Happy NEW YEAR!
Happy New Year from me, George Collazo, and all the Troopers around Puerto Rico! May the New Year 2003 bring us all the most important thing we need: good health! With this available the rest will come with hard work. Let's not forget about the almighty, without faith in him there's nothing. Best wishes from the Puertorican garrison in our 100 x 35 miles island to the rest of the world!

Sandtrooper Rodapel reports:
"Made my rounds around the Southern California Inland Empire recently and was truly in need of a magnifying glass to examine the inventory in the Star Wars aisles (or should I say the small part of one section of a small part of the aisle containing Star Wars). Stores were literally dessimated of all things Star Wars. A guy would literally have had difficulty even locating any of the most basic pegwarmers with any success.

"Truly a sad sight indeed. The pain and agony was not just exclusive to one store, but hordes of stores regardless of chain (KB, Walmart, Kmart-what is new, Target, etc.). On a more inquisitive note I was wondering if any troopers could be of assistance in helping providing information or in helping me locate the new vinyl 10" Darth Vader Character Collectible. Why is this piece so hard to find? Are others seeing it in their travels? Thanks kindly, indeed, and as usual sandtroopers.com kicks gluteus maximus!"

Rodapel@aol.com

Rod, I have heard the vinyl Vader is only one per case at the current time. Scalps automatically buy it up if it's only one per case! The Slime! - Spice

Sandtrooper Jeffred5 reports:
"Hey Troopers, I have a post Christmas store report for the Detroit Metro, and Lansing, MI area. I been to a few TRUs and they all have plenty of Destroyer Droids and Clone Pilots and most of the figures that came out around the same time as the Padme and Jango Pilots. I have also found a few Ephant Mons, and "New" Yodas in TRUs and Targets and several Accessory Sets.

"My big find though was a Deluxe Clone Trooper w/Speeder Bike at the Target at Coolidge & Maple (15 Mile) in Birmingham, but I think it was just a fluke, because it was the only one and it had a few small pieces of Scotch tape on it, so I think it may have been a returned gift. But, I does look like MI is finally getting some of the good stuff after a 4 month dry spell. Good luck, and Happy Hunting.

"P.S. - I only have one Wal-Mart within 30 miles of me and they never have anything, so if anyone can pick up the Electronic Jango and Obi-Wan that Wal-Mart has on sale for $20 each I would really appreciate it, and if anyone can get an extra Holiday C-3PO & R2-D2 Set it would really help me out too."

Area report for Puerto Rico:
Not new actually but its first appearance in the island, Senator Palpatine has showed up in several Big K's in Puerto Rico. Action Fleets are almost everywhere but it is a big shame they aren't coming with figures. KB's 4-packs ($7.99 for four figures was a good deal) helped a lot of collectors fill in their gaps with Bespin Luke and Vader despite it being a merchant strategy. A lot of parents reported in stores that they were also satisfied with these packs. They helped them to aquire Yoda for their kids along with others for a very affordable price; For plastic lovers (like me) Austin Powers Goldmember figures are out but this time Mc Farlane didn't have the license and the new wave for Austin fans leave a lot to be desired. What happened to MF this time? That's all for now troops!

Sandtroopette Donna reports:
"Hi Troops, Donna from So. Cal. here. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Didn't do much hunting this past week to avoid all the Christmas shoppers. The few times I did venture out, I saw a few items. Target still has their exclusive Action Fleet Sets and Accessory Sets. TRU has Destroyer Droids, Clone Pilots, and some of the new Lego sets. K-mart has nothing new. Wal-mart only had some of the new Lego sets. I have yet to see the Holiday set or Trash Compactor sets at Wal-mart.

"I would like to THANK Patrick from Toronto for making my first trade with a Canadian trooper a pleasant one. Happy Hunting and Happy New Year to all."

    Best Post-Christmas Deals on Gunships
    Sandtrooper Tim in Memphis reports:
FYI: "Walmart.com has the Republic Gunship for $22.00, but even better is KBkids.com has it for $19.99. Walmart also has the electronic Jango Fett and Obi-Wan figures for $20 and the Arena Playset for $30 which isn't much of a sale. And they have the Slave 1 for $17."

