these too become HTF because the first wave, of Greedos and Hans, and Lukes are clogging the pegs.
So after the beating the retailers took on EPI merch they didnt order much POTJ stuff, but this line is Hasbros saveing grace, except for a few exclusives and the MOTDS 2 pack. There were no really HTF figures. This line moved well and never really seemed to staginate on the pegs. This is my best liked line of SW so far.
Enter EPII, just like EPI, retailers were flooded w/ this stuff again, I still see Tuskin Raiders w/ kid w/ the background card. The Saga line has been rather easy to find as a whole IMO, except for a few figures here and there i.e.- Ephant Mon, concept Stormtrooper, Emperor, etc. They really havent been too hard to find, even J'Quill, I've left on the peg more than one time.
Now with the OTC line, being out less than a year before EPIII, I have a fealling that the last of this line will be HTF at retail, not because there will be a great demand from collectors, but once again the retailers will not want to order much of this stuff with the EPIII on its way. And the last of the OTC stuff will be repacks anyway, so alot of collectors will not want it anyway
My point is that scalpers, (and what pisses me off more than that is the salad tossing card benders) do complicate the hunt for new figures, but sometimes you can beat them at there own game and get entire collection of figures for $2-3.00 per figure off the bay. So you got to take the good w/ the bad and accept that its part of the hobby.
We are a extreme fighting force of extraordinary magnitude !!!

Excellently put Ywing.......... it's easy to just blame the scalpers.....but in reality they really only play a very miniscule part of finding figures. ;)

Listen, we all know that Hasbro plays a big part in not being able to find new figs. Thats a given. The main reason why we voice our opinion about Scalpers, is because these are the people who are buying all the goods, and putting them up on ebay for an inflated price, ie. the cantina bar wave 2. We all seen the 300 dollar price tags for those. Some of the online stores are also included in Scalp complaints. Most of the troops that use this site, use it to help out fellow troops. Although there is always a possability of a SCALPER spy, the true troops know who each other are. Thats why we are here, and thats why troops post there finds.
Words can be broken, and so can bones. Execute the mandate.

Yep,

I agree that Hasbro is to blame for making almost impossible to find such action figures as Ephant Mon, but thanks to scalpers, I never seen it on the shelves. I have never won an auction on eBay for Ephant Mon since my max bid for it has been $8.00, and some people are paying as much as $25.00 or $30.00 for that single figure. I keep bidding up to my maximum of $8.00 and see if I ever get one.

Well man, in that case I'd quit wasting my time in bidding for an $8 Ephant.......instead I'd concentrate my efforts on trying to find something that's equally as interesting on the peg, and shoot for a straight up trade.

I don't have Ephant in my collection either.....but it's not the end of the world...believe me...   I did leave 3 hanging on the pegs before...LOL

Top Jedi,

You are right, I am also trying to get the Fan Choice #4 Mc. G Storm., which is also hard to get, and maybe I could try and trade that one for Ephant Mon. Hard to believe it is that you left 3 Ephant Mon on the pegs before... one of those opportunities that you did not take.

Wedge Wanna Be,

Thank You for offering to trade your Ephant Mon, but I do not have anything hard to get that you may need. How about selling it to me?
Or what it is that you will be looking for as trade for Ephant Mon?

Thank You both for your advice.
