DISNEY STAR WARS RACERS

Racers, the popular Line of 1/64 scale Die Cast metal body vehicles based on Disney's classic cast of characters pushed the pedal to the metal and went full speed ahead in 2007, unexpectedly bringing into their ever growing array of  collectible toy cars a unique set inspired by Star Wars characters.

While similar in size to Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars (about two inches long), these themed Racers have given the dragging force of competition a set of aerodynamically designed vehicles that have certainly lower their opponent's coefficient, increasing Disney's downforce with the velocity only Star Wars can bring into the Super speedway of toy manufacturing, pleasing the likes of fans of the films and car collectors alike.

Exclusive to the Disney theme parks, Racers can be found in Disneyland's Star Trader and at several locations in Florida's Disney World Resort and their affiliate stores. A stroll across Lake Buena Vista in Orlando's Downtown Disney is a good place to commence your search, keeping you away from the Penalty Box. Steer yourself in the right direction by making a pit stop at Once Upon A Toy, the popular store operated by Hasbro. This place in particular seems to be your most resourceful Groove, carrying the largest amount of these vehicles and replenishing their stock quite fast. Magic Kingdom and MGM Studios Star Tour's Tatooine Traders store are also excellent places to find your cars.

While cruising inside the stores, you won't have to cram for their location. Racers are a cushy score hanging in plain view from peg hooks, packed in blue mid size cardbacks with a background design that blends in a star field and checkered graphics. The cards' red and yellow oval shaped logo was designed with all the blow and whistles of car racing in mind, showing a couple of checkered flags on each side of the speeding word RACERS. The colorful logo creates a clear contrast against the blue background of the cardbacks, helping you spot them faster.

Threepio's oversized fenders, ornate hood and duel exhaust system make this Racer not just flat-out superb but also a classic. All for all a Racer made for the Pimp in you as well as for the lonely dweeb.

- DARTH VADER:  This is the one you'll go ape about. It is the perfect bad boy to help you hook up that shady gig as a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue photographer, letting you shoot those beach bunnies while catching some rays. This is the one ride the other dudes will be afraid to race for fear to be creamed. Who wouldn't want to get dibs on this black beauty? This Racer has a menacing coolness written al over, exhibiting a low profile front end, devilish looking red eyed windshield and shinny silver rims. If you want to be called Da' Man, this is the one to give you the title.

- GENERAL GRIEVOUS: Everyone will know there's trouble on the road once this baby comes out of your garage. This small block engine Racer is definitely made for Sand Baggers, allegedly failing to drive a car to its full potential in order to provide a "surprise" for their competitors during a race. So don't be fooled by its small size an innocent look, this little guy packs a punch. Its three wheeled rolling system will ensure stability and perfect traction, letting you burn rubber or bug out within seconds. The all white body, ornate blue dome, grilled hood and extended front leg,  sure make this bugger a head turner. Cruise it!

This Racer is one wicked machine, definitely not made for flakes nor kooks. Its lowered body style, overpowering curvaceous fenders, gilled side panels, black head-lights, shinny silver rims, rounded back with dual blue exhausts and its mean black tinted windshield eyes put you behind the wheel of one serious piece of engineering. You better bring a cool cat with you to unglue you from the seat.

DISNEY STAR WARS RACERS: FINAL THOUGHT

Now that this new line of Racers has been properly introduced, now that you've seen and read about what they have to offer, is time to wave that green flag and let the race begin. Let those engines rev up, let those rubbers burn, let the  hyped up voices of Star Wars and Disney collectors be heard as they proudly get a kick out of watching the show.

One thing is certain, the inclusion of Star Wars to this Line of Disney Racers has expanded the iconic faces of the characters from that Galaxy Far Away even further, making them part of yet another collectible that kids and youngsters at heart will enjoy and treasure. At the end of the toy race when the checkered flag is raised and waved and the winner gets announced, it won't make a difference. Every little Racer in this first Wave is a winner on its own. Despite their small size and underrated status Racers is another great example of the undying Force, buried deep within popular culture, Star Wars has become.
