Eddie Munster or an Idol reject? Click thumbnail for large image
Spice: There is no doubt one of the roughest finds from Wave 3 would have to be the McQuarrie Chewbacca from the T.A.C. Signature Series.  As if they really thought there would be little interest in the line. Hasbro should really consider making the McQuarrie figures more available in case assortments. When I first got a good look at the figure, the only thing I could think was it's a good thing they kept going. With a strange cross between Eddie Munster and that American Idol reject, it's pretty easy to see George had to make many tweaks to the facial features first illustrated by Ralph McQuarrie.

The figure itself is downright frightening. Star Wars might not be the cult classic as much as a b-rated flop if the overhauls were not made. What is interesting is you can see nearly every feature present except the fangs and discolored eyes in the Chewbacca that made the final cut. The team at Hasbro did a really good job of showing us what could have been. I'm glad they decided to rely on less clothes for the movie, I think it makes Chewbacca seem more of an animal. The look we all got to know and love was much more simplistic vs. the fatigue-like outfit he's sporting in the signature series. I also couldn't be more thrilled they decided to lose the Shrek boots! I also like the fact they show you our favorite Wookiee didn't always sport his galaxy famous cross-bow, the blaster combination helps you think of what could have been.

I don't get a warm furry feeling with this guy! Click thumbnail for large image
I really enjoy all the options they loaded with this figure. The what-if potential is off the charts. You can pretty much pose him in any position, a trait all of the McQuarrie figures seem to share. I really can't pinpoint what I dislike the most, but it'd have to be the pointed ears or the fairy boots. It's good to see the finished product would be more like a dog or less beast like. Again you have to wonder how George and the rest of the crew knew exactly what to change. What would work and what would not. The bottom line here is collectors would more than likely want this vs. another Chewbacca figure, as we already have plenty to line our walls.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Spice - I really am enjoying the Signature Series. They bring a quality element to the 30th anniversary collection, a unique, never before seen approach that I think most collectors can really enjoy.

+   It's good to see the line explore new areas of intrest.
-   You'd guess they would foresee the interest in these and ship more initially!
+    A great way to honor Ralph McQuarrie, keep them coming!
+    American Idol could use the publicity!
