Sandtrooper Jedichirp reports:
"I stopped at the Greenwood (Indianapolis, IN) area) Wal-mart this morning and was surprised to find a few SW figs that I needed. I picked up the Deluxe Clone w/Speeder and the Deluxe Genosian Warrior. They had about 4 of each left on the pegs after I purchased mine. They also had the new Tyranus and Obi-Wan. They had about 3 or 4 of each of them but every bubble was smashed so I didn't purchase these figs. But if you are an opener, then get over there and buy them. Good Luck."

"To all Troopers, Collecting has now taken a backseat in my life and I am only going to keep my 3-3/4" figures. Everything else in my collection is up for grabs - vehicles, 12-inch, beast assortments, exclusives, palm talkers, etc. I also have Spawn, G.I. Joes and Masters of the Universe. I wanted to give all the good readers and contributers of Sandtroopers first crack before I put everything on ebay. You can check out my feedback on ebay under the user name sego6. Please e-mail me for a list of items I have up for sale or if you have a specific item you are looking for then let me know. Any help from any of you would be appreciated. I will work with anybody on the prices, I will try to go as close to retail as I can. All of it's available and with negotiable prices. I can also send pictures. Thanks."

Padme Droid Factory Escapee
Repacked Teebo
Repacked Eeth Koth
Reopacked but NEW Head Imperial Officer

"I was at the Bloomington, IL Wal-Mart and found a nice stash of figs. They had Obi-Wan (Acklay Battle), Darth Tyranus, Destroyer Droid, new Yoda, Force-Flipping Anakin, Flying Geonosion, and Deluxe Clone Trooper. They also had a few Clone Pilots too, other than that they had the same old lot of deluxe figs and peg warmers. Lots of Cantinas still, also still had the same six TIE Bombers that were there the day before, there were plenty of all the figs too."

Sandtrooper Jedi Cor reports:
"Wal-Mart (Springville, NY) has 4 beardless Rebels, 5 yellow Clone Pilots, 4 Destroyer Droids, lots of Anakin and Jango Pilots, other older action figures, older Action Fleets, and the new different color lightsabers. Walmart (Hornell, NY) have the older action figures, Slave I and Jedi Fighter on sale, and one Leia and Chewie Trash Compactor set, which I bought then. Walmart (Corning, NY) have junk for sale other than the older action figures and the 5 New TIE Bombers. I saw the Shredder figure in one of the stores. One store had the 4 Turtles, Splinter, Shredder, Foot Soldiers, Motorcycle, and Truck.

"Wal-Marts in my area think they are the very best stores around, but they suck in helping Star Wars fans get their collection done. I have better luck at Kmart, KB Toys, and TRU with keeping my collection updated. I wrote an email to Wal-Mart and asked why they aren't keeping up with the other stores with the new wave of Star Wars collections. Also, my FAO Shuttle is delayed again. I am almost tempted to start buying on ebay or somewhere else. I missed out on the free mini Legos on Starwars.com. Enough steam for now. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ALL"

Sandtrooper Jedi Hitch reports:
"Finally, new figures! Target has finally started to get new figures in the Spokane, WA area! I picked up the new Padme and Tusken Raider figures as well as the re-pack Rebel Trooper, Imperial Officer, and Eeth Koth. The new head sculpt on the Imperial Officer looks smaller than the one from POTJ. Also, Kmart has been getting in the Destroyer Droid, Yoda, and even Ephant Mon. KB Toys has joined in the markdown parade with the 12" Dooku, Zam, and Super Battledroid down to $9.99. The 12" red and yellow Clones are still $21.99. One more thing, I have noticed that the Deluxe Clonetrooper with Speeder is becoming more widespread. They are sitting at several Wal-Mart, Target, and Kmart stores in the area so if you're needing one (or more) they are showing up in greater numbers. That's it for now."

Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction - Episode 2.03 "Shuttle Shivers and the Boba Fett Blues"

Is truth really stranger than fiction? And are you certain that you can actually discern between the two? General J is your host as you step forward into a world of happenings so bizarre they couldn't possibly be real ... could they?

"Within this hour we will tell you five stories, some real, some fake, you decide. Your call."

If you recall the Deluxe Clone Trooper who was in constant absentia from Beyond Belief's last season, you'll enjoy this next bizarre tale, again from Sandtrooper "THE CHAD:"

"Maybe it is too early to worry, but Yakface.com has reported that the Imperial Shuttle is being found at Disney World. One question is that I thought this was an FAO exclusive, how did Disney get it? Is FAO still carrying it? I am starting to get annoyed. I am not driving three-hundred miles to Disney World to get the shuttle.

"Another problem I had a couple of months ago was the Boba Fett Blues when I witnessed the outrageous prices I saw on ebay for a carded Boba Fett. Every time I see one they want a frickin' small fortune for him. The cheapest I saw was 175 dollars! The thing I wonder about is when the Star Wars stuff first came out how guys like Sansweet and Gus Lopez know that they were going to fetch a lot of money. On a lighter note, I found another Vintage figure on ebay. A POTF Imperial Gunner Mint-on-Card for 85 bucks.

"Now, a little change of pace here. I found something interesting from a non- ebay seller. It is a vintage Star Wars Jawa from a French company called Meccano. I paid fifty-five dollars for it. It was in c-8 shape and unpunched. It is the first time I have ever seen one of these, much less being able to afford it.

"I know that I have a case of Shuttle Shivers. With all the delays I wonder whether we will still see the shuttle. I was on Galactic Hunter and saw that FAO has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I am not sure how this is going to affect the shuttle. I will have to wait and see.

"I can't wait any more. I just got off the phone with FAO's customer service and the lady I talked to said the first shipment of the shuttle have arrived. She was not sure if whether they were going to send out that shipment or wait for all the shuttles to arrive but they got them in."

So, is the Shuttle in FAO's staging area, ready to ship? Or, was there no cold call, us staging this entire episode of shivers? 'Boba Fett Blues?' Or 'I Can't Afford an Italian Suit Blues?"

Click here for the answer to tonight's episode. So, how did you do? If you got this one right then you are clear for landing in the Imperial hangar. For 'Beyond Belief,' I'm General J.

Sandtrooper XbrandonX reports:
"Not a whole lot going on in Richmond, VA. Each Target gets a case of Lego minis in a week, and seems to sell them in about two days. That's great. The more they move, the more new ones Lego will make. It's always good to see Star Wars stuff move. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anything beyond Ephant Mon here, and I've only seen that twice.

"Things are really slow going here. But with the new figures showing up, it'll get better. It appears that the deluxe Clonetrooper wave is showing itself again around these parts, which is good, because I've heard from a bunch of people that they couldn't find one. I have a question. Is anyone else worried about the Shuttle? I called FAO today, after being told January 28th was the ship out date from FAO to me, and now they're saying they won't even receive it until the first week in February. I'm pretty convinced we're not seeing it from FAO. It's been pushed back way too many times, and seems to be on a day to day basis now. Thankfully, I have it on order from an online retailer, as well."

