INTRODUCTION
"The name's Rex. But you'll call me
'captain' or 'sir'..."
--Clone Captain Rex
"Grown on Camino from the DNA of Bounty Hunter Jango Fett, Clone Trooper Captain
CC-7567, nicknamed Rex, was activated during the Clone Wars, the
galaxy-spanning struggle between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Rex is a freethinking, cunning, and tough warrior, yet despite his unusual individualism as a clone, Rex followed orders without question.
Serving as Jedi General Anakin Skywalker's second, Rex commands Torrent Company of the acclaimed 501st Legion of the Grand Army of the Republic. Rex and his men were assigned to patrol the most lawless and dangerous sectors of the galaxy within the feared Outer Rim."
Captain Rex comes in two different versions, the regular and exclusive versions. The Exclusive version only differs by the stand that is white with special deco rather than the standard black. At least Sideshow was smart enough to keep them both the same price but if you are going to do this then why not just make one version and put the special base in all of them?
For me, bringing the animated style into the real world just does not work on many levels but I can say that Sideshow did a great job of bringing Rex in the realistic world for the most part. The Helmet looks great, as does the standard Clone armor that they use.
The head sculpt (portrait) of Captain Rex leaves a lot to be desired. This is where bringing the animated world into the real world does not work for me and where Sideshow
has failed on other clone characters. They head sculpt on Captain Rex does not have the look or feel of Captain Rex, instead the head sculpt resembles Vin Diesel instead of Temuera Morrison who played Jango Fett and all the Clones.
You get all of Rex's signature accessories from his two pistols, clone blasters and even a jetpack. That is good giving us some option to display this character.
Sideshow in my opinion then went a little to far on this piece. Not only by adding $35.00 to the
price tag but by adding a bunch of hands to Captain Rex to have. Some would say it is good to have all these different hands to put onto Rex so you can display him in many different poses. I can agree to that if you are going to play with it. But come on, do we really need all these extra hands? I do not see a bunch of adults playing with dolls that would require so many. Why not just use the standard
kung-fu grip hands that hold and work for everything to help keep costs down. I understand some people say these are highly collectible items but in reality they are dolls and the only hand I see Sideshow forgot to give the Star Wars is the big middle finger.
Overall a nice piece even though there are a lot of extra pieces that is not needed for such an item unless there are actually people out there who play with these.
