eFX
« on: January 06, 2008, 08:25:24 PM »
just read on another site that eFX has gotten a liscense to do star wars props. not much is known about them but they appear to have a link to a top person at master replicas. here is a link to their site:
http://www.efxcollectibles.com
another piece of info is that their teaser ad states "coming 7-23-08" which is preview night at sdcc.

OK, wait a sec. It's the guys from MR? WTF?!? How does that make any sense? MR had the license, chose not to renew it... so then the guys from MR will start up a new company that basically is going to do what MR did with the Star Wars license? Makes absolutely no sense to me.

What I read was its the guy in charge of Star Wars at MR so maybe he isnt the big boss and his boss decided not to renew the SW contract to he left the company and started his own. Thats just my guess though but Im very glad to see the license was picked up by someone

That's what I thought as well. Makes perfect sense. It will be interesting to see though if they remake items MR has already produced. i.e., I have a MR Luke ROTJ Force FX Saber and now EFX is selling an Luke ROTJ EFX Saber.

I don't know if its everyone from MR but it sounds like the core group that did the SW stuff moving over.

When I read about eFX I darn near got a hard-on. I hope that the eFX products produced are in the MR style so that the new merchandise fits in with the old MR stuff. I specifically hope that the display cases will be the same.

What I really want is an X-Wing and a Tie Fighter. Oh, it's going to be a long wait until July 28th.

BUT really what ELSE could they give us? I'm not sure but didn't this company fail because they sorta played out the saber handle thing? Then they went into big dollar scale models which to this day I don't know too many people who bought the AT-AT, Y-Wing, Snowspeeder ect. but it will be interesting to see where they take the line and most important what the price points will be.

bad news for the people that like force fx lightsabers. saw this today:

Lucas Licensing Teams With Hasbro and eFX
to Bring High-End Star Wars Collectibles to Fans

New Agreements Begin This Month for Collectible Prop Replicas,
Vehicles and Popular Electronic Lightsabers

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2008) EStar Wars fans and collectors will find new lines of collectibles from Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS) and newcomer eFX in 2008, it was announced today by Lucas Licensing, a division of Lucasfilm Ltd.
Hasbro, Lucas Licensing’s master Star Wars toy and game licensee, will assume the design and production of the high-end, collectible electronic lightsabers line, called “Force FXELightsabers, which was previously made by Master Replicas.
Hasbro’s Force FX lightsaber line will debut in the spring and continues the remarkable popularity of electronic replica lightsabers among Star Wars enthusiasts. The line will feature replicas of the iconic weapons used by Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul and Yoda.
Newly formed eFX will develop, manufacture and distribute collectible, limited-edition replicas of both full-sized and scaled props; studio- and reduced-scale vehicles and ships; full-sized helmets; and high-end, die-cast vehicles and ships that encompass the entire Star Wars universe.
“Working with both Hasbro and eFX allows us to bring Star Wars fans some of the best collectibles we have ever offered,Esaid Howard Roffman, President of Lucas Licensing.

“These are incredibly creative, innovative companies with a real passion for Star Wars, and we think it’s going to show in the products they offer.E

Hasbro expects the first Force FX lightsabers to be available in the spring, while eFX plans to unveil its first products at Comic Con International in San Diego in July.

As funny as that is... I expect it to be true, to a certain extent. I'm sure that all Hasbro is going to do is just re-issue some of the MR stuff that's already been made. I don't know if they were able to acquire leftover MR stock, that they can just repackage, or if MR was willing to hand over their technology on how their stuff was made... but judging from the press release I wouldn't expect anything "new" from eFX until at least 2009. Unless you collect MIB items, then everything will be 'new'.

The eFX news is cool.  I am glad that they will be headed by the MR SW guys and they will still do scaled stuff.  The scary thing is Hasbro doing the FX lightsabers.  How many ways will they try to repaint a handle and give it to us?  Will they change the package design every year and drive people nuts?  Oh the things you can think that will go wrong.  How hard would it have been to give the FX sabers to the eFX guys since they were the ones who did them in the first place?

The only plus side I see to Hasbro getting the FX sabers is the funds available to Hasbro for R&D and advertising/promotion. I would love to see them develop the sabers like the removable LED conversions that are available from certain aftermarket "lightsaber overhaulers" with the acrylic tube blades that are virtually indestructible and removable!

Yeah, if there's one improvement I would like to see with the F/X style sabers, it would removable blades. Since they aren't going to be making the $400 versions, I wonder if they will incorporate them in?

Im really glad eFX is taking over the replicas line but we'll have to wait and see on hasbro. If they keep them at the quality that MR gave us then thats good. Im not to upset that they repack some first because I just wont buy them but I do hope they make some new ones at some point

I know a guy who talks with AB, BO, BJ who are the top three at efx. Get ready to pay the price for some of the items when they come out. They are going to be much more limited and from what I hear and probably not offering CE, LE, ect. It is going to be limited runs of items once they are gone they are gone. Example: Master Replicas offered 1,500 on an item, efx will offer 750 of the item. The reasoning behind this from what I have been told is they want to have the items retain a high collector status and it keeps them from having to deal with unsold items. Which I understand and is reasonable.

Do not know if you know this but Master Replicas NEVER sold out of an item even though they said they did. Most of the time they never made the suggested amount of the item which was a marketing ploy to make people think wow they sold out fast. No, like my studio scale Y-Wing it says 1,00 made in reality only 500 were ever made. The Stormtrooper helmet only 1,150 were made out of whatever the amount was and they said it was a sold out item. No in reality they did not make the amount. When I learned this just this week I was upset over that. I do not collect the helmets, only studio scale and weapons but still it is wrong to mislead the customers like so.
The signature versions are true to the amount signed so that is good they did not lie about that.

The first few items from this new company are the items that Master Replicas did not produce like the Studio Scale X-Wing (which is molded after the Hasbro X-Wing with a few changes), Ki-Adi Mundi Lightsaber, Biker Scout Blaster, Chewbacca's Bow Caster (in the works), ect.

I just hope that efx steps up and does not mess with the customers. I have met AB & BO several times and they have a good business head on them. Lets hope it stays.

Wow, what a bunch of crap. I bet a lot peeps will be upset they weren't able to get something because Mr indicated they were sold out, now only to find out they didn't make the marketed amount.