New Wave of Viruses and Modem Scams - I've got Protection, Now I Need Affection:
Troops, the ugly and annoying Klez-Worm virus has been hitting hard once again. I have gotten a few "heads-ups" from readers and I myself have confirmed it, receiving this virus via e-mail over seventy times in the last five days! It comes most often from a prodigy, sprint, yahoo or comcast email server. Here is what to know to get protected so you don't get infected:

1. If you get an email that appears to be sent from "staff_member"@sandtroopers.com (insert one of the site staff member's names), delete it immediately! We do not operate on POP3 protocol, and while you can send e-mails to us at these addresses, we cannot send to you via the same handle.

2. Whether you use an internet-based mail program via the web, or a program such as Microsoft Oulook, look at the message size. If it is between 115-165kB it is most likely the virus. Delete it and be on the safe side (this is the method I use). If you are at all suspicious, my advice is to delete the suspect message and get on with your life.

3. Look for other tell-tale signs such as bizarre, but near believable SUBJECTS on the email (e.g. "Questionairre," "Learn More About How We Use Your Information," "Klez.32 Immunity," "Top Margin," "Pictures of my New Girlfriend," et al).

4. Install a good Anti-virus package. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg either. I can help anyone get a freeware copy of AVG Shield for FREE and it works very well, scanning emails upon arrival and scanning the boot sector of your computer at startup. A firewall program is also a good idea.

Visit http://www.grisoft.com to download free AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus. To learn all about how this virus works, visit this link, this page also has a link to a software patch for MS Outlook. Klez can also add your e-mail addy to dozens of spam mailing lists, read this for info: this link

IMPORTANT: Don't download programs from the Internet without reading the disclosures. Some Web sites may be advertised as "free and uncensored" or may allow information to be downloaded. However, a pop-up window with a disclaimer should appear. The disclaimer usually reveals information on possible charges or the rerouting of the Web site. It may say, "you will be disconnected from your local Internet access number and reconnected to an international location" (which may be Chad, Madagascar, or Vanuatu). It is important that you read the disclaimer to learn what charges will be assessed before clicking the box. Be prepared to receive a phone bill with high international toll charges. There may also be charges from a non-telecommunications company that provides a billing service to the Web site in question. Also, the program may open multiple windows on your screen, sometimes from seemingly unrelated sites. You may still be connected to these international phone numbers until ALL windows opened by the program are closed.

To minimize the risk of this happening have the local phone company put an INTERNATIONAL BLOCK on your computer line.

Sandtrooper Monkey Ambassador reports:
"I live in Georgia and am going to Disney World with my band March 6th-9th. It would be no problem for me to pick up aome extra figures (or anything else) for anyone. The only drawback is: I need the money (unless we are trading) before I go. My wallet is fairly thin. If any one is interested, contact me with offers. If you need some feedback contact Gerald Schill, gschilljr@datastar.net (he sent me some cards and money for autographs before C2). I remember trading with some other people, but didn't save their addresses."

Force of the Bay Super Edition
Hey Troops just got back from the realm of ebay and found some more goodies. I dug up this old fossil, not too shabby and a nice price so far. This Bounty has got to be worth more! I really can't believe how much was unopened. If it is a bargain you are searching for perhaps this Sith Lord is up your alley. Maybe if your wallet takes a hit you could patch it up with the help of this old friend. Now a good way for newer collectors to fill gaps is to hit up a nice auction like this. This is a serious way to clean up. The list wasn't really the entire set of peg warmers there either, seller had some decent ones in there. Online auctions are a tool to be used to your advantage. Take caution: Sandtroopers does not endorse any of the sellers or ebay. Use your head and be careful. There are as many good out there as there are bad. Good luck Troops, Kick A%$ and take names! Spice Out...

"Hi Troopers, Hope everyone's enjoying the SuperBowl. I was traveling through Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin this weekend and stopped at Wal-mart. They had tons of 12" figs all mark down, including electronic Obi and Jango. They also had 2 deluxe clone troopers (I left one) and a beardless Endor Rebel which I bought. If you're interested, let me know. At the Family Dollar across the street, there were some Landos and long-tongue Jar-Jars. That's all for now."

Sandtrooper Jetfire reports:
"I hit a few stores today.

KB: Nothing much besides the figure 4-packs and the Chewie/Han (Escape from Deathstar)or Leia/Luke (swing to freedom) two packs.

Walmart: Found another Deluxe Clone w/Speederbike. Lots of Massiffs as well as a few Geonosian Warriors and Deluxe Geonosian Warriors.

TRU: Still a ton of Landspeeders and figs. Also has the new TIE Bomber Lego set, the new AT-TE lego set and the new Jabba the Hutt palace Lego set. Also had the Vader/Maul 12" two-pack on sale. $39.99
I think. Also they do have the arena playset for $40.

Sam Goody/Suncoast: SNEAK PREVIEW FIGS!! I picked up three clone
troopers, but at $6.74 a pop! They had all of the Sneak Preview Figs and a 12" Vader and 12" Jango Fett (it looked different than the one I had seen earlier but can't be sure... regular skinny 12" fig box?).

Hope this helps some of our troopers out there."

Thanks for the latest great report! I also want to thank Jetfire for the recent excellent trade, sending me a vintage Trypticon and Venom Transformers for a Sacul! Starscream and Jetfire - friends on Cybertron and at Sandtroopers - Slammin'!

Sandtrooper theshredder reports:
"For anyone locally near Wayne NJ, the Toys R Us has A lot of new Ninja Turtles: the Shell Cycle, at least two of each mini Turtle and Giant Turtle, 3 Foot soldiers, and Shredder. I took the last Splinter and a Giant :).

"And just in case the employee who stopped me at the store reads this site, yep, I double checked, and the show is on at 10AM. Wasn't sure if it was 9:30 or 10 on FOX. Funny thing is, he knew about the new movie, and videogame, but either forgot about, or didn't hear about the new show. Spread the word people, some still aren't in the know ;) .

"Also, the Kmart across the lot had two small turtles, a whole bunch o' shell Cycles, and the Leonardo Role Playing swords."

Well, today I went out to Wal-Mart Lakewood and to my surprise they had on the top shelves 14 TIE bombers in the blue box. Then went to TRU Signal hill and nothing much. Sandtrooper Jetfire reports:
"SANDTROOPERS, REEEEEEEEEEEEEEPORT!!!! Hey troopers, here's the latest from the Grand Rapids, MI area:

"Target stores couldn't be emptier. They all have about ten figs total, ten accessory packs (all except Endor) and a bunch of flying Geonosians.

"Walmart near the Grandville Mall had been running strong for a few weeks with trash compactor scenes, Saga TIE Bombers, Nexu and a lot of figs, but not much in the way of big stuff yesterday. A few days before that, I picked up a few Deluxe Clone Troopers, four
Clone Pilots, and two Destroyer Droids.

"TRU's continue to be disappointing. A few TRU X-wings here and there, but not much else beside the 25th Anniversary two packs. I did however find an old POTF2 carded Ceremonial Luke at the back of the rack for a whopping $0.97!! They also have a ton of the 12" Luke
w/Taun Taun.

