I LOVE NEW YORK
It
sounds corny as hell being from the outskirts of Boston, but I had
so much fun covering this event. Plus, it was my first trip back
into the city in about 15 years. I don’t want to ramble on about all
of the things we saw since you can view all of the photos that were
posted, but there were some very cool pieces at a few places that
were just amazing. Now that Toy Fair 2007 has been covered it was
time to relax and get some more sight seeing in. Spice and I started
at Ground Zero this morning, and to be there first hand was very
moving. My heart will always go out to those that lost family and
friend on that sad day.
After
Spice made his way to the airport, I went solo through the city.
Toys R Us in Times Square put up their Spiderman 3 promo, and it
looks outstanding. I made my way through Rockefeller Center and to
NBC studios. Then it was off to the Good Morning America stage where
they had all of this years Oscar award on hand, and I accepted the
award for the site first hand! I somehow managed to get a ticket to
a taping of the Dave Letterman show, and I got to sit in the 2nd
row, 3rd seat from the isle. The show I went to was tapped for
Friday night and features Comedian Tracy Morgan, Ventriloquist Brad
Cummings and Rex, and actress Gabrielle Union. My mug will be on TV
since the guy sitting in front of me got picked out of the audience
to go on stage. This is one trip I will never forget. However to
break it down just a little further here was my overall take on the
sights:
Hasbro
Just when you thought we would start to get back knee deep into
re-hashed figures, they pull the wild card out on some new figures
(Force Unleashed) and produce above my expectations, not to mention
how nice the 30th anniversary packaging is.
Attakus
If you are to purchase anything from them my suggestion would be the
Millennium Falcon / Death Star Scene set. This set is simply
amazing. The detail is above top notch on not just this piece but
the entire line is at least worth looking at.
Mini-Mag Stands & Displays
Very cool concept, and the stands / magnets don't take up that much
space and let you display your figures side by side. I also really
like the stadium style display. It gives you more room to show off
your collection.
Kotobukiya
These guys are stepping up to the plate and will not disappoint.
They didn't have the new items on display (Luke / Vader McQuarrie),
but let's just say our ground control got them to talk. All I can
say with respect from our conversation is look out for Kotobukiya
this year. They have some great work to show off.
I'm not going to go into detail about every vendor we saw, but the
ones above just really impressed me. Master Replica's, Lego, and
Sideshow also have some very cool stuff coming out this year as
well. I just wish I had money to buy everything.
The Patrol
It was nice to be able to just have the privilege to see all of this
stuff and it was nice to finally meet Dave (Jokabofe) in person, as
well as meeting up with Spice once again. We all know the Dark Lord
isn’t afraid to celebrate a good time (last time was at Celebration
III) and we had a great time sight seeing through the city. Dave is
a class act guy that is very laid back and seems to be adjusting to
life in the bunker just fine. I had a great time hanging out with
him. I can’t wait until the next mission!
