'02|#01 - ANAKIN SKYWALKER™ - Outland Peasant Disguise
Includes:
• Removable Poncho
• Blaster
• Storage Container

No photo - The General wouldn't even buy it!

S: It is hard to believe this is the #1 figure that Hasbro presents us with for AOTC. I remember getting my first Luke 12 back on Easter decades ago. The two are much the same. Right down to the telescoping saber, and I have to ask WHY!? All the other figures have the saber with removable handle. They can't even attempt to make the first figure in the "comeback" film for Star Wars the slightest bit cool?

J: This one 'ain't quite right!' The head sculpt isn't bad but I keep thinking that I'm watching a rerun of "The Poke of Zorro," or "Three Musketeers." I think the only redeeming thing about this guy is the quality of the peasant overcoat and that's downright sad for a new Star Wars figure, even then I want to call this guy "Patches." Why invoke the Classic Old School elements when they don't make sense?

S: I totally agree with you, and what in the blue heck is in this little box, and when did Ani pull a blaster? I can see what they were trying to do here but I think they can do better than that with all the money collectors are giving them daily!

J: All I can hope is that it's a change of clothes in there!! And why give him another weapon in the gun when they gave him the lightsaber that he didn't use either, the best you can hope for is to retract the damn thing and pretend it's a flashlight - it's as thick as a heavy duty one.

S: Like I said this thing is so sorry it should have a tip that breaks right away! It is a peasant and it is poor to match, I would have it #25 and make Taun We #1, at least she sounded fly and that figure on that alien! Nevermind. If you lucked out and got the insert version you may want to move the insert up front to cover this sorry excuse for a number one figure! I can't believe they can't make a decent figure of Anakin!

J: You said it! All I can do with this figure is stick it in the "maybe" pile as a novelty item. How can Hasbro feed us a a version of Anakin and make us have to think "Hmm, well hopefully they'll do resculpt in a few years so I can have a good version of this guy?"

S: Poor Hayden Christansen all his figures suck! The Hangar Duel Anakin, this and the Deluxe version too, that one isn't up to par either.

J: Gahh, take off the peasant cloak and he looks like he's going to teach you the Tango, what with that commerbund, double breasted blousse and ascot wrapped around his neck, he's looking more like an effeminate dance instructor!

S: J we need to send this to the Scale of Truth...

J: It's a good thing Justice is blind so it doesn't have to look when this thing tips the scales as a loser - thumbs down and it's almost on the floor if you'll catch my meaning.

S: Oh without a doubt this is a thumb burner.

J: He apolgized on Canada's behalf for producing Celine Dion, well now it's his turn to do the same for this figure. Sorry Hayden, better luck next time buddy!

S: Right on.

+ they do get better after this one
+ as a standalone accessory, the box is pretty cool (laughter)
+ you have a figure to face off against Kevin Costner in a Three Musketeers remake
+ the attempt at being "Old School" is kind of heartwarming
- even though the figure was done poorly
- this one would fit in better with red-carded POTF2
- not a good way to begin a new line

'02|#02 - PADME AMIDALA- Arena Escape
Includes:
• Blaster
• Arena Column
• Metal Chain

J: Now, I know that this Padme figure has taken about as much heat as the much-maligned 'monkey-face' Leia, but I actually like this one, and aside from the 'achievable' chest, it actually has everything in the right places.

S: Well said J, there is just something about a girl chained up to a pole! Whether or not you found the one with the mole, Padme is a keeper. Look out I'm roadblockin'!!*
(* 80's G.I. Joe reference - "Roadblock" was the rhyming fool with a huge machine gun!)

J: Out of the first several figures here, this one ironically is one of the very best and coolest. The big battle droid gun, the rips on the back of her shirt and missing sleeve - everything is there. And if you bought two or three just to get the mole and the insert, you can use the extra columns to chain up Obi-Wan and Anakin.

S: Even though they come with the playset...

J: Look, alright so they come with the playset already.

S: The figure is visually impressive and I wish I could say the same about the battle feature. Is it me or do they all seem to work improperly?

J: The action works okay, but that cold-riveted shoulder really takes away from the Padme. All the smooth joints and connections are overlooked because that sharp-cornered shoulder draws your eyes in.

S: I am glad that the first figure of the Senator was the A$% kicking version, I would have thrown up if they came with the roll down the hill in love like a 80's Burger King commercial now that my friend woulda wrecked it! With a vinyl cape...

J: Yeah, the spinning around with Malcolm in the Middle while "Happy Together" plays for hours would have had me ragin'!! I have to admit that this is basically a one-pose wonder, you can move the left arm either up or down and have the head over either shoulder, but don't face her head forward because it looks ridiculous!

S: I really don't like one pose wonders which you see a lot of now , but this one is decent. Anakin should be #2 in every sense of what that means, a great follow up to a bad start.

J: Really! They could have at least made Hangar Anakin be the first figure, that would have set better with me. Padme's one of the good ones though, no matter how pathetic Number 1 was.

S: At least I can agree with you on that one, good weapon good figure decent battle feature... A figure that was decent, a first for this set, more to come?

(*with mole)

+ it is all there with this one, the accessories and deco "make sense"
+ you get a pole and real metal chain as packi-ins, beats a gun and a box!
- some poor kid poked both his eyes out looking at this figure
- I really don't like the one pose feature