"Let me know if you need anything! I'm still looking for the Snowspeeder and TIE Interceptor! Rock on Troopers!"

"Hi Sandtroopers, I hope you can help me with my request by maybe posting this e-mail on your site. I have been waiting to buy 2 of the "SW EP1 Queen Amidala (Battle) with Ascension Gun" action figures for the longest time (one to open and one to keep mint in the card), but do not want to spend the high prices they have them for on eBay ( $25.00 + ). When these figures came out, some places had many of them and some had none. I never saw them atn retail.

"I know it is very hard, but if there is anyone out there that wants to hook me up by selling me these figures at a decent price ( max $15.00 per figure + shipping ), please send me an e-mail. Thanks for your help."

Happy Birthday General J
I'd like to say a Happy Birthday to our Webmaster General J! I hope the gift I sent arrived on time and in great shape. I get to actually see how much you do and a lot of the Troops don't know how much hard work and dedication you put in to giving us all a good show, round the clock. May the tanning bed and the Skyy Vodka be kind my friend, don't over do it like I would. Happy Birthday to you from all the staff at Sandtroopers.

Thanks much Lord Spiceowan for the birthday wish and the kind words, and thank you for the outstanding gift of the bootleg Clones, they arrived right on time! Next year, just remember that I'm looking for two sets of smashed Clone Trooper armor! With the arrival of February comes my first full year here too and I will work hard to keep it going in 2003! - Jason Dean 'JD' Meyers

Internet Headlines for Thursday, January 23, 2003:
Three Inches less than a Meter - three new twelve inch figures' pictures are popping up now online. Here are photos of Han Solo, Lando as Skiff Guard, and AT-ST Driver, all from 'Return of the Jedi.' Photos courtesy of ROBO CHRIS, reported by Sandtrooper SN, digitalized by George Collazo

Rocket in his Pocket - Some more photo perspectives of previously seen figures coming from Hasbro in early Spring are available now at SSG. View new shots of Anakin Skywalker (Robotic Hand), Barriss Offee, Boba Fett (Pit of Carkoon), Darth Tyranus (Geonosian Escape), R2-D2 with Jet Thrusters. 'Between the Lines' - references for yesterday's banner headline titles:
Droid and Droider Hasbro's announcement and overview of not one, but two successively zanier play gimmicks in their future wave of Deluxe Droid figures warranted the 'Dumb and Dumber' allusion. A wind-up walking Spider and a Play-Doh fun factory could start a bold new trend in the Deluxe line not seen since 1997.

And a special thanks out to Doobie at the laughingplace.com for hooking me and a buddy up on 10 Star Tour figures. This guy has the best price around that I could find - $13.77 each. I will keep you updated on the show as it draws near. MTFBWY!"

Force of the Bay Super Saver
Spiceowan hitting the early pages but in a effort to display the types of goods that "slip in" under the radar, I decided to switch it up for a while from the usual the unique and rare, and profile some flat out good deals. If you can find a Boba Fett cheaper good luck. I realize that these are not the prices that they will end at but remember there is this and much more at ebay. You find deals like this all over the place. Those figures are rare, 'sorta' rare and not so rare but a steal if you had none. This Tie Interceptor ,may be the answer to a Troops cry earlier this week. Some of the 12 inch stuff was unreal, like I said, not ending on these prices, but even some of the 'Buy it Now' prices are ridiculous! I found the whole band for quite a steal! In addition to some of the old Target Exclusives for dirt cheap Emperor and Guard and Luke and Wampa even in not so good condition, they are still a deal! You can even find entire cases of figures, currently at $30.00 but that is slightly higher than one alone! Like I said at Sandtroopers, we endorse neither ebay or these sellers. There is risk involved so please use good judgement and caution. Good Luck Troops May the Force Be With You!

Updated: For the request of a Tie Interceptor

Internet Headlines for Wednesday, January 22, 2003:
Droid and Droider - This Spring's deluxe entries are showcased at Hasbro's 'Bounty Hunter' section today. Both the Super Battle Droid and Spider Droid feature play-intense gimmicks. The Super Battle Droid's builder set features perhaps the most bizarre accessory to date: "Quick Steel Super Battle Droid Compound." Read on ...

Hasbro Press release:
"Coming to earth in late Spring are the newest Deluxe figures: the Spider Droid and the Super Battle Droid Builder.

"The Spider Droid is a squat, multi-legged droid of destruction deployed during the Battle of Geonosis. Their striding legs are ideal for the rugged terrain of Geonosis, and their crimson eyes radiate with infrared photoreceptors for targeting the enemy through dense clouds of battle. This droid can walk on its own! Just wind up it up and march it into battle.

"The Super Battle Droids are used in battle by the Trade Federation. Assembled in a huge factory on the planet Geonosis, the Super Battle Droids are fearless and tireless. They will run at full speed into combat with cannons extended, firing until they have reduced their targets to smoldering ruins.

"Now you can build your own Super Battle Droid! The deluxe Super Battle Droid builder comes with one container of QUICK-STEEL Super Battle Droid Compound, the Droid Factory Assembly Mold, a Super Battle Droid Frame, and a Launching Cannon Arm with Cannon Projectile."

Check back next week for a peek at the new ACTION FLEET Vehicles

'Between the Lines' - references for yesterday's banner headline titles:
Three Easy Pieces a pun on the film "Five Easy Pieces," in regard to the three new Star Wars pieces for 2003.
Friends of the Library - the library droids are dubbed after your local library's charitable organization, also a nod to Homer's dismissive remarks on 'The Simpsons.'
"The Package" - the second Gene Hackman film I alluded to yesterday after discussing "Narrow Margin."
List Full of Metal - the 2003 product list gets a parody of the Antrax title "Fist Full of Metal."
"Force of a Different Color" - the repainted Clone Trooper and Battle Droid take a ride on a horse of a different color.

Sandtrooper Mark Anderson reports:
"Nothing much to report from here in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN area except that it is really cold outside. I did some toy hunting this morning in the northern suburbs despite the cold weather but did not come up with much. The only find to report is TIE bombers at the Fridley Wal-mart, but it looked like most of the boxes had damage. I also saw POTJ Teebo and BoShek at the Northtown TRU for anyone who still needs those. I am currently trying to sell a complete set of carded POTJ figures(57 figures) and some other misc. items. Check out the 'for sale' page in the forums for details. Many thanks to Heather and Frank for recent trades. That is all for now."

"Can someone help me out with the website that has been advertising the shuttle for $119.99? I saw this on Sandtroopers and can't remember the site that was going to offer them. If anyone has this info can they e-mail me?"

Someone most assuredly will*, the webstore was Cloud City Collectibles at http://www.cloudcity.com . In the event that they have sold out, there are more online retailers that have it available for you. You can always access earlier reports by clicking the "Archived News" link at the bottom of this page to go back through previous weeks and months worth of news posts (grouped by months).

