Spice: The offerings of wave 2 have been quite impressive. However one of the lesser efforts would have to be Biggs Darklighter. Much like Luke in Yavin Ceremony, the previous offering from the Power of the Force line in 1997 was more than a tad off in scale. As a key assist man in the battle of the Death Star, it was more than overdue for Hasbro to generate a new facial sculpt and slap it on the body of Dutch Vander from the Saga line. I guess this is acceptable, but I would have to think Biggs might have been in between Vander and Luke as far as bulk is concerned. However this is a big time improvement from the previous figure.

I really do like the incredible job they did on the facial features. I think Garrick Hagon himself would be most pleased with the latest sculpt. I think they really nailed this one down, more so than Dutch Vander or even the more recent offering of Zev Senesca. If you line up the newer Rebel Pilots vs. some of the older figures, there is simply no comparison. I can't say I care too much about the degree of difficulty you can encounter taking off the helmet, and I really can't stand the rolling elbows.  These shortcomings aren't  enough to make me think the figure isn't worthy of production.

They keep with these new figures they'll go bankrupt for sure! Click thumbnail for large image
It is really cool to see them generate a couple of decent versions of Biggs, but we'll have to wait a few more weeks before the Academy version that is set to hit the street. Another nice thing was they kept the accessories appropriate with merely packing him with a blaster pistol. I still can't figure out why they would pack him with a rifle ten years ago! Another great thing I could appreciate about this torso is the hose easily slides off the leg if you were to jam him into an older X-Wing. I was also very impressed with the intricate details in the paintjob, especially on the chestbox.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Spice - Would we have benefited further if they created an entire new design and sculpt overall? I'd have to say not really and this is perhaps a very acceptable example of appropriate rehashing. A big time improvement vs. the old.

+   A great improvement, a great choice for the 30th theme.
-   Spend a little money and switch up the arms.
+    I love the removable helmet feature on this one, really adds to the character.
+    This is much better than the Power of the Force mold.
