INTRODUCTION
Palm Talkers are deformed representations of favorite Star Wars
characters.
When placed in the palm of your hand the character will light up and
say
phrases from the Star Wars movies. Palm Talkers were first
introduced to the
Star Wars collecting community in 2000 by TOMY Japan. Online
retailers and
local comic book shops that could order them for you made them
available to
the USA collector. The first short-lived series of Palm Talkers were
from
Star Wars Episode I:
Phantom Menace that included the Battle Droid, Darth
Maul, Jar-Jar Binks, R2-D2 and Yoda. These Palm Talkers were shipped
both
in Japanese and English talking forms to the USA.
In 2001 Hasbro released a second
series of Palm Talkers in the USA. This
wave included Boba Fett, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and the
Stormtrooper. The first release of the C-3PO Palm Talker had a
painting
mishap that turned the body green. It was later corrected in a
second
release with the correct gold paint application.
The Palm Talkers were not a big
seller and therefore were dropped from any
future development, which is sad because the Palm Talker line of
toys were
really a unique item that is now lost.
SUPER DEFORMED
Palm Talkers make a return at K-Mart as a 2005 Exclusive. Four
previous released Palm Talkers (C-3PO, Chewbacca, Darth Vader,
and R2-D2) have been reintroduced to the Star Wars collecting
community. This time instead of being called Palm Talker's they
are now called Super Deformed. These four Super Deformed toys
are the same as their previous release as Palm Talkers just now
in a new package.
FINAL THOUGHT
Lets hope that the
Star Wars Collector's out there will take a liking to these
Super Deformed and the line will continue with new characters.
