Dave Dorman Celebration IV print:
« on: April 18, 2007, 09:23:47 AM »
I can't wait to get a hold of the new Dorman print featuring the 501st about to put a serious whuppin' on the Rebels! SW.com dropped the info on us last week, however you'll notice some familar things about the print if you look ever so closely. Mr. Dorman has been kind enough to keep us involved from start to finish. Stay tuned to ST.com for a complete behind the scenes look at the making of this amazing work of art!

I gotta be honest, this print rivals the Dewback Patrol (blasphemy, I know) for my favorite print of all time.  It is simply amazing.

This is an awesome drawing.
I hope they incorporate this shot into one of the TV series episodes coming up.
Seeing a shot like this live (in the movie sense) would be great!

I do not think the Artists were allowed to put up there whole edition size for pre-order.  Thus, you should be able to get this at the Con if you get there early.

Unfortunately all of the exclusive art at C4 can not be sold anywhere else except in some cases they can be sold at SWShop.  However, Dave completely sold out of his print so there will be no way besides ebay to get one of the numbered C4 prints.  However, it may possible down the road that if you see Dave at a show he would have an artist proof or two.

I recall you saying that you were mad for splurging so fast on all the goodies at C4.
I spendt a lot as well but had planned on it. But there was soooo much more I could have bought. This print one was of the items I had thought about.

UNLESS YOU WIN IT IN THE SANDBLAST!  :)   >:D

Who new it would be me!!!! >:D

I love this piece of art. Pleae tell Mr. Dorman thank you.
Not sure if he visits the site but here a couple of pics( i just posted them on this yrs sandblast as well.) of my new wall display.

I just dropped two large bills getting a custom frame and UV glass and mats for this.

The outer frame is black with red colored edging for Vader and the guards, and the grey matte matched the AT-ATs.

When I went today to pick this up I was kinda preplexed that they did not offer me the museum quality glass, it is non reflective and so clear you dont even notice it is there.  I may upgrade to this glass later.

Nice framing job on that piece, and in reality $200 isn't that bad of a price. When I inquired about getting a few of my pieces framed, they (Rag Shop) wanted almost $350 for most of them.

Wow Dave 350 is really high. I took mine to a gallery and they charged me 370 for both the Celebration prints plus gave a deal to get my Dewback Patrol fixed and looking the same as the others.

Donovan, great to see our big winners chiming in during Sandblast season. I'm very happy to see this is one of your favorite pieces in your collection!  ME too!  ;D ;)

Very nice! Actually, the price isn't that bad really and all depends on what you do with the frame.

Not really Josh there is much more than you think. Wood, metal, cheap places use plastic. You also have the different matte and borders too choose from and glass type, thickness ect. that all factor in to the overall price.

I know thats what I'm saying. The price isn't that bad because depending on what you do it can be a lot more.

Thanks guys! Long over due to get this bad boy secured to my wall.
It cost a little more but i would recommend the museum quality glass, the rest of my art will have it.

Also what type of mounting hardware do you use? I used a nail at a 45 degree angle with a wall hook. made sure I found a 2x4 to nail into as well.

Depends on what kind of attachment is on the back of the artwork.

I like frames that have those little plates attached to hang my artwork, the ones with the little teeth on them. Then put a plastic plug and a small screw into the wall.

But some of my higher-end animated artwork from Disney and Warner Bros have a frame with a piece of wire attached to both sides. For those types, I'll use the small L-shaped hooks that nail into the wall. If it's a heavy item like my large Marvin the Martian watercolor piece, I have 2 on it.

i have the wire with the hooks, makes it easy to adjust and level, plus a little more secure

I actually don't like the wire attachments. I feel like the print sometimes hangs too far 'out' from the wall. I much prefer the teeth style.

yes, the wire allows it to hang out and the print leans from the top, but where I have mine, I have no choice.....the flush mounting definitely looks better on a regular wall

I prefer this as well. The CW print will have the wire on the back of the frame which is the only bad thing about it.

Boo.

I'll just remove it then, especially on a print of that price.

I don't have this one yet.  I'll probably get it but it's towards the bottom of my wants list.

One of the things I don't like about the print is the Royal Guards, I just don't imagine them protecting Vader.  I've always thought they were more the Emperor's troops.  It also seems a little crowded too.  The AT-ATs look awesome though!
