STAR WARS HASBRO PANEL

Since Friday is Star Wars day, the Hasbro panel was focused on figures from this line. The presentation begins with the Galactic Heroes. Hasbro will create more cinema scene packs with exclusives form Wal-Mart, Target, and TRU. Then more details on the next to be released Star Wars transformers, AT-AT, Juggernaut, Luke Speeder, and Death Star. They will start a Transformer Showdown 2-pack line to begin with Darth Vader vs. Obi-Wan a Wal-Mart exclusive.

Hasbro quickly proceeded with the 3 ¾” line for Star Wars. This presentation was focused on the TAC wave. Wave 5 should be hitting stores in September; wave 6 will follow in October. Of course the monthly cadence follows with wave 7. A wedge to cover “The Force Unleashed” video game delay; dubbed wave 7.5 will go on the shelves in December. TAC will continue into 2008 with a January release of wave 8. After the 60 coined figures are released they will begin a stand pack in for this line, with figures from the new video game from Lucasarts and the 2008 wave 1 February release.

The Fan Choice line continues this year with wave 3 release in September. An interesting tidbit with the wave 3 EPII clone commanders the ranking dots will be positioned to be more accurate to the movie. Wave 4 will be released in October of this year. A wave 5 line was announced. The expected release for this wave will be spring of 2008. The question pops up, “what did the fans defined for wave 5?” The answer is nothing was declared by the fans in the 2006 poll. A poll will be start this year to define this wave. Very soon each Star Wars collecting fan site, like Sandtroopers.com, will deliver a set of figures they want to see and a final poll will be tallied on starwars.hasbro.com at the end of August. Most likely, all the sites involved in the semi-weekly Hasbro Q&A will be contacted in a few days. Hasbro wants to answer the fans requests and they have stepped up to the plate. They would like to start the voting on August 8, 2008 on their website.

The comic 2-packs are a huge hit for the fans, so Hasbro should have 18 of these sets released during the 2007 year. Some of the newer additions for this year are the “Empire #39: Lt Jundland (Luke) & Lt. Shan”, “Empire #37: Mouse & Able in Stormtrooper disguise”, and “Star Wars Tales #23: Republic Commando & Super Battle Droid” comic 2-packs.

New vehicles are planned for 2008, just like their 2007 new sculpts like the General Grievous Starfighter and the AT-AP. The TRU exclusive Blue Obi-Wan & Green Anakin Jedi Starfighters from EPIII line will be released to satisfy customer wants. Hasbro will release more battle packs this year, like the Clone Attack on Coruscant in September and The Hunt for Grievous in October. This will be followed with 2 more releases in November, the “Capture at the Droid Factory” & “Betrayal on Bespin” sets. Not to mention the Entertainment Earth Mandalorian Battle Pack sets due out in November. The Evolutions packs are making a coming back. Retooling will be done on the original three sets with a limited re-lease.

Of course as well all know the important release of the SDCC 2007 exclusive the R2-KT astromech droid, in memory for Katie Johnson. She is the daughter of the founding member of the 501st. Hasbro and Lucasart will support the Make-a-Wish foundations in San Diego and South Carolina with a $100,000 donation.

The excusive for the TAC line is endless. Between the SDCC exclusives Obi-Wan/Yoda 2 pack & Shadow Scout on Stealth Speederbike to the concept General Grievous figures, Star Wars collectors will need a bit of help to acquire such collectible items.

Hasbro is venturing off into another line called Mighty Muggs. These new sets are vinyl figures with a rounded physique. It is an odd looking line, but looks to be targeted towards the very young. Speaking of the younger generation, Hasbro has been having a good market with the Unleashed Battlepack line. They believe the kids who may have out grown the Galactic Heroes are finding there way to this line. This line will continue for some time, with planned releases like the “Rebel & Imperial Commanders” & “Rebel and Imperial Flight Crew” sets.

The final announcement from the Hasbro team is the new line for the Indian Jones. The classic films will be released as well as the new Indiana Jones IV movie will get a set of action figures. All the figures will have an artifact pack in and the scales will be tied closely to the vintage line.
