SANDTROOPERS GROUND ASSAULT BEGINS ON SDCC

It starts 6:45 AM in Los Angeles. The armored transport was used instead of the Dewback for speed. It will be at least a 2 hour drive just to get to San Diego. Even with the assault vehicle hitting the pavement, traffic into the San Diego for Comic-Con 2007 still slowed us down. Weapons were on stand down due to the extreme number of citizens. We finally parked at 10:00 and reached the San Diego Convention Center. Lines are long, even to pick up will call tickets. At 10:35 with badges in hand SDCC 2007 starts for this trooper!!!

Today is Star Wars day for Comic Con. I start by walking into the exhibit hall just to look around and take in all the excitement. The vendors here seem to out number the ones at Star Wars Celebration IV. Gentle Giant and Hasbro are the first booths I see as I walk into the hall. It is just exciting seeing all the people walking around. There are fans of all kinds and I can’t even identify some people costumes. What a crazy crowd!!!

It’s almost 11:00 and time to head towards the 11:30 Star Wars Hasbro Panel. Plenty of details were revealed, but nothing unexpected. Read here for more information. I stayed in the room after Hasbro finished waiting for the next panel to start at 12:30. The Lucasarts panel was “The Force Unleashed” video game-fest. They start up with the trailer and give pretty much the same information. April 2008 seems to be the release date. I met Josh for the first time around 2:00, just in time for the official Sandtroopers.com official interview time with the Star Wars Hasbro. The marketing officials Darryl and Randy were very nice and answered all of our questions.

After the interview I headed off to the floor to pick up my exclusives and to stand in more lines. I started with Gentle Giant, followed by Sideshow Collections & ACME, and then closed out with Hasbro. My one complaint is Gentle Giant switched one of my pre-order items and that needs to be resolved. My other peeve is the limitations they have on the action figure exclusives. Yeah it deters scalpers, but puts a hurdle in helping out troopers. I am about 70% of the way there.

During my visits with the panels and exclusive hunts, Josh covered the floor taking pictures of Sideshow, Gentle Giant, Kotobukiya and others. Understandably, Star Wars is a small focus for he companies’ product lines, so we have pictures from other types. He did a good job for covering the huge exhibit floor today as well as fighting the crowds to get to the items for pictures.

After my exclusives run I dropped the stuff in the car and grabbed some food. The 5:00 Star Wars at 30 Steve Sansweet was next on the agenda for me. I got in line again, but it move swiftly this time and we were in Hall H waiting for the show to start. Steve started with announcing that 31 years ago SDCC had previewed Star Wars and is indebted to the fans here for such a great following. He started a video with a collection of Star Wars effect on the pop culture over the 30 years. Then he started up a video of with highlights from Star Wars Celebration IV, good memories for me. Then he introduced Seth McFarlen to discuss the Star Wars Family. This was quickly followed up with Hayden Blackman to discuss the next Lucasarts games. A small preview of The Force Unleashed video game was played on the screen, then a surprise announcement of Lego Indiana Jones video game. Steve rounded out the panel with a small video on the current production of Indiana Jones 4. The title still has not been released.

Tomorrow should be an interesting day since more people will be there and the Masquerade, costume contest will be running that evening. I expect to see more freaks in garb. Not to mention closing out the rest of the stuff I need. Until tomorrow, United we Find.
