"Help You I Will" - From ACPin: "Luke sets up camp with R2-D2 on Dagobah in his search for Yoda. While attending to R2-D2, he's startled by the presence of a gnomish creature. Luke talks to the creature about his search for a great warrior. While in the midst of their conversation, the tiny visitor rummages around one of the cases of supplies." Check it out at ACPin SW.

"Membership Has its Privileges" - From Ian of 'The Imperial Officers' Club:' "It took me a while, but I finally got a new episode of The 'Imperial Officers' Club' up. The biggest delay was getting the costum figure needed for this episode finished. It was a very special figure. So check out 'Episode 33: Time for Change.' Also there are some new pictures on the 'Piett on the Move' page. This will be updated whenever I get an idea of where Piett can be found. I am looking for ideas of where Piett will visit next. 'Piett on the Move' will be going on until episode 35. Send me either a picture of Piett where ever he may be or you idea of where you would like to see. The ones I like will end up on the page and credit will be given to those who submit ideas."

Posted by: Jason | 27 January 2003 | 20:36 EST New Wave of Viruses and Modem Scams - I've got Protection, Now I Need Affection: Troops, the ugly and annoying Klez-Worm virus has been hitting hard once again. I have gotten a few "heads-ups" from readers and I myself have confirmed it, receiving this virus via e-mail over seventy times in the last five days! It comes most often from a prodigy, sprint, yahoo or comcast email server. Here is what to know to get protected so you don't get infected:
1. If you get an email that appears to be sent from "staff_member"@sandtroopers.com (insert one of the site staff member's names), delete it immediately! We do not operate on POP3 protocol, and while you can send e-mails to us at these addresses, we cannot send to you via the same handle.
2. Whether you use an internet-based mail program via the web, or a program such as Microsoft Oulook, look at the message size. If it is between 115-165kB it is most likely the virus. Delete it and be on the safe side (this is the method I use). If you are at all suspicious, my advice is to delete the suspect message and get on with your life.
3. Look for other tell-tale signs such as bizarre, but near believable SUBJECTS on the email (e.g. "Questionairre," "Learn More About How We Use Your Information," "Klez.32 Immunity," "Top Margin," "Pictures of my New Girlfriend," et al).
4. Install a good Anti-virus package. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg either. I can help anyone get a freeware copy of AVG Shield for FREE and it works very well, scanning emails upon arrival and scanning the boot sector of your computer at startup. A firewall program is also a good idea.
Visit http://www.grisoft.com to download free AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus. To learn all about how this virus works, visit this link, this page also has a link to a software patch for MS Outlook. Klez can also add your e-mail addy to dozens of spam mailing lists, read this for info: this link
ALERT! - INTERNET MODEM SWITCH SCAM IMPORTANT: Don't download programs from the Internet without reading the disclosures. Some Web sites may be advertised as "free and uncensored" or may allow information to be downloaded. However, a pop-up window with a disclaimer should appear. The disclaimer usually reveals information on possible charges or the rerouting of the Web site. It may say, "you will be disconnected from your local Internet access number and reconnected to an international location" (which may be Chad, Madagascar, or Vanuatu). It is important that you read the disclaimer to learn what charges will be assessed before clicking the box. Be prepared to receive a phone bill with high international toll charges. There may also be charges from a non-telecommunications company that provides a billing service to the Web site in question. Also, the program may open multiple windows on your screen, sometimes from seemingly unrelated sites. You may still be connected to these international phone numbers until ALL windows opened by the program are closed.
To minimize the risk of this happening have the local phone company put an INTERNATIONAL BLOCK on your computer line.

Posted by: Spiceowan | 26 January 2003 | 20:21 EST Force of the Bay Super Edition Hey Troops just got back from the realm of ebay and found some more goodies. I dug up this old fossil, not too shabby and a nice price so far. This Bounty has got to be worth more! I really can't believe how much was unopened. If it is a bargain you are searching for perhaps this Sith Lord is up your alley. Maybe if your wallet takes a hit you could patch it up with the help of this old friend. Now a good way for newer collectors to fill gaps is to hit up a nice auction like this. This is a serious way to clean up. The list wasn't really the entire set of peg warmers there either, seller had some decent ones in there. Online auctions are a tool to be used to your advantage. Take caution: Sandtroopers does not endorse any of the sellers or ebay . Use your head and be careful. There are as many good out there as there are bad. Good luck Troops, Kick A%$ and take names! Spice Out...