"Happy Holidays Troops, Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I know I did:) There is one figure out there that I now need to get. It is the elusive Deluxe Clone Trooper W/Speeder Bike. I need to get it because there is this big open space in my New Republic Gunship, He He He (What a nice piece of work) that needs to be filled. So any Trooper out there that has these in quantity in their area I would sure appreciate it if you could pick me up one or two. Hope you all have a safe and Prosperous new year, I know we will all need the prosperous part with all the new cool stuff coming out next year. He He He He!!!!"
    TWoods@associatedbond.com

Good luck, Tim. I'm sure a fellow Trooper will hear the call. It's ironic that our earlier installment of "Beyond Belief" is becoming true, with more and more Troops still not finding this figure. Sometimes truth is indeed stranger than fiction. Another Vintage Line Goes Retro-Modern:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back, with the new figures just starting to show up in stores like Wal-Mart. The new line has been highly anticipated and captures the characters from their mid-eighties comic representations while keeping the cool playability of the now "Vintage" TMNT figures that came out in 1988. Much like Star Wars figures today, TMNT now has a new modern line that will make fans want both new and old Turtle favorites for their collections.

"I finally found the Speeder bike and clone trooper at Target this morning. Here is what happened with the clone trooper. I went to my local TRU which opens at 8:00am for the holliday season. I saw a good amount of the new Yoda and the Destroyer droid. So, I decided to check out Target and amazingly enough after months of not find the deluxe Trooper there it was. It looks like they put out one case. So, there you have it. I found vintage ROTJ Luke Bespin on ebay. It was just an accidental find, talk about perfect timing. I also got the figures that I won here on 12/10. They came in great shape. Thanks a lot.I think you heard about the financial trouble the FAO is going though. I hope the shuttle still will come out. The KB Express at the Greenwood Mall in Indy had some of the 4 pack figs on sale for $7.99. I didn't pick any up because the packaging isn't anything really special, but they did have quite a few left. Also, the Indy TRU on US 31 had no new figs but had some legos that I hadn't seen before. Hey Troops, I stopped by the mall here in Lafayette, IN for some last minute shopping and what did I find? The newest two figures at KB. Yoda Jedi High Council and Destroyer Droid Geonosis Battle were both in stock. They had plenty of each, so if you get there early enough tomorrow morning, they should still have them. Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction - Episode 1.12 "The Impossible Fork"
    (or, "Seasons' Beatings"):

Is truth really stranger than fiction? And are you certain that you can actually discern between the two? General J is your host as you step forward into a world of happenings so bizarre they couldn't possibly be real ... could they?

"Within this hour we will tell you five stories, some real, some fake, you decide. Your call."

    This is the Impossible Fork:

The impossible fork has three prongs but not enough contour lines to account for all of them, to gaze upon it is to go mad. Has hasbro given us a fork of their own? That's what this next story is about...

Trooper David is caught in the trappings of another Hasbro paradox:

"Has anyone else noticed that "Holiday" is spelled wrong on the R2-D2 and C-3P0 two-pack? or did I just get the Hasbro guy who couldn't spell?"

    Which illusion is more confusing?

So, which messed up your mind more? - The three-tined fork or the Holiday Edition frontispiece? Which one is an illusion, and which one is fact? Is this story on the level or did we just get the Hasbro guy who couldn't spell?

Click here for the answer to tonight's episode. So, how did you do? If you got this one corect then you saw right through Hasbro's illusion. For Beyond Belief, I'm General J.

    Sandtrooper Thundercracker reports:
"Hi Troops, first-time Trooper Thundercracker here reporting from Whitehall/Bethlehem PA. Whitehall TRU had two new yodas, and at least twelve each of Clone Trooper Pilot and new projectile-firing Destroyer droids. The older stock too was there: 12-inch Luke and Tauntaun, Wave 2 Unleashed (Vader, Padme and Anakin), and interactive R2.

"They also had the newest MOTU (I saw a shopping mother pick up the last Teela, it is refreshing to think that a kid may be getting something he or she has been wanting instead of the local scalp crew), and Simpsons assortments. And that is how I found out about this site, General Jayson was there picking up a Simpson New Years Eve set and told me to stop by. MTFBWY!"

    xzd5bp@prodigy.net

Trooper Thundercracker is a great fellow and it is cool to see fellow collectors out there in person. A note about TRU - the Whitehall store's service can't be beat - they held an item for me before they all vanished today.

    Sanstrooper Dom reports:
"Hi Troops, Long time, no post, but that's because I haven't had anything to post until now. I just want to report in on the Mace Windu Electronic Light Saber I ordered from Amazon.com. First of all: a purple bladed saber - what could possibly be cooler than that? Well, it would have been cooler if it had the golden touches that, in my opinion, is the Mace-man's signature (at least when the blade is in the off position). If you're an opener like me, you'll appreciate the feel of this laser sword. It really is well-balanced. All in all a good blade, but I wish it had the gold trim."

I just returned from TRU near Lakeline Mall where I scored the new Mace Windu Lightsaber, along with an extra Clean Rebel Soldier. The Targets throughout the area seem to be getting slammed with accessory sets, but I have yet to find the holiday set at retail.

