INTRODUCTION
"I was beginning to wonder if you'd got my message."
"I retransmitted it to Coruscant, just as you'd requested, Master. Then we decided to come and rescue you."
"Good job."
Obi-Wan Kenobi to Anakin Skywalker during Attack Of The Clones
Sideshow Collectibles has revisted
Obi-Wan Kenobi yet again this time from his time during Attack Of The Clones. This
Obi-Wan shown post San Diego Comic-Con following up on the success that is his Clone Wars version. All we need now is for Sideshow to complete the circle by releasing Phantom Menace version.
PACKAGING - 10
AotC Obi-Wan box again follows the 30th Anniversary design which has been the standard for a while now. I do hope that this year Sideshow will be allowed to change the outer design of the box, and let the Folks like Sideshow
HQ have some fun. Sideshow continues to keep the collector in mind with the inner design of the packaging insuring that our figures are in great shape. The inside of the box has just the single display panel but does have a nice background story on this phase of
Obi-Wan on the other.
SCULPT - 10
The sculpting for Obi-Wan again is a major winner but it should be since
it's the same sculpt as the Clone Wars Obi-Wan. Again, he has been done just amazingly. It also makes for a neat contrast between the two styles of the Clone Wars head and this in how the two casting methods affect the details of a sculpt. That being said its spot on in both accounts and looks quite nice.
PAINT - 10
This figure goes back to how the previous Star Wars figures where done in that
it's a sculpt that's painted instead of cast. Before I got mine I saw several photos of beards that did not come out quite the way they should. This was the first thing I looked for on mine. I thought the blending was fine with no harsh line or missing areas. His hair on his head has outstanding blending I think better than the ROTS version for sure. The skin tone looks great much like a healthy human being should look. The only issue
I'd like to see taken care of is the doll dot which when taking pictures is more of an issue than anything.
ARTICULATION - 8
Some people are not fans of the buck but
I've not had too many issues with it. I can get any pose for a Jedi I so choose, and the body looks great in the Jedi outfits. However, after having had several figures on their new bodies I do feel the buck has a slit bit behind these in allowing you even more fun with your toys.
ACCESSORIES - 7.5 (regular) 8.5 (exclusive)
Now, this figure you get all the great things you have gotten with past Jedi. As always you get the ignited and unignited Lightsabers which allow you to capture
Obi-Wan during this period of the characters existence. The exclusive is the Kamino Dart from Zam
Wessel's death scene in AOTC. My issue with this piece is that its so small and honestly have little impact on the how I feel about this piece. If I had not gotten the
exclusive, I would have been just fine with the regular figure.
OUTFIT - 10
As with any of the Jedi outfits this one is as good as I think anything from the line. The materials are just perfect for how they looked in the screen grabs on various web sites. Not to mention the color is spot on as well for his time during
Attack of the Clones.
VALUE - 8 (regular), 8.5 (exclusive)
Obi-Wan sold for $70 and that was the price for both the exclusive and regular editions. While that price for the exclusive is ok because you get all the Jedi stuff, and the little dart. The regular being the same price and not having the dart plus being $70 does take a bit off value wise.
OVERALL- 8.5
This is yet another outstanding figure in this line.
I'm very happy to have the exclusive version but when figures start getting to $70 need more
impact exclusives. The dart while cool just falls short of what's needed as an exclusive.