Walmart: Found another Deluxe Clone w/Speederbike. Lots of Massiffs as well as a few Geonosian Warriors and Deluxe Geonosian Warriors.
TRU: Still a ton of Landspeeders and figs. Also has the new TIE Bomber Lego set, the new AT-TE lego set and the new Jabba the Hutt palace Lego set. Also had the Vader/Maul 12" two-pack on sale. $39.99 I think. Also they do have the arena playset for $40.

'Between the Lines' - references for yesterday's banner headline titles: Droid and Droider Hasbro's announcement and overview of not one, but two successively zanier play gimmicks in their future wave of Deluxe Droid figures warranted the 'Dumb and Dumber' allusion. Posted by: Spiceowan | 23 January 2003 | 18:07 EST Force of the Bay Super Saver Spiceowan hitting the early pages but in a effort to display the types of goods that "slip in" under the radar, I decided to switch it up for a while from the usual the unique and rare, and profile some flat out good deals. If you can find a Boba Fett cheaper good luck. I realize that these are not the prices that they will end at but remember there is this and much more at ebay . You find deals like this all over the place. Those figures are rare, 'sorta' rare and not so rare but a steal if you had none. This Tie Interceptor ,may be the answer to a Troops cry earlier this week. Some of the 12 inch stuff was unreal, like I said, not ending on these prices, but even some of the 'Buy it Now ' prices are ridiculous! I found the whole band for quite a steal! In addition to some of the old Target Exclusives for dirt cheap Emperor and Guard and Luke and Wampa even in not so good condition, they are still a deal! You can even find entire cases of figures, currently at $30.00 but that is slightly higher than one alone! Like I said at Sandtroopers, we endorse neither ebay or these sellers. There is risk involved so please use good judgement and caution. Good Luck Troops May the Force Be With You!

Droid and Droider - This Spring's deluxe entries are showcased at Hasbro's 'Bounty Hunter' section today. Both the Super Battle Droid and Spider Droid feature play-intense gimmicks. The Super Battle Droid's builder set features perhaps the most bizarre accessory to date: "Quick Steel Super Battle Droid Compound." Read on ... |
Hasbro Press release: "Coming to earth in late Spring are the newest Deluxe figures: the Spider Droid and the Super Battle Droid Builder.
"The Spider Droid is a squat, multi-legged droid of destruction deployed during the Battle of Geonosis. Their striding legs are ideal for the rugged terrain of Geonosis, and their crimson eyes radiate with infrared photoreceptors for targeting the enemy through dense clouds of battle. This droid can walk on its own! Just wind up it up and march it into battle.
"The Super Battle Droids are used in battle by the Trade Federation. Assembled in a huge factory on the planet Geonosis, the Super Battle Droids are fearless and tireless. They will run at full speed into combat with cannons extended, firing until they have reduced their targets to smoldering ruins.
"Now you can build your own Super Battle Droid! The deluxe Super Battle Droid builder comes with one container of QUICK-STEEL Super Battle Droid Compound, the Droid Factory Assembly Mold, a Super Battle Droid Frame, and a Launching Cannon Arm with Cannon Projectile." Check back next week for a peek at the new ACTION FLEET Vehicles

Friends of the Library - the library droids are dubbed after your local library's charitable organization, also a nod to Homer's dismissive remarks on 'The Simpsons.' "The Package" - the second Gene Hackman film I alluded to yesterday after discussing "Narrow Margin." List Full of Metal - the 2003 product list gets a parody of the Antrax title "Fist Full of Metal." "Force of a Different Color" - the repainted Clone Trooper and Battle Droid take a ride on a horse of a different color.

Most stores have cut back, and the ones that haven't are pretty bare boned.
"Keep an eye out at your neighborhood Marcs stores, especially if you missed the Ep1 figs. They have been getting shipments late, due to the strike out west this past November. That's it for this transmission. Be safe troops." amishbelchjr@msn.com
Glad to hear from you again Larry! So, how many of you are in the same category as Larry, having had missed last year's issuance of the TIE Bomber and needing the Saga version? Go to EXTENSIVE POLL at the top of the page and pick your poison!