Sandtrooper Larry reports:
"Hey Troops, and Troopettes, Trooper Larry reporting from the N.E. Ohio front. Not much to report, other than the Trash Compacter sets. No sign of the TIE Bomber as of this point. I missed out on the POTJ version, so I will definitely be after this one. K-mart in Mentor is a waste land worse than Tatooine. KB has basic figs up to the pilot wave, still no Ephants. TRU is getting shipments late this week due to inventory. Most stores have cut back, and the ones that haven't are pretty bare boned.

"Keep an eye out at your neighborhood Marcs stores, especially if you missed the Ep1 figs. They have been getting shipments late, due to the strike out west this past November. That's it for this transmission. Be safe troops."

Glad to hear from you again Larry! So, how many of you are in the same category as Larry, having had missed last year's issuance of the TIE Bomber and needing the Saga version? Go to EXTENSIVE POLL at the top of the page and pick your poison!

Internet Headlines for Tuesday, January 21, 2003:
Three Easy Pieces - Matt from TPU has passed along information on three revisited vehicles and a Kotobukiya kit for 2003:

Star Wars 12-Inch Leia With Speeder Bike
Relive that exciting scene on Endor when Leia scoots through the trees on her speederbike. The speederbike is to the same scale as the 12-inch Leia figure. A must for all collectors of Star Wars. Available April.

Star Wars Naboo Fighter With Padme Pilot Figure
From The Phantom Menace comes this graceful craft that was part of the space battle. Comes with a Padme figure. Available April/May.

Star Wars TIE Fighter Vehicle With Pilot
This is one of the vehicles that nearly saved the Death Star and destroyed the rebellion; this vicious TIE fighter comes with its own pilot. Available April/May.

Star Wars Obi-Wan Vinyl Figure
The latest in this great range of Japanese import figures this time it is Obi-Wan Kenobi running into battle with his lightsabre drawn. This vinyl figure is 1/7th scale. Available February

"Friends of the Library" - Visit Rebelscum's Photo Archives to view nine loose and two carded images of the analysis droids SP-4 and JN-66 who assist Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi when he seeks their help in identifying a small toxic dart (Figure '03|#05).

"The Package" - You can now view a Marmit AT-AT Driver packaged photo at SSG. Also see the AFX post below to order this kit.

List Full of Metal - New feature at Yakface.com. The list includes all of the product that we've heard about for 2003, both officially announced toys, and those which have been reported from a number of sources as likely. The product list will be updated regularly. As soon as pictures surface of an item, they'll be linked on the list. An asterisk will be aded to the left of each item as it is released at retail.

Force of a Different Color - Rebelscum.com reports that an upcoming clean Clone Trooper figure will be a repaint of the '02|#17 red Clonetrooper, and that the repainted rust-colored battle droid will also be available in case assortments in future months.

Swimming Jar Jar - Today's 'Image Attack' at TOS is the real-life inspiration for the Jar Jar action figure.

New Contest - at JundlandWastes.com, play "Guess Who?" to win two Clone Trooper Pilots, ends 01/26.

'Between the Lines' - references for Sunday's banner headline titles:
  • Shrink Rap a pun on shrink wrap, 'shrink' refers to the small scale Action Fleet, and 'rap' (instead of wrap) meant the story report.
  • Screaming Hand - was a slogan and great graphic drawn by Jim Phillips and used by Santa Cruz skateboards starting in 1985. Here it is a double-entendre for Mace's screaming expression and the hole in the figure's hand.
    The Inspiration for Screaming Mace

  • "The Search for Alpha-Trion - the hunt for the rust-colored Saga Batle Droid is here likened to the classic 1985 Transformers episode in which the Autobots search for their android creator.
  • "Narrow Margin" - The 1990 Gene Hackman film doubles as the title for the Hasbro Fans' Poll # 5 results. Hackman stars as a deputy DA delivering a key witness by train to testify against a gangster who she saw commit a murder. This brought to mind the craziness associated with this latest poll. A Hackman movie is also one of the Headline titles for tonight ...

Dateline: Columbus, Ohio. "Walmart on Morse Rd at Easton had the new saga packaged TIE Bomber in stock as of Monday afternoon the 20th they still had 7 (2 on the shelf and 5 on the overhead). They had the trash compactor sets too, but I got the last one. I was also able to get the header dispaly signs for the Star Wars section - they were resetting the section and were going to just throw them away - anyone know what they might be worth? Internet Headlines for Sunday, January 19, 2003:
Shrink Rap - YakFace.com has added the future Action Fleet assortment to its image galleries. You may view Republic Gunship, Anakin's Speeder, Zam Wesell's Speeder, or Trade Federation Spider Droid at YakFace.com right now.

Screaming Hand - Mike at ArtoosNews has provided online technical instructions for the Mace Windu (Geonosian Rescue) figure's lightsaber assembly mode. Take a look at a face full of Mace if you haven't gotten all of the play value out of this last year Saga entry yet.

"The Search for Alpha-Trion" - Rebelscum ponders the whereabouts of the rust colored Episode II Battle droid in this brief article, complete with carded photos. Read to get a perspective on when we might see the red battle droid Stateside.

"Narrow Margin" - In an anticipated turn of events so hackneyed that it could have been spewed from the powerbook of the laziest Hollywood hack, Hasbro's 'Fans' Choice Poll' sees dark horse entry Captain Colton Antilles overtaking General Jan Dodonna in the final few hours of the contest here on Day 28. If you haven't voted yet, there is still time (ends at 8AM est). In the meantime, feast your eyes on what will likely be the final results, whilst Hasbro prepares its tooling to mass produce what you asked for:

    Senator Yarua (Kashyyyk Senator) : 25 %
    Ben Quadinaros (Pod Racer) : 13 %
    Rab : 12 %
    Gen. Jan Dodonna : 25 %
    Captain Antilles : 26 %

'Between the Lines' - references for yesterdays banner headline titles:
  • "Go Green Machine" was one of the Ninja Turtle's rallying cries, here aptly describing the twelve-inch Gamorrean Guard.
  • "Why Not Let Dead Pets Vote?" was sub-headline in the Springfield Times newspaper after a mayoral candidate rigged the election. "Cooking Your Goose" is, of course, one of Jonathan Frakes' condescending taunts oft heard on the TV series 'Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction."

    Sandtrooper Dom reports:
"Hi Troops, The local Wal-mart in east central Wisconsin had 4 Saga TIE Bombers today. The differences between this one and the POTJ Bomber are not enough to make me want this one. If you missed the POTJ one, it's worth the $28+, otherwise, let it go. That's all the news I have today. Take care and as always, MTFBWY."

Thanks for the tip Dom. I don't even have to guess how you voted in our Extensive Poll's TIE Bomber question!

Internet Headlines for Saturday, January 18, 2003:
"Go Green Machine" - Pete from the UK's The Private Universe passed along the below image of the on-packaging dossier for an upcoming twelve-inch Gamorrean Guard. Note the ballerina appearance in the frontal shot.

