IT'S ALL ABOUT THE COINS
The 30th anniversary collection kicks off with figure #1 Darth Vader and I really have to say I’m a little disappointed in the choice of sculpt that was included with the coin album. The fact is you’d think they would think a little bit more of the history of Star Wars, and what an amazing lifetime contribution to film the trilogy has been the past 30 years. If I was Hasbro shot-caller I would have gone with the Darth Vader from the Evolutions kit, I really think that was maybe the best Vader to date. To put the Revenge of the Sith version as cheap fill was just a bit disheartening for me as a collector.

The album on the other hand was an incredible idea. However before we get to that we have to start in on the coins that will be packed into the display album. The idea of doing coins was another great thought, and we can only hope Star Wars is not on its last legs as it was the first time they packed in coins back in 1985. The gold chase coins that are rumored to start slipping in this July will send some collectors into a tailspin. Let’s just hope it is a little easier to find these than the Ultimate Galactic Hunt.

However to have a use for the pack-in is what collectors really want. The coin make an attractive feature to the T.A.C. figures, and this enormous coin album shows them off perfectly. I also like the attention to detail, and the foresight of adding extra slots for those of us who are going deep on figures like the Clone Marine and Airborne Trooper. The extra twenty slots will come in handy indeed. The timeline, while for most of us was not needed, was another thoughtful gesture. Could they have included a better figure? There is not a doubt in my mind. A character as iconic as Darth Vader and something as huge as the 30th anniversary deserved better.
