INTRODUCTION
Sideshow Collectibles third attempt at young Anakin Skywalker comes this time from the new Clone Wars series. Unlike the Clone Wars Obi-Wan which came from our first trip through the Clone Wars. Another difference between the two is Sideshow blended the animated look of the character with the look of Hayden
Christenson himself.
As I said this version of Anakin from the new Clone Wars brings us a version of this Jedi as he gets his own padawan in hopes of balancing him out. Not to mention the first time we get to see Anakin with any kind of armor on. Allowing fans to have yet another chance to add an important version of the character Star Wars is really all about.
PACKAGING: 10.0
Anakin's box again follows the follows the same design path we’ve been seeing with these figures for quite sometime now. Sideshow continues to keep the collector in mind with the inner design of the packaging insuring that our figures are in great shape. You get the normal two display panels one for the extra items and one for Anakin himself along with his extra
item.
SCULPT: 10.0
As I stated this figures takes the design of the character from the cartoon and Hayden himself. Trevor Grove has done a superb job mixing the two together making it really quite seamless. The sculpting work done on the armor is quite well done also. It has a nice been worn in battle look which is something key for me with armored pieces. Finally you have the sculpting that goes with the extra item making a nice 1:6th version of the little baby hutt
Rotta.
PAINT: 9.8
There is paint involved with this figure of course but the skin tone on Anakin was done in a flesh tone plastic. Like with so many figures now from Sideshow and Hot Toys this looks beyond what normal paint can do. The rest of the paint work on the figure looks great! Unlike what happened with the first Anakin figure there is no issue with the lips, the hair looks good, and the eyes look life like with no doll
dot.
ARTICULATION: 9.2
We've all had the chance to get figures now on the new Pro body with varying amounts of success. Some have gotten figure after figure with no issues like myself and some with very loose joints. This figure comes on the new Pro 1.1 body which from all reports seems to have little to no issues for most collectors. As with the other pro bodies you have no issue getting many of the poses you will want to try out. That is the largest success of these new pro bodies is outside of the most extreme poses you can nail the ones you want right out of the
box.
ACCESSORIES: 7.5 for Regular 9
for Exclusive
Anakin like Clone Wars Obi-Wan is light on extras which for the price of the figure really is kind of an issue. If you do not buy the exclusive figure you get Anakin, the stand, some hands, and lit and unlit lightsabers. For me at nearly $90 there just isn’t quite enough meat on the bone. Now, the exclusive version is pretty darn cool. You get the same figure as the regular but you get Rotta the Hutt from the Clone Wars movie with Anakin. It really looks like a pretty cool piece and the paint job on it is exceptional and matches how nice Jabba came out.
I'd still like to see something else included at nearly $100 but this is a good deal.
OUTFIT: 9.9
Unlike Obi-Wan this figure doesn't have quite as much armor on the figure. Still an exceptional job with how it looks especially a battle worn look. It is also made in the same material of the other Sideshow armored figures so no rubbery mess like with Medicom. His Jedi outfit which makes up nearly the entire rest of the out fit is great! The material looks real world like and not a stretch of a toy trying to be real. Even the belt seems to have come out better than other Star Wars figures. Being good to go out of the box with few issues of it falling
apart.
VALUE: 8 for Regular 9 for Exclusive
Anakin sells for $90 which is the price of the regular edition. As I said if you got a few more items with it I would go higher in my score. The exclusive sells for $10 more and you do get the little hutt but I still would like to see a bit more for nearly $100. All that being said you
can't lose with just how nice this figure came out. Sideshow has shown just how great their figures can be with items like Anakin. He's a winner from sculpt, paint, to
outfit.
OVERALL: 9.2
Again, this figure shows Sideshow's Potential with how great the Star Wars humans can be. Is the figure perfect? No, it has issues as I've said with not quite enough items mostly. However, be it if you get the regular or the Exclusive you do win with just how superb this figure came out.