"Why Not Let Dead Pets Vote?" - Thirty-four hours left to StarWars.Hasbro.com in Hasbro's Fans' Choice Poll. This last minute three-way tie looks a little too contrived not to be doctored, but at least it will be interesting to see which figure gets made with no runaway winner here on Day 27. Are they cooking the numbers, or are we cooking your goose? (See Day 26 Exit Poll in Friday's posts for the Poll history compilation)

Senator Yarua (Kashyyyk Senator): 25 %

"New at The Imperial Officers' Club, in the aftermath of the events of Episode 33 (Coming soon) Piett is going to be roaming around in a new feature called ' Piett on the Move.' Check in regularly after the episode goes up to see where Piett finds himself.

"Also, if anyone has ideas on where Piett should be seen or can do their own pictures of where Piett has been, send them in. If I like them they will get put on the Piett on the Move page."

Internet Headlines for Friday, January 17, 2003:
Crabby and Crablegs - the Roga creature from Geonosis makes an apearance in TOS 'Image Attack.' His octopus suction cup feet allowed him to scale the sheer rocks on Geonosis and wreak havoc on the unsuspecting R4-P17.

Motorcycle Street Punk - One loose and eight boxed images of next month's Anakin Skywalker with Swoop Bike at SirStevesGuide. Rebelscum.com has front and back packaged photos as well.

Robots in Disguise Ishi Tib and Barada at The Bothan Spy have assmebled another installment in their ongoing 'Figure Evolution' serial. Today, the development of Luke in Stormtooper disguise is the thesis in the progression of Kenner and Hasbro figures through the years.

Target Practice How would you like to be packing one of these babies?! The BlasTech DLT-19 (German MG-34 Machine Gun) was used by some Stormtroopers on the Death Star, but it's more commonly known as a Sandtrooper rifle. If you've got the funds (about $700), you could purchase a decommissioned replica or you could follow this great tutorial and scratch-build your own.

    Sandtrooper Brian reports:
"Not much new around Indy lately. I did see the new TIE Bombers at Wal-Mart on 96th St. and Washington St. They also got a case each of the new Yoda and Destroyer Droids. Has anyone else noticed that the new Yoda is packaged with a UK insert in the bubble? Take a look at the bottom of yours, all of the ones I have seen say 'Distributed in the UK by Hasbro UK' or something similar to that, kind of strange. Anyway, keep up the great site! MTFBWY!"

Brian, this is a cost-savings attempt by Hasbro to commonize it's paper products for various markets and languages as seen with the multi-lingual packaging on foreign Star Wars product and US Transformers packaging. This will probably become at least a semi-permanent fixture since newer products like the Death Star Trash Compactor sets have the same foreign distribution details on their packaging too.

    Sandtrooper Ray Fillet reports:
"Troops, I called the FAO near Atlanta only to find out that particular store is closing and my order for the shuttle has been canceled, but after further discussion they then said it has been sent on to the New York store. This is where the fun starts when you try to find out whether they got your name and information. I had a heck of a time because the number they gave me for the New York store was of little help in getting to the correct department. Believe it or not the store telephone number only offered operating hours, bus schedules and subway schedules all of which was of no use "ha ha."

"I finally got a hold of someone that said they would check into it and call me back. They have not called me back as of yet and I am concerned that this is going to turn into a real mess. I was wondering if others were having the same problem? I would suggest everyone check with the store (where the order was placed) to see whether they are closing as apparently those stores have been eliminated from getting the shuttle."

    Sandtrooper JEDICOR reports:
"Hope you all had a very good holiday season. We are losing a Kmart here in Corning, NY (closing by April). They had a better selection of Star Wars items than Wal-Mart during the Christmas Shopping Season. Corning, NY Wal-Mart has junk for Star Wars items this week except this morning I did find one new item. They had six new TIE Bombers on the top shelf. Kmart in Bath, NY has the latest wave of figures like Yoda (Jedi Council), Arena Destroyer Droid, Clone Pilot, and other figures, but no Ephant Mon or beardless Rebel. No word about TRU or KB Toys, haven't been there in a while, may be going there tomorrow and will make a report on Monday if I do. Doesn't look like I get my FAO Shuttle until mid February, boy I hate waiting again. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ALL!"

Internet Headlines for Thurssday, January 16, 2003:
Battle Android Troopers - The newest issues of TOS "Image Attack" feature some dynamic concept art on the Geonosian battlefield, shelf space real estate in the Lars Kitchen, and picture that would make Bail Organa say: "I'll be played by Jimmy Smits."

Overdue Notice - Soon to be available on microfilm, michrofiche, and in hard plastic, Research Droids SP-4 & JN-66 can be seen in five photos, in the 2003 packaging at SSG.

AllPosters.com - TFN's Fan Art section is bristling with four creative posters designed by fan artists, each capturing anticipated overtones of Episode III.

Mimeography - The Saga-version TIE Bomber is featured in a Sir Steve's Guide to Star Wars photo gallery, with sixteen images of the latest Wal-Mart exclusive.

A Date with the Xerox Machine - How can one pass the almost two and a half years between now and Episode III? Read non-cannon storylines like Episode III - Destiny of A Jedi at Ain't It Cool News. Here is an excerpt to get your pencil moving:

"Dooku is lying dead on the floor, slained to the chest, Anakin is crouching and struggling with what appears to be a terrible headache, as a mysterious hooded figure is welcoming Obi-Wan in hateful manners. He reveals himself to Obi-Wan as being Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith who controlled the Senate for years. Obi-Wan calls after Anakin, telling him he's in a "dangerous situation" and that he came to save him. Then we see Anakin getting (up) and opening his eyes... that are now burning of hatred. Anakin answers by saying that Anakin is no more, and that he is Darth Vader"

Soccer Mummy - The original Tatooine dweller whose boldest fashion statement is a pile of dirty bandages is back. SSG has added six loose and carded shots of Tusken Raider (Tatooine Camp Ambush).

The Lottery - NEW CONTEST, win the first seventeen Episode III figures at The Bothan Spy, in week seventeen of the ongoing 'Watto's Lotto' game, ends 01/22.

Internet Headlines for Wednesday, January 15, 2003:
Svelte Sneering Sprinter - Rebelscum has added 12 photos of the brand new 2003 Padm Amidala - Droid Factory Chase. You can view both loose and carded images. Note that this Padm sports the classic Elvis Presley sneer.

Foot Clan vs. Bear Clan - Across the street from the Foot Dojo, Yoda trains these new Padawans in the ways of the Force. The latest announcement on 01/15 at StarWars.Hasbro.com, with figures scheduled for a late Spring release.

Going Gah-gah for old man Dooku - Galactic Hunter adds an overview and 20 photos of old man Tyranus on his Geonosian Speeder.

The Headless Raider and the Glazed-eyed Joker - NEW CONTEST, win Tusken Raider and Endor Soldier (beardless) 2002 Saga figures in theJawa.com's latest contest, ends 01/21.

Silver Opportunity - NEW CONTEST, win a Silver R2-D2 at Jedi Defender in their new forum giveaway, ends 01/22.

