"Dad Taun weee's Heee-aaaghhh" - Finally, a cool Classic Trilogy Boba Fett again, not the whiny kid from Episode II

Can you hear him?

Spice: This is a different look for Boba Fett, one we have not seen before. So before I go mad over yet another resculpt, let’s take a look at what this one has to offer. Hasbro hasn’t offered Boba Fett for quite some time, figure 300 back in the Power of the Jedi series. I never thought they could outdo that figure, to date, the best version ever created for Boba Fett. This one is very good though. The first feature that got my attention was the 'quick draw' action on the rocket pack. Please excuse me for comparing it to the 300th but I almost feel I have to. You can almost feel Boba drawing his sawed-off blaster ala when Boushh pulled the detonator in Jedi. The likeness is truly amazing, the Maladorian Armor is remarkably detailed; my only complaint being the wookiee scalps could have been done a little better.

J - I never, after several months of disasters like Saga Qui-Gon, thought that in early 2003 I'd be talking about a figure that is near-perfect. In fact, this one would have been perfect if Hasbro had stuck to the prototype design as seen on the card back photography. I dig every detail and joint on this one except the same confused 'quick-draw' button that doesn't even try to resemble the real missile in his backpack. If Hasbro didn't want you pricking your finger, they could have at least made an interchangeable deal there like they did on the 300th Fett, see now I wasn't going to go making comparisons either, but the then-lame press and fire missile plug and play from the 300th would have made my day on this version.

Wow, not a POTJ 300th Figure box that you had to pay ten bucks for Click thumbnail for large image
Spice - Also the paint job has a flaw, if this character was in the 'Pit of Carkoon,' wouldn’t it be a little dirtier? The rocket is not correct, very true J. Along with the legs appear to be the same ones used in the 300th version but retooled here, not the big 'H', reusing parts! They did add in the nice articulation in the feet, thus making the flight appear more realistic. They did remember to add in the battle damage to the helmet though. What they also threw in was the movable site that Boba uses to scope down his prey, a feature I really enjoyed on the 300th. Where they dropped the ball was the cape, again real cloth is way cooler than this crappy plastic smock that falls out every chance it gets.

J - I am a big fan of the 'Return of the Jedi' Boba color scheme, so it's nice to get a well-done Boba from this sequence to go along with the 300th from the 'Empire Strikes Back' appearance. I actually wish I had gotten two of these, because I really want another one, one too hover over to the Skiff, and, like you said Spice, to draw on Boushh and tickle Rystall's cheek in a classic pimpin' move in Jabba's Palace there. You want cherry candy - wow look at this stand. I really thought it was going to suck big time but it's GREAT! It's functional and looks pretty sweet. There is even a beveled back so you can have him in a pivot flight pose to mix things up a little, it gets tricky to balance it but it looks cool when you have it arranged right.

Spice - Most definitely J, the stand kicks all forms of A$%. I really thought it would stink it up but upon removal from the package, is a very pleasant surprise. I can hear Beavis screaming FIRE, FIRE, FIRE! You can’t remove the rocket pack but at least they did this with it to compensate. Plugs in quite nicely to the rocket pack and really doesn’t require that much maneuvering to make it work. I guess the biggest complaint I have is the lack of articulation in the arms and legs. This thing has limited pose ability, but really guys it’s Boba Fett, and not the snot nosed punk in AOTC so how could a true fan of Star Wars not like it? I better watch my mouth or we’ll get one every series for the next three years.

J - I recall a care free lad with cheek of tan, back on September 10, 1997, buying his first Star Wars figure from the new 1990's series, he was happy with his POTF Boba Fett. Well, that lad was Sandtrooper Jason and now, almost six years later, I am happy again. Why have "Dad, Taun We's hee-ugh," when you can have "He's no good to me dead." Now I have to hit you all with a Dateline follow-up here, I was pleased with something minor, and that was the neck and collar proportions - they got it right here with this one. The plastic cape doesn't bother me, but I still think this could have been a great soft goods wave like I was ranting on about in the Tusken and Padme reviews. Again, too, with the ROJ version, we get something new: the street legal sawed-off blaster. All you Skiff freaks out there can now recreate the Sarlacc Pit moments like when Luke cuts it in half or later when a blind dude with a stick pushes him into the Pit.

Spice - Yes, again right on the money J. I recall purchasing my first Red Carded Boba Fett too. I was really cool to see them make it again. I didn’t care if it had full, half or quarter circles on his hands. All that mattered was it was him! In fact since I had Jeremy Bulloch sign mine like the rest of the Star Wars collecting community who are convention junkies like me! I love the weapon on Boba Fett too. It makes us wonder, will we get to see in Episode III how he decided to choose this weapon rather than daddy’s Quick Draw McGraw attack? We all saw where that landed him! The soft goods do not appear to be a factor in this figure, and while the blast effect can be a struggle for ‘younglings’ like mine, it is a great add in.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Spice - Overall I give it a huge thumbs up. To the heavens with ya Boba!

Jason - This is one of those Hasbro 'salvaging their image by making a quality product' moments. If all the figures were as well done as this one, I wouldn't have anything to complain about. I wish I had Arsenio Hall here, because right after I give my thumbs up, I am going to HIT YOU WITH THE DIGITS AMERICA!