"I am looking to trade tons of extras that are just piling up in my house. Here are a few that I have up for trade: 12" Zuckuss, 12" Yellow trooper, Clean rebel soldier, Silver R2, Newest He-man Waves and tons more. Check out my post at the Jawa/Sandtrooper trade forums

    Sandtrooper Larry reports:
"Hello troops! Sorry its been so long, but work and school have consumed most of my time. Quick note, thanks to General J, for an awesome transaction earlier this month. J, you da man. Alright, now for the report. Mentor, OH area Wal-mart has newer pilot peg warmers. No Ephants, or Clone pilots. Newer 12" Bounty Hunter wave was there. The holiday 2 pack has come and gone, along with the cinema scenes. KB has the four packs, and the pilot wave. No Ephants or Clone Pilots. K-mart is disgraceful for Star Wars toys as usual. They restocked all the original peg warmers, with nothing past the Dexter wave. Although a $2.99 sale through the first is good for the army builders. Strongsville Wal-mart is pretty much the same as Mentor. Although nothing past the Vader wave. That's it for this post. May you all have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year."

Thanks for the kind words Larry.

    Sandcrawler Cancellation:
Hey Troops, I saw the report from TPU concerning the cancellation of the Sandcrawler. I wrote a contact of mine at Hasbro and asked whether was it indeed canceled. Her reply was: "The only 2003 products we've unveiled are currently up on our website. We haven't confirmed or denied any additional products." So there you have it. If it is not in the Cargo Bay, then it was never scheduled for release. This also does not mean they are not going to produce it. I am sure they will. I guess they are too busy getting all of the Eeth Koth and Teebo's ready to ship out. It was a shame to see of the seven new figures featured at Galactic Hunter, only one was truly new, from a deleted scene to top it all off. What a way to bring in the New Year! I am sure we will enjoy the new releases in the Sandwatch Reviews! Be on the lookout for upcoming installments: Ephant Mon, Endor Beardless, Destroyer Droid, Yoda (High Council) and the Black Market Clones.

Darth Crypt making his inspection of the shopping sitcheeation, found that there were tons of Clonetrooper Pilots, Destroyer Droids, Lott Dods and Jango Kamino Escapes at the Waldorf MD TRU. They had one frikked up Yoda w/ Jedi Council chair. A few 12-inch Luke and Tauntaun.

The Target in Bowie today had Geonosian Warrior w/pod sets, and plenty of Clone Troopers W/ Speederbikes. They had the Geonosian Arena battle playset and Interactive R2's.

Babyluv reports a TON of the holiday 4 pack of figures at the St. Charles Town Center KB in Waldorf MD. The price? 4 figures for $7.99!!! The best deal going this holiday season.

    FAO to file for Bankruptcy?
Check out this article Troops. I hope that Hasbro isn't one of the two suppliers mentioned. And if so, I hope they have shipped those shuttles out to them already!

There shouldn't be any need to worry Tyler. Although FAO is having financial problems and a bankruptcy filing is a strong possibility, such actions would take months, thus putting any potential Shuttle roadblocks far off in the future beyond next month's release date - Jason.

"Hiya Troopers, I stopped by the local KB today to see if there was anything new about and came across the the 4 packs I have been hearing about. The $19.99 price hade been lined out, and $9.99 written in. Thats like getting 4 figures for ten bucks, not a bad deal in my book. I too found one of the packs with the beardless Endor Rebel Trooper. Alot of them had Zams and white lever Hans in them. I think now would be a good time to check out a KB close to you and get the Christmas present you really want. Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction - Episode 1.11 "Hassles Made of Sand"

Is truth really stranger than fiction? And are you certain that you can actually discern between the two? General J is your host as you step forward into a world of happenings so bizarre they couldn't possibly be real ... could they?

"Within this hour we will tell you five stories, some real, some fake, you decide. Your call."

Lagging sales and a sputtering economy wore heavy on the minds of Hasbro Marketing's upper echelons. The normally bloated, top heavy department was in an uncharacteristic flurry of activity, with even the Executive Committee itself springing into action. A small cadre of product positioning specialists hovered around a cluster of desks, worked up into a frenzy by their orders to scale back the highly lucrative Star Wars line.

Gary was a relatively new hire within the deptartment, and, although he was still trying to get used to the Hasbro paradigm and clicking into the day-to-day routine, he was learning fast, absorbing all the new procedures and impressing his superiors with a savvy for making the right decisions and doing what made sense in a hectic industry controlled by fickle consumers. He had been noticed. The Executive Committee was already familiar with some of his accomplishments, and they were expecting great things from him.

That's how he happened to get his new top-priority assignment. The same top brass that had been rallied into action over the latest crisis saw it appropriate to pass the buck to Gary. After all, he was one of their best and brightest; he could certainly handle the paramount yet simple task of eliminating one high price point product from the Star Wars 2003 portfolio. And if he made the wrong choice, at least they had someone to blame.