Yesterday's Headline References: The inspirations for previous story headlines.
Recombinant DNA - this title refers to the 1986 GI Joe mini-series "Arise, Serpentor, Arise!," in which a great new leader was created from recombinant DNA. The Star Wars clones inspired this title for the report of a rumored Clone four-pack.

The Dark Lord's Air Chariot - another nod to Serpentor, the Geonosian Speeder seen as an air chariot for the smug Dooku.

"Freeze! Bounty Hunter - the Boushh 12-inch figure info inspired this reference from King of the Hill, said by newly-licensed bounty hunter Dale Gribble. A double entendre applies here with the "freeze" aspect meant to double as a desciption of the frozen Han accesory.

"Where'd You Get that Cloak?" - the cloaked form in the Naboo Senate box brought to mind Homer Simpson's query to a gang of cloaked nuclear mutants from a Simpsons Halloween Special.

"Ya gotta lothta gutszzch comin' here" - said to the subject of this headline (Bespin Han) by the man himself, Lando Calrissian.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

    Sandtrooper Jedichirp reports:
"I don't believe it! I actually found something new at the Indianapolis, IN Walmart on US 31. They had the repackaged TIE Bomber and the Yoda Jedi council and new Destroyer Droid. They had three Bombers up on the top shelf and I didn't see how much they were. I will not buy the repack, but it did look cool in the blue packaging! No sign of the trash sets though."

FYI Troops: The Wal-Mart price on the repackaged TIE Bomber is $28.64 nationwide.

"Clonetrooper Commander from Kansas City, MO here. Nothing new except that FAO Schwartz called and said my shuttle will be in by the end of the month. And the Trash Compactor Sets are at several Wal-Marts.

"I do have some extra figures for sale. I have 4 Clone pilots, 2 Padme Pilots, Jango Pilot , Destroyer Droid (Saga) and new Yoda for sale, as a SET only, for $35.00 . I know these are peg warmers, but I hope it might help someone out, maybe even those in Canada. Sandtrooper Jedi OX's East Bay, California Star Wars Club:
"Hello Fellow Troopers, I would like to see whether anyone from the East Bay, California area would like to start a Star War fan club. I know there are two fan clubs in the area, one in San Francisco, the other in San Jose, but I am not able to meet at the times they have their meetings during the week. I wouldn't mind the new fan club being affilated with the other two clubs, the more the better.

"By having a club in the East Bay area, we can meet on weekends and don't have to commute far to get to them. It would be a place fans could exchange stories and experiences and trade or sell collectibles. We could also put on Star Wars-themed events or get together for other events in our area. Please email me with any information or if you would like to join or help me!"

"Hello! FAO here in Kansas City called today and said that the Shuttle should be in within the next month."

Trooper "THE CHAD" also wrote me after getting a case of what he calls "Shuttle Shivers." Don't worry guys. As implied before, any planned Chapter Eleven filings by FAO should not interfere with the release and delivery of the Imperial Shuttle. Remember that Chapter Eleven isn't a last breathe for the company and that any activities won't begin until March anyway in this manner. Keep the faith!

Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction - Episode 2.02 "[Insert [Insert] Here]"

Is truth really stranger than fiction? And are you certain that you can actually discern between the two? General J is your host as you step forward into a world of happenings so bizarre they couldn't possibly be real ... could they?

"Within this hour we will tell you five stories, some real, some fake, you decide. Your call."

If you recall the price scanner that haunted a Canadain Wal-Mart from Beyond Belief's last season, you'll enjoy this next bizarre tale, again from Sandtrooper Chris in Edmonton:

"Well not much new has showed up here in Edmonton since the last time I reported (before Christmas). I am surprised? NOPE! No way, no how. I did have a good Christmas, though. My wife got me the Anakin and Padme Unleashed figures as well as the X-Wing and TIE X1 Action Fleet figures and one other figure that I wasn't expecting, Darth Vader Unleashed. The only one that was available in the Edmonton area. When we were looking for these at one of the Wal-Marts here in town I didn't see it because it was buried way at the back on the bottom shelf. When I left to go look at something else, my wife went through there again to get me the Anakin and Padme Unleashed and found me the Darth Vader. So, thank God she grabbed it for me. We ended up going to her parents' place for Christmas and had stopped in Calgary and found that they had only two Unleashed (Anakin, Padme), no Vader, and no Action Fleet, or new 3.75" figs.

"So we left and went to her dad's place. We then went to Lethbridge (south of Calgary in Alberta) on December 27th and found a Supreme Chancellor Palpatine with insert. I grabbed it right away. There were a few others like Teemto and Djas but I had those already. So then on our way home to Edmonton on the 29th we stopped in Calgary again and I found a Ki-Adi-Mundi with insert as well and grabbed it. Low and behold there were a ton of Palpatines, Djas and Teemtos as well as all three Unleashed figures. So, it just goes to show you where all the good stuff is going: Calgary and Lethbridge. Hey Hasbro, there are Star Wars collectors in Edmonton as well, MTFBWY."

So, does life end at sixteen, or did the Saga inserts live well into their forties? Are Canadian collectors not getting the short end of the stick for a change? Or are we just sticking it to you, the inserts only a ghost in the bubble?

Click here for the answer to tonight's episode. So, how did you do? If you got this one corect then your perception is of more value than a Dexter Jetster with insert. For Beyond Belief, I'm General J.

    Sandtrooper Thundercracker reports:
"Hey Troops, KB has been the place to be this week. South Mall in Allentown, PA had the new Destroyer Droid and Yoda, many Swing to Freedom and Death Star Escape 25th Anniversary two-packs for $4.99 each (another Troop asked why the Final Duel set is not among these, I believe these were either overstock or else first Wave cases, hence only Luke & Leia and Han & Chewy), and the usual Saga four packs for $9.99 each. KB also had the twelve-inch Ninja Turtles and even some of the new five-inch series (one each of Leo, Mike & Raph, which I picked up), Kowabunga! Whitehall, PA Wal-Mart is still empty, the last new items there are the twelve-inch Zuckuss wave of figures."

    Sandtrooper Jeffred5 asks:
"Hey Troopers, I am currently stuck in an area were there is only one Wal-mart within 50 miles, and that store never gets anything decent in as far as Star Wars goes. I have never seen any of the exclusives in that store. Can anyone tell me what the Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is for the R2-D2 C-3PO Holiday Set and the two new Saga Trash Compactor sets? Any help would be greatly appreciated, MTFBWY."

Sure Jeff, the Trash Compactor scenes retail for $16.87 each at Wal-Marts nationwide, while the earlier Holiday edition sells at the fifteen dollar pricepoint.

    Sandtrooper Jedi Ox reports:
"Hello Fellow Troopers, I would like to know if there is a Star Wars Fan Club in the San Francisco Bay Area? If so, can I get their information so I can join. If not, would anyone in the East Bay/San Francisco Bay Area would like to start a club? I am a big fan of Star Wars and I would like to meet other fans. I am in San Leandro, California. The Star Wars Fan Club I would like to start would be a place fellow Star Wars Fans can exchange stories/experiences on how Star Wars has changed their lives. We can trade or sell collectibles from the movies. We could also put on events with a Star War's theme or get together for other Star Wars events that are available in our area. Please email me with any information or if you would like to join/help me with a new Star Wars Fan Club in the Bay Area, California."

