INTRODUCTION
The world of Star Wars collectibles has seen no limit and the
Sideshow Premium Format line is a classic example. There is no doubt
one of the most amazing additions to this line would have to be the
Han Solo figure. The figure stands just less than nineteen inches
tall and really demonstrates a good likeness of Harrison Ford. The
only noticeable flaw that I could recognize might have been the nose
being just a little bit larger than I remember. Needless to say they
nailed everything else from hairstyle to the details in the holster
and belt.
One very interesting aspect of this figure is the suggestive pose
his hands are in. It just seems a bit strange, while the hands seem
a bit large, you can easily see they are indeed different from
others such as Luke Skywalker. So at least they aren’t skimping or
being cheap in that respect, as they shouldn’t with the heavy price
tag that accompanies each and every single one of these pieces. I
really like the detail that was put into the holster, as there is
even a tiny magnet to keep the strap in place. Yet another strange
thing might be the fact the blaster comes out of the holster, yet
the hands will not hold it. This makes me wonder why they would even
go to the trouble.
One thing to keep in mind is even though they call these “figures”
they are much more like statues, as I wouldn’t recommend trying to
put the old smoothie into any sort of different poses, what you see
is what you get. The piece showcased in this review is the standard
edition, which was limited to 2500 worldwide. The exclusive featured
the medal of Yavin, as once again the team at Sideshow made sure to
not include an item you really didn’t have to have. Either version
of this figure is equally impressive, as I don’t think a tiny medal
is really that much of a difference maker.
If you have the room in your collection as well as your wallet, I
think any fan of Han Solo would be proud to own either version. One
other minor thing I didn’t really care for was how tiny the support
is that plugs Han into the base. It just seems like the tiny metal
peg could break and just doesn’t seem large enough to support
something so large. However I don’t think they had moving any of
these things around after you get them open, fear of throwing away a
few hundred dollars might keep you from doing that. I’d just try to
remind someone opening one of these up to be very careful, as the
cargo is no doubt super fragile. As nice as the sculpt is, I’d like
to see maybe Han Hoth or maybe another version of Solo as many of us
know there is always room for improvement.
