INTRODUCTION
2010 marks the 30th Anniversary of STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. To commemorate the film's 30th Anniversary Hasbro decided to reflect back to the early days
(1970's - 1980's) and produce several modern era toys and put them in the
"Vintage" style packaging design. One of these toys which is not a repack of the current toy line of vehicles is the Imperial TIE Fighter. The other two vehicles in this
"Vintage" style packaging is the other Target exclusive of the current Luke
Skywalker's Snowspeeder and the Toys-R-Us AT-AT. I feel that it is ok to go back to the
"Vintage" style design but not to release two of these vehicles at the same time in the
"Vintage" and modern packaging. Hasbro should have picked one or the other, not both.
The TIE Fighter uses the new updated cockpit design that we have been seeing with the removable ejection seat. Instead of using the new and improved larger wings this TIE Fighter uses the older
"Vintage" style small wings to stay in the moment of the
"Vintage" style.
Overall I do not feel a lot of people would want to purchase this vehicle simply because it utilizes the smaller
"Vintage" style wings but I do feel it will be a hot seller just because it is in the
"Vintage" style package and it is an exclusive. For the most part many collectors are fickle and something as a box will make a
non-desired item the want of a Star Wars collection.
For me, I bought the Imperial TIE Fighter because of the fact that it is a
"NEW" toy that many collectors seem to be overlooking due to the box design. But I will agree that Hasbro did an excellent job on the packaging details but that should not be the selling point of a
toy.