Good luck Ox. I'm sure you can collect a good amount of fans in your area to assemble a club. In the meantime, you can start a Collector Club in the Forums where you can network with folks in your immediate area.

    Area Report: Lafayette, IN
Hey Troops, I stopped at the SuperWal-Mart on 26 this morning in Lafayette, IN. They had multiples of the Death Star Trash Compactor scenes. In my opinion, these sets look really nice and blow away any of the older cinema scenes. Other than 20 Supreme Chancellor Palpatine figures, that was all Wal-Mart had for the 3-3/4" line. It was pretty pathetic.

    Sandtroopin' Rai reports:
"In case any troops might be interested and are going through toy withdrawal for some reason:

"I just starting to head back to the stores after the holiday craziness. I picked up a really nice looking McFarlane Alien vs. Predator set at the Annapolis Mall (Babbages, $24.99, it probably will be a bit cheaper when it shows up at other places, but I couldn't wait). It's a very nice set. Predator's a bit lacking in articulation, but is still very nice looking. Alien kicks butt! Action features for these toys are really well done (words can't describe how much cooler these are than their original Kenner counterparts), and just what people like me have been dreaming of.

"Art Asylum's Star Trek toys are calling to me too. Those are nicely done. I'm cheezed that one of the characters will end up as an expensive TRU exclusive.

"This is going to be a huge year for toys with Alien and Predator stuff back on the market, the Matrix movies and Terminator 3 coming out (and McFarlane doing the toys, YEAH!), more Star Trek, and of course Star Wars!

"I found the Luke/Leia, and Han/Chewie SW 25th anniv. sets for $4.99 at KB Toy Works in Bowie! They had a bunch of each, so they don't look like they will run out quickly. Don't know why there were no Obi-Wan/Vader sets. Also on the shelves were some figure 4-packs (4 figs for $9.99). KB also has the New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys. The owner (or important person) of Playmates toys used to live in my grandparents' apt. building.

"KB has Onimusha 2 toys (by McFarlane) on clearance for $4.99 each. Really nice looking Samurai-styled toys, with decent articulation, but only one comes with the copious amounts of accessory that I crave. Wal-Mart (Bowie) does not seem to have any of the exclusive sets they were supposed to have had (nor does it look like there is even a hint that they were ever there).

"TRU in Annapolis has Yoda Jedi High Council and Destroyer Droid Geonosis Battle, the latter not being as cool as its Ep I counterparts, The action features really take away from the look of the toy in comparison to the on-screen version, I think). I also managed to find the hard to find Sarah Conner Terminator 2 fig from McFarlane at TRU Annapolis, sorry to say she looks little like Linda Hamilton, now to pick up some of those T-800 Endoskeletons!

"I picked up a "The Two Towers" omer figure for $3 at Wal-Mart, and once you take off the helmet, he actually looks quite life-like, but nothing like the actor. A distinct improvement from the "Fellowship of the Ring" toys which for the most part were not as life-like and didn't so much resemble the actors, but were neat toys. Hope everyone is doing well (and that this novel hasn't put you to sleep)!"

Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction - Episode 2.01 "Play-Doh Fraud Factory:"

Is truth really stranger than fiction? And are you certain that you can actually discern between the two? General J is your host as you step forward into a world of happenings so bizarre they couldn't possibly be real ... could they?

"Within this hour we will tell you five stories, some real, some fake, you decide. Your call."

On a distress signal from Rogue Jedi Princess, Lord Spiceowan found himself at a loss for words for a change. On her travels to ebay she discovered a potential power sucka, so she sent this transmission to Spiceowan and he began his investigation. In the Princess' message she scoffed at the potential Power Sucka. Never one to do anything rash, I decided to investigate this listing as best I could.

Spiceowan remembered having the exact set as a child. The message had listed everything that was missing to the set: a knife, ship, mat and play-doh that was sure to be rusty crusty. I don't recall play-doh being vacuum sealed. The idea that this was going for forty-five dollars U.S. was horrible, unreal!

Spiceowan headed to Brian's Toys. If anyone could give me an idea if this were Fact or Fiction it would be the author of Everything You Need to Know About Collecting Star Wars. So I began to search Brian's site. Nothing, save a Jabba the Hutt vintage Play-Doh set.
I placed a phone call to Mr. Semling who returned my call a little later. He said he hadn't seen that item in years, pieces or otherwise. If he had ever had it, it was years ago and he "probably sold it for fifty dollars." I thanked him for his ever valuable services and hung up. This mystery was getting hairier but the minute. I had believed my investigation would be swift!

After hours of running searches through Google, I began to lose patience. I decided to seek out the advice of a wise and old friend. General J too scoffed at the listing, but after hearing of my adventure I had him interested in this mystery now as well. Spiceowan asked the Princess the source of the price information. The General would run his own investigation and I waited.

While waiting I tried Wizardworld's online price guide but their site was down! This was really starting to test my patience. Hours later I received this and was told that it was crazy to pay that money. There were hundreds out there still on ebay, at maybe five to ten dollars tops!

So Troops was this indeed a Star Wars treasure or was this two new ebay sellers cooking our goose? Try it on for size, and if it doesn’t suit you, cut it off and get back in the chair for a new look in hair. A Fuzzy Pumper Monster set gave kids the best of both worlds: creepy monsters and squishy, growing blue hair.

Click here for the answer to tonight's episode. So, how did you do? If you got this one corect then you can potentially live forever, stored in an airtight plastic container with a resealable Play-Doh top. For Beyond Belief, I'm General J.

That was my first trade through Sandtroopers, even though I've been a frequent visitor for some time. Thanks for running a great site, and thanks to the fellow troopers who help make it so. Regards to all!"

Force of the Bay '03 :
Spiceowan checking in from the realm of ebay. I found this little droid will cause your wallet much trouble. Our friends over at the Jawa may be able to dig up some good ol' game tips for this old fossil. The thing I like about ebay is the endless amount of nostalgia that is everywhere. There is nothing I havn't been able to find. If you can live with imperfect cards this is the place to buy vintage figures. Lando's assistant is worth way more than what he is going for here, ESB card too! Holy discount Batman! Finally our friends at Cloud City bring us one of the most wanted figures from the vintage era. Behold! If it is card conditon you are looking for Cloud City has gold bars. Incredible inventory, check 'em out! That's it for now Troops, Kick A$% and take names!

    Sandtrooper Darthskellington reports:
"Darthskellington here with a wicked report. I was at the Family Dollar in New Diana, Texas today and found some hard-to-find POTJ figures for $5.00 each. They had: Imperial Officer (1), Rebel Trooper (2), FX-7 (1), Royal Decoy (1), Eeth Koth (4), and Zutton (6). If you missed these, or are looking for army builders, be sure to check out your nearest Family Dollar store! What's more interesting, is these are the first Star Wars figures I've seen at a Family Dollar since the orange cards, back in, say 1997. Check it out."

