INTRODUCTION

The video game Republic Commando was one of the most successful titles ever when it hit the XBOX system a few years back. Since then we've seen quite a few action figures of the famed Delta Squad, but the team at Gentle Giant upped the stakes by doing some thinking that was outside the box.

The full-color hand painted maquette was offered exclusively at StarWarsShop.com and was extremely limited at 500. It is quite a spectacular pose with Delta three-eight pointing out the next destination of destruction. It was also just as pleasant to see Fixer clearing the path in front of them like any good second in command would do! I also like the way Scorch appears to be looking for a way to flank the enemy and the ever scrappy Sev holding down things and covering their six!

What I don't really like the way the base appears to be shiny or as if they used too much lacquer or clear-coat. The Dewback and Sandtrooper was a much more realistic environment, it would have been nice to see them replicate that effort. There are mixed feelings about the name plate on the front as well, it seems like it might take a little bit away from the realistic appeal as well.

There were many visual details that were not possible in the bronze-colored version -- scars, scorch marks, muddied armor. Overall I think this would make a great addition to a collection and you really have to appreciate Gentle Giant straying far away from core characters to generate a unique yet highly wanted collectible. There was also a bronze edition that was produced as well and was limited to 400 pieces.
