INTRODUCTION
Tauntauns have a think layer of insulating fat and fur that help
them adapt to the sub-zero temperatures of the ice planet of Hoth.
Difficulties in adapting their repulsorlift speeders to the frozen
planet’s conditions resulted in the Rebel Alliance domestication the
tauntaun. This proved to be an excellent alternate transportation
for the Rebels during patrols. While on scouting duty outside Echo
Base, Luke Skywalker’s mission was abruptly halted die to a savage
attack by the Wampa, an ice creature of Hoth.
This highly detailed statue, based on the original Lucasfilm
stop-motion model, was sculpted and painted by Gentle Giant Studios.
This is one of my favorite creatures from the Star Wars Saga and I
can say that I feel Gentle Giant did a remarkable job on this piece.
Not only did they replicate the head from the stop motion model they
also sculpted a second alternate head of Luke Skywalker, so you get
a choice of how you want to display this piece. Everything from the
snow base, the fur on the Tauntuan, to Luke’s lightsaber and head is
fantastic. Overall one of Gentle Giants finest statues to date.