That is good news. I too can vouch for Family Dollar carrying Star Wars, albeit on a sometimes sporadic basis. In Nov. 1997 the store back in Lockport, NY had the POTF2 Wave 11 (Malakili et al.), in May 1999 they would receive Collection 1, Wave 1 of the Episode I series. Then, in July 1999, Flashbacks, including the then hard to find Anakin and Beru. The latest I had seen at FD was in June 2002 with the Lando Wave, which are still present on FD shelves in Eastern PA. So don't count them out!

We'll try to help Fred, I would highly recommend the Trade Forums to assist you with this effort. I hope you plan to share your photos when you get it done as well. Perhaps consider some of the knock-off clones that are circulating, I gave some to my kids and they don't know the difference! Also, they are not "dirty" like the Sneak Preview ones. Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin Area Report:
Trooper Mat-Tambor of the Racine, WI Techno-Union reported the Wal-Mart Death Star Trash Compactor sets were in stock. Upon returning to score the sets he hid for me, I discovered that all but one set were torn. This damage would really tick off a carded collector, so all you openers head for the Racine, WI Supercenter if you are looking for these. Other than that the usual amount of pegwarmers were around and in horrible shape. Card benders make me sick and are just as bad as the ebay slime scalping these very goods. The Fight continues Troops! Thanks again, Mat! Kick A$% and take names.

    Sandtrooper Brian L. reports:
"I have a question for all the 'troops out there. Does anyone know if Wal-Mart is supposed to get any more of the holiday 2 packs? I was between Indy and Detroit throughout the entire month of December and it seemed that they were always in the town that I wasn't in!

"All of the places I asked at either didn't get any or they only got one case in the first place. This seems kind of slim to me, but it has happened before. If anyone knows anything about this or possibly has an extra one for sale or trade please drop me a line! Thanks and keep up the stellar site!"

Brian, I know these are still out there, so a Trooper will come through for you, by hook or by crook!

    Sandtrooper XbrandonX reports:
"Richmond, VA hasn't seen anything new in a long time. One of our local Wal Marts received one case of the trash compactor sets, but the toy department employee held them in the back so an employee from Target could buy the whole case, in exchange for some non-Star Wars Target exclusive. That really angers me. I called Wal-Mart's customer service to complain, but I couldn't get anyone who would listen to me.

"This isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened at this Wal-Mart. They held the Geonosian playsets in the back for at least 3 weeks before putting them out. KB's here have gotten plenty of healthy stock of the Destroyer Droid and Yoda, which is cool. I'm not overly impressed with the Yoda, but it's always nice to have new toys.

"It's very irritating to think that there are stores that are actually working against the hobby (I feel it is working against the hobby, because people are less likely to buy stuff). I have right mind to never deal with Wal-Mart again, but that's not possible since I wouldn't get half of the stuff that comes out. I'm just full of complaints today. But hopefully things will get better. I'm eagerly anticipating the '03 figs and those new Lego mini's. I think I'm more excited about the mini's than anything. They just seem so neat."

"Has anyone else has dealt with Yestertoys?"

Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction - Episode 1.13 "Beeping with the Enemy:"

Is truth really stranger than fiction? And are you certain that you can actually discern between the two? General J is your host as you step forward into a world of happenings so bizarre they couldn't possibly be real ... could they?

"Within this hour we will tell you five stories, some real, some fake, you decide. Your call."

"It had been a great Christmas, I even received the Interactive R2-D2. Early on though, I started having trouble with this thing not recognizing voice commands. After having mine on for less than five minutes, he just stands there and chirps every once in a while and will not recognize any commands. Instead I can only hear a strange humming or buzzing sound from under the dome. I really thought this thing would be cool, but it's becoming more trouble than it's worth. When I get him to respond properly, it is fun to play around with, but that's too hard to even do on a consistent basis. Even "Reset System" doesn't work. "Reset System" doesn't always initiate properly and even if I turn R2 off, he still doesn't reset. Very disappointing. Is mine just defective or am I having user issues? A friend of mine got one and he is having trouble as well, his commands aren't always getting obeyed by R2. But he is keeping his for a conversation piece. I am hoping this is just an isolated incident so I can exchange it for another one.

"I still didn't really know what to do. I just returned mine today. The representative at the return desk said he had had three or four returned, three or four that the customer complained about not being user friendly enough. He told me that's expected when dealing with voice recognition. In fact, we were standing amongst the pile of returned droids as he spoke. But the clerk thought he would take an attempt at stirring the droid in action himself. He carefully removed Interactive R2 from the box and set him up, checking the power supply and manipulating some of the accessible components carefully. I thought to myself that it was very nice of him to feign an attempt at getting my toy to work again, but I was still sad knowing that there was really no hope. I was really only half paying attention when I focused on the sight before me and saw R2 moving around, sounding off the correct series of beeps and sounds, obeying the toy clerk's every command.

"The man said 'He seems to be alright now, but why don't you give R2 the commands yourself to make sure it wasn't just a fluke.' I couldn't believe it! R2-D2 was now working perfectly, it was amazing to me that after my days of frustration trying to operate the little droid with any degree of control and efficiency that he was now responding correctly. I thanked the clerk, thinking to myself that what should have been a disappointing return had turned out to be an unexpected and welcome recovery. As I walked out of the store, a strange feeling gripped me as I wondered how the man at the desk had gotten R2 to respond. I tried to dismiss the odd sensation of wonderment as I took Interactive R2 home again."

So, how could a malfunctioning toy be made to work again so easily? Had there been a bad connection that the service clerk had somehow reestablished? Or, did he perhaps mistakenly grab one of the other R2 units that were stacked nearby? But, then again, how would that have made a difference when those units were all returns as well? Was it a greater Force at work, was the droid possessed? Or, are we just trying to pass off a bad motivator on you, fabricating this entire incident?

Click here for the answer to tonight's episode. So, how did you do? If you got this one corect then you must have been sleeping with the enemy. For Beyond Belief, I'm General J.

Program Note: Episode 1.13 marks the finale of the first season of Beyond Belief here at Sandtroopers.com. But, it hasn't run its course yet. In mid-January we will kick off a full 26-episode second season run with more tales of the Star Wars unexplained. Don't worry, James Brolin won't be stepping in as replacement host in a strange twist of the FOX series, Mr. Frakes will still be emceeing the activities!

Find out who really shot first!
Hey Troops, my latest review is posted for your reading enjoyment. This time I cover the latest offering of Star Wars: Tales, # 14. In this latest issue we find out what really happened in the Cantina between Greedo and Han in comical parody of the People's Court. For all you Ewok haters out there, you may find the first tale a little infuriating, but I have always loved the furry little creatures and the story presented in this latest issue was one of my favorites. There are a total of 7 new short stories in Tales # 14. If you want to get a review of each story, click here. If you want to read this issue for yourself, head to your local comic shop and pick it up while it is still available.