Three Easy Pieces - Matt from TPU has passed along information on three revisited vehicles and a Kotobukiya kit for 2003: |
Star Wars 12-Inch Leia With Speeder Bike Relive that exciting scene on Endor when Leia scoots through the trees on her speederbike. The speederbike is to the same scale as the 12-inch Leia figure. A must for all collectors of Star Wars. Available April.
Star Wars Naboo Fighter With Padme Pilot Figure From The Phantom Menace comes this graceful craft that was part of the space battle. Comes with a Padme figure. Available April/May.
Star Wars TIE Fighter Vehicle With Pilot This is one of the vehicles that nearly saved the Death Star and destroyed the rebellion; this vicious TIE fighter comes with its own pilot. Available April/May.
Star Wars Obi-Wan Vinyl Figure The latest in this great range of Japanese import figures this time it is Obi-Wan Kenobi running into battle with his lightsabre drawn. This vinyl figure is 1/7th scale. Available February
"Friends of the Library" - Visit Rebelscum's Photo Archives to view nine loose and two carded images of the analysis droids SP-4 and JN-66 who assist Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi when he seeks their help in identifying a small toxic dart (Figure '03|#05). |
"The Package" - You can now view a Marmit AT-AT Driver packaged photo at SSG. Also see the AFX post below to order this kit. |
List Full of Metal - New feature at Yakface.com. The list includes all of the product that we've heard about for 2003, both officially announced toys, and those which have been reported from a number of sources as likely. The product list will be updated regularly. As soon as pictures surface of an item, they'll be linked on the list. An asterisk will be aded to the left of each item as it is released at retail. |
Force of a Different Color - Rebelscum.com reports that an upcoming clean Clone Trooper figure will be a repaint of the '02|#17 red Clonetrooper, and that the repainted rust-colored battle droid will also be available in case assortments in future months. |
'Between the Lines' - references for Sunday's banner headline titles: Shrink Rap a pun on shrink wrap, 'shrink' refers to the small scale Action Fleet, and 'rap' (instead of wrap) meant the story report. Screaming Hand - was a slogan and great graphic drawn by Jim Phillips and used by Santa Cruz skateboards starting in 1985. Here it is a double-entendre for Mace's screaming expression and the hole in the figure's hand. "The Search for Alpha-Trion - the hunt for the rust-colored Saga Batle Droid is here likened to the classic 1985 Transformers episode in which the Autobots search for their android creator. "Narrow Margin" - The 1990 Gene Hackman film doubles as the title for the Hasbro Fans' Poll # 5 results. Hackman stars as a deputy DA delivering a key witness by train to testify against a gangster who she saw commit a murder. This brought to mind the craziness associated with this latest poll. A Hackman movie is also one of the Headline titles for tonight ...

Posted by: Steve | 21 January 2003 | 19:56 EST Sandtrooper Lee reports: "Hi Troopers, it has really dried up here on the Gulf Coast. The figures have been reduced to about three rows of pegs in all the Wal-Marts I have been to. Check the Clearance Sections though, I picked up Jango's Slave I for $13.00 and the box is in near mint condition! There were still four or five left after I snagged mine. That's it for this transmission. Take care and be safe."

Posted by: Jason | 21 January 2003 | 17:48 EST Sandtrooper Kevin reports: Dateline: Columbus, Ohio. "Walmart on Morse Rd at Easton had the new saga packaged TIE Bomber in stock as of Monday afternoon the 20th they still had 7 (2 on the shelf and 5 on the overhead). They had the trash compactor sets too, but I got the last one. I was also able to get the header dispaly signs for the Star Wars section - they were resetting the section and were going to just throw them away - anyone know what they might be worth? Not much else to report store wise, with most doing their inventories and not stocking.

Posted by: Steve | 20 January 2003 | 15:36 EST New e-book news at the Official Site Hey Troops, The Official Site just posted some news about a new e-book to be released soon, A Forest Apart by Troy Denning. It tells the story of Lumpawarrump, Chewbacca's son. It seems that having a father who is never home has caused Lumpy to become something of a rebel, so his mother decides it would be good for him to pay a visit to his father on Coruscant. Trouble soon comes calling and Lumpy could learn a lesson, if he survives. Click here to get further details of the story.

Volume 4. Now with Dark Horse I would take these release dates with a grain of salt, but it would be a good idea to keep your eyes open. Also, February 4th is the release date for Force Heretic I: Remnant, the latest New Jedi Order Book (# 15) by Sean Williams and Shane Dix.

