SANDTROOPERS
INVADE MSI It
was the opening day for Chicago for the exhibit Star Wars: When
Science meets Imagination. The Museum of Science and Industry once
again was host for the Midwest Garrison as they hoped to bolster the
crowd that might be interested in attending the exhibit. After
bringing my Dewback to a literal crawl from Irving Park Road all the
way down Lake Shore Drive, I was barely on time for the ten o’ clock
start time. I was very happy to have taken part in several other
missions at this venue, therefore the layout was still pretty fresh
in my mind.
After locating several members of the Midwest Garrison and Rebel
Legion groups, I quickly prepared for what was to be a very smooth
blend of Star Wars characters. There was quite the variety
everyone’s favorite heroes and villains. The group was led by Darth
Vader, Boba Fett, several Stormtroopers, a lone TIE Pilot, tech and
of course a Sandtrooper covering the rear. The Rebel faction was
very impressive as well as they featured a very slick C-3P0,
Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Padme Amidala and a Rebel Soldier. We even
had a representative from Jabba the Hutt with a Gamorrean Guard to
help assist with our security detail. It was pretty interesting to
see such a wide range of characters, even Obi-Wan Kenobi made it out
to let everyone know I didn’t need to see their identification.
We were only scheduled to be on the floor for a few hours but the
time really flew by fast. I enjoyed watching all the smiles, and
kids screaming for Chewbacca and C-3P0! Before we knew it, the time
had come to suit down. The people at the museum were kind enough to
give us vouchers for the exhibit, but when we tried to redeem them
we learned tickets were sold out for the day. It was somewhat
disappointing but I prefer to return on a later date with my family
and enjoy the sights. I even learned Master George Lucas himself
would be at the Museum tonight for opening ceremonies but for
whatever reason the 501st would not be needed. If you do manage to
get in the area, I’d recommend taking a peek. As that was all I was
able to obtain for today but I promise to return with detailed
photos in the near future for those Troopers not in the range of
being able to attend. United We Find.
