RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane, Australia
April 13-15
Story and Photos by Greg Thompson (Darth Aussie)

Well, I arrived about 2pm from my local flight to Brisbane and the RNA Showgrounds to help set up our stall at Supanova. Our local Comic shop here in my home town of Rockhampton had traveled over 600 kilometers to attend this show and I was lucky enough to be allowed to help out and get in to see the show. I had taken a chunk of my collection along to sell and was very lucky in selling most of what I had taken.

Guests at the Show included Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian from ESB and Harvey Dent in Batman, Aaron Douglas from the new Battlestar Galactica TV show, Clayton Watson from Matrix Revolution, Ron Glass from Serenity etc and all were doing celebrity signings and photos all through the two days. Friday night also was a preview night allowed for fans that had purchased a two day pass. The special guest appearing for that night only was Karl Urban (LOTR, The Bourne Supremacy and the Chronicles of Riddick).

DAY 2 (APRIL 14)
The morning started very well, lots of interested fans coming along to see all Supanova had to offer. The line up to get in went well around the entire block of the grounds.  The Australian arm of the 501st Legion was well represented there along with another group called Novus Ordo. Lots of great trooper outfits along with Darth Vader, Bounty Hunter and assorted characters and very friendly guys and gals plus the kids get into the act as well.

Dealers and companies had a great presence there. No Hasbro or Gentle Giant at these shows, but the guys who were there certainly made up for it. Exhibitors included Red Robot.com.au,  Madman entertainment, Adult Swim, EB Games, QLD Games, etc. Lots of great deals to be found. I found some great deals on Kotobukiya statue kits and Master Replicas mini sabers for myself.

Also held on Saturday night was a big movie Spectacular Sci-Fi Fantasy Night held at MovieWorld on the Gold Coast! Billy Dee and a few others of the celebs were to attend. I didn’t make it but I was told on Sunday it went off very well with over 6000 people attending.

DAY 3 (APRIL 15)

Sunday was a good morning starting off strong with steady crowds but slowed to the middle of the day. Our store did ok today but not as good as the Saturday. I lined up to have a photo with Billy Dee and get his auto on a 8x10. Doesn't say much though I must admit. More seminars were held along with giveaways throughout the day .We eventually closed it at 6pm and was out by 8pm. All-in-all a great weekend!
