JOKER SQUAD -
ENTERTAINMENT EARTH EXCLUSIVE
The legacy of the Empire is here! In the
far-distant future of the Star Wars universe, the Empire is reborn, the Sith have returned, and
they're working together to conquer the galaxy! This specially packaged, limited edition set of six 3
3/4-inch action figures features 5 unique Stormtroopers and a Sith Lord to command them.
The Stormtroopers of the 407th division - Anson Trask, Sergeant Harkas, Jes Gistang, Hondo Karr, and Vax Potorr
- are sent to take down one of their own. The 908th division is going to defect to former Emperor
Fel's side against the current Sith regime. The 407th is ordered to stop the defection, and Sith Lord Maleval joins them to ensure they finish the job.
Trask's first mission as a Stormtrooper challenges his ideals as well as his courage - and has dire consequences for the rest of
"Joker Squad" as well. The story of Joker Squad was originally printed in Star Wars: Legacy #4 Comic Book, which has since been collected in the Star Wars Legacy Volume 2: Shards Graphic Novel (each sold separately).
Lord Maleval: The Quarren Sith Lord armed with a lightwhip. Loyal to Darth Krayt, this Quarren villain features a cloth robe, a whip, lightsaber, and loads of articulation.
Sergeant Harkas a.k.a. "Hardcase":
As his men call him, has uniquely decorated armor indicating his rank. This
tough-as-nails trooper leads his men against the opposition in the name of the Emperor!
Anson Trask: Fresh out of training, is the
"noob" of the group. Having just been assigned to his first mission, this soldier is ready to fight alongside his squad mates against a worthy
foe-- a group of defectors!
Jes Gistang: Handles the heavy weapons in Joker Squad, and
she's the first-ever female Stormtrooper in the Star Wars action figure line! With
slicked-back red hair and a weapon nearly as big as she is, this amazing figure is ready to rain down the pain on her enemies!
Hondo Karr: Rumored to be an ex-Mandalorian, is as proficient with his blade as he is with a blaster. Surprising for a Stormtrooper, this
anti-authoritarian loose cannon is a bit of a mystery. Can he be trusted with the future of the Empire?
Vax Portorr: Was born on Coruscant, and through a life of hardship, he eventually found his way into Joker Squad. Ready to jump
head-first into battle, he has his eye on the enemy and his blaster aimed right at their heads!
SUMMARY:
Overall this set of figures is fair at best. Sure we get two new figures one being in the Sith Lord Maleval, but his whip is nothing more and a piece of string stuck onto a lightsaber hilt in which the tip keeps falling off where the string is tied to. The sad thing about the whip is that the string is black and not blue, as we have been seeing images of these past few months and is still on the package back. Though if you look at the comic book his whip is black and not blue so Hasbro did correct it for the figure but not for the package image. The paintjob on his head is very mediocre, red tinted plastic with black paint highlights.
For this character I would say as a Sith Lord he is cool since we have not gotten anything like him before as for a figure, the same goes. Probably the only reason to get this set of figures is for this unique Sith Lord.
Now lets move onto the five unique Stormtroopers. Are they really unique? Four of them share the same body and one, the female is an all new sculpt in which I can see Hasbro using over again in the future.
Ok they are Stormtroopers and I get that, they would all have the same armor. The only differences between them are the head sculpts. I for one love the fact that you see different heads for each of these Stormtroopers and not the over done Jango clone head we have see on so many action figure now, so there is some variety. At least these are all specific characters and sway to making this a fair set.
I do not really care for Sergeant Harkas who has the yellow throwback of color on his armor of the Clone era. He head is too much like
Obi-Wan in my opinion. I am sure many who have not read the comics and do not know who this character is would mistake him as
Obi-Wan in armor. Thus this leads me to Hondo Karr who again looks much like another well know Star Wars character, that of our favorite farm boy Luke Skywalker. I must say for those who have not read the comics they would easily again might think that this guy is just Luke Skywalker in armor.
The other two males of the group Anson Trask and Vax Portorr I like. Their head sculpts do not look like any other
well-known character. For me they work very well for this set.
Last is Jes Gistang, the only female of the group. She has an all new sculpt since she is female. At least Hasbro took the effort in making her an
all-new figure in this set and not just putting her head on the standard Stormtrooper body. Her left hand is posed as if she is pointing at something that makes it hard for her to hold weapons, as she is the weapons specialist of the group.
One thing about the Stormtrooper figures is that their helmets do not fit very well which makes them look awkward a bit when standing around with their helmets on.
So overall is this set worth the $39.99 plus shipping that Entertainment Earth.com is charging? I would have to say yes for an exclusive. You are basically paying $6.66 per figure plus shipping, which is cheaper than paying for a standard figure in stores. Sure they are characters from the comics and not from the movies as most people would know. It may not fancy the basic collectors interest but for
hard-core Star Wars fans it is something different and as an exclusive I think this set is a fair purchase.