Screaming Hand - Mike at ArtoosNews has provided online technical instructions for the Mace Windu (Geonosian Rescue) figure's lightsaber assembly mode. Take a look at a face full of Mace if you haven't gotten all of the play value out of this last year Saga entry yet. |
"The Search for Alpha-Trion" - Rebelscum ponders the whereabouts of the rust colored Episode II Battle droid in this brief article, complete with carded photos. Read to get a perspective on when we might see the red battle droid Stateside. |
"Narrow Margin" - In an anticipated turn of events so hackneyed that it could have been spewed from the powerbook of the laziest Hollywood hack, Hasbro's 'Fans' Choice Poll' sees dark horse entry Captain Colton Antilles overtaking General Jan Dodonna in the final few hours of the contest here on Day 28. If you haven't voted yet, there is still time (ends at 8AM est). In the meantime, feast your eyes on what will likely be the final results, whilst Hasbro prepares its tooling to mass produce what you asked for: |
Senator Yarua (Kashyyyk Senator) : 25 % Ben Quadinaros (Pod Racer) : 13 % Rab : 12 % Gen. Jan Dodonna : 25 % Captain Antilles : 26 %
'Between the Lines' - references for yesterdays banner headline titles: "Go Green Machine" was one of the Ninja Turtle's rallying cries, here aptly describing the twelve-inch Gamorrean Guard. "Why Not Let Dead Pets Vote?" was sub-headline in the Springfield Times newspaper after a mayoral candidate rigged the election. "Cooking Your Goose" is, of course, one of Jonathan Frakes' condescending taunts oft heard on the TV series 'Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction."
Posted by: Jason | 19 January 2003 | 21:17 EST Sandtrooper Dom reports: "Hi Troops, The local Wal-mart in east central Wisconsin had 4 Saga TIE Bombers today. Take care and as always, MTFBWY." dsoll@execpc.com

"Go Green Machine" - Pete from the UK's The Private Universe passed along the below image of the on-packaging dossier for an upcoming twelve-inch Gamorrean Guard. Note the ballerina appearance in the frontal shot. |

"Why Not Let Dead Pets Vote?" - Thirty-four hours left to StarWars.Hasbro.com in Hasbro's Fans' Choice Poll. This last minute three-way tie looks a little too contrived not to be doctored, but at least it will be interesting to see which figure gets made with no runaway winner here on Day 27. Are they cooking the numbers, or are we cooking your goose? (See Day 26 Exit Poll in Friday's posts for the Poll history compilation) |

Crabby and Crablegs - the Roga creature from Geonosis makes an apearance in TOS 'Image Attack.' His octopus suction cup feet allowed him to scale the sheer rocks on Geonosis and wreak havoc on the unsuspecting R4-P17. |
Robots in Disguise Ishi Tib and Barada at The Bothan Spy have assmebled another installment in their ongoing 'Figure Evolution' serial. Today, the development of Luke in Stormtooper disguise is the thesis in the progression of Kenner and Hasbro figures through the years.
|
Target Practice How would you like to be packing one of these babies?! The BlasTech DLT-19 (German MG-34 Machine Gun) was used by some Stormtroopers on the Death Star, but it's more commonly known as a Sandtrooper rifle. If you've got the funds (about $700), you could purchase a decommissioned replica or you could follow this great tutorial and scratch-build your own. |
Posted by: Jason | 17 January 2003 | 23:21 EST Sandtrooper Brian reports: "Not much new around Indy lately. I did see the new TIE Bombers at Wal-Mart on 96th St. and Washington St. They also got a case each of the new Yoda and Destroyer Droids. Has anyone else noticed that the new Yoda is packaged with a UK insert in the bubble? Take a look at the bottom of yours, all of the ones I have seen say 'Distributed in the UK by Hasbro UK' or something similar to that, kind of strange. Anyway, keep up the great site! MTFBWY!" BrianLustig@prodigy.net
Brian, this is a cost-savings attempt by Hasbro to commonize it's paper products for various markets and languages as seen with the multi-lingual packaging on foreign Star Wars product and US Transformers packaging. This will probably become at least a semi-permanent fixture since newer products like the Death Star Trash Compactor sets have the same foreign distribution details on their packaging too.
Posted by: Jason | 17 January 2003 | 21:46 EST Sandtrooper Ray Fillet reports: "Troops, I called the FAO near Atlanta only to find out that particular store is closing and my order for the shuttle has been canceled, but after further discussion they then said it has been sent on to the New York store. This is where the fun starts when you try to find out whether they got your name and information. I had a heck of a time because the number they gave me for the New York store was of little help in getting to the correct department. Believe it or not the store telephone number only offered operating hours, bus schedules and subway schedules all of which was of no use "ha ha."
"I finally got a hold of someone that said they would check into it and call me back. They have not called me back as of yet and I am concerned that this is going to turn into a real mess. I was wondering if others were having the same problem? I would suggest everyone check with the store (where the order was placed) to see whether they are closing as apparently those stores have been eliminated from getting the shuttle."