Crunching prototype budgets, looking at past sales records, and examining potential supplier costs did nothing to help Gary arrive at a decision he could feel comfortable with, he had been at it for hours. He felt as if this was becoming a humungous hassle. Pushed past the point of exhaustion, teetering on the brink of apathy and resignation, he grabbed his spreadsheet of 2003 products, closed his eyes, and thrust his pen down blindly, the pen mark had been made within the row of data for the Jawa Sandcrawler playset ...

So, what is the fate of the Sandcrawler? Did a Hasbro employee leave this decision to chance, or are we just kicking sand in your face?

Click here for the answer to tonight's episode. So, how did you do? If you got this one corect then your mind is a marketable commodity. For Beyond Belief, I'm General J.

    Area Report:
Hey Troops, Spiceowan here with an Area Report for N. Illinois & S. Wisconsin. It was the jackpot if you went to either Gurnee, Il or Racine, WI TRU today. They had many of the new Destroyer Droid and Yoda High Jedi Council. Along with the rest of the old stock it was a pleasant surprise to see such an abundance of new figrures in stock. Gurnee I hit in the afternoon when shopping was at peak hours. I got with Trooper Mat Tambor of the Racine, WI Techno Union and together we hung up all of the Destroyer Droids, Yoda, Clone Pilots and Beardless Endor Soldiers that were thrown into the good old drop bin. Way to go. There is a reason those clerks make the little wages they do.

I have also been searching for the Trash Compactor Cinema Scenes but that seems to be the only product eluding me. That's it for now Troopers, Kick A$% and take names. Merry Christmas!

    Sandtrooper Lee reports:
Hiya Troopers, We made our bimonthly commissary run today and found the new Topps widevision EPII cards at the exchange for $1.90 a pack, pretty good looking cards. Headed over to the Biloxi, MI TRU to find Jango pilots, Destroyer Droid, Yoda's w/council chair, and the Clone Trooper pilots in a vast amount. There were a few peg-warmers, but mostly the figs I listed. I was tempted to pick up all the new stuff, but Santa told me he'd kick my butt if I got anything else before Christmas! Hope everyone is finding the stuff they want. That's it for this transmission. Take care and be safe.

    Lafayette, IN area report:
Hey Troops, I was at Toys R Us and KB today. Toys R Us had the newest Unleashed figures, Mace and Dooku. I personally wasn't impressed with the likeness of either of these, but I thought I would let any area collectors know they were there. KB had the deluxe Yoda and C-3PO. I know that these have been hard to find in the past, but now they had a lot of them in-stock. KB also had the Playskool sets for anyone looking: Endor, X-Wing and Naboo Fighter.

It never hurts to sign a petition, so check out JediDaxters's latest! On the other hand, I think the bootleg Clones do their job WELL! And, you can read all about why in our upcoming SANDWATCH review of the five marching and five firing Clone bootlegs later this week!

    Ephant Mon available:
Troops, I have one Ephant Mon. The card is in great shape, but the bubble is a bit wrinkled on one side. These are HARD TO GET in "minty mint" condition due to the size and heaviness of the figure. This one is probably best for an opener, but would still be ok for display. The cost is $7 (includes the tax I paid). Shipping will be determined depending on your location.

If I don't respond to your e-mail by tomorrow night, this one is gone!

The magazines are Inquest Gamer, and Scrye, I am just looking for Inquest Gamer Issue #86 June 2002 pg. 50, issue #90 Oct. 2002 pg. 46, and Scrye issue #54 Oct. 2002 Pg 62 & 68, and issue #56 Jan/Feb 2003 Pg 34.

"They are all about Star Wars Card Games and if anyone has any other good articles about Star Wars TCGs and CCGs I'd love to have a copy or if anyone know where I could find copies of Star Wars Game articles it would be a big help. Trooper Steve with an urgent message:
Hi Troops, I have written all of you to issue a warning I just recieved an e-mail from someone claiming to be from E-Bay's fraud department. It claimed someone has been misusing my account and being fraudulent. It asked me to verify my ebay account and provided a link.

"Now comes the scary part. I was asked to give my name, address, phone number and credit card number. It also asked for the 3 digit pin on the back of a credit card allowing unlimited access to my bank account. They also wanted bank account information and the name of my bank. This all came on a very "official" E-Bay looking page. Do not respond to this. First, the page was unsecured. Second, It clearly states in E-Bay policy that they never ask for any such information in a e-mail. All the information requested is all someone needs to steal your identity and destroy your credit. Be Warned!"

They are on clearence at the Wal-Marts here in Canada. Here's one question I have for them, why are they on clearence when they haven't been avaiable here before? Who knows and who cares?
