February 17-19, 2012
Story & Photos by Nabil Carrillo a.k.a Nabil6901

The largest annual convention in Florida kicked off February 17, 2012, and I was really excited to be covering the event officially for Sandtroopers.com. The 3-day event would no doubt pack quite a punch but sadly I could only attend Saturday. If you love basically anything Sci-Fi like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Star Trek or Super Heroes from universes like Marvel & DC, than this no doubt was the place for you. There were even some of the more obscure aspects of pop culture and anime such as DragonBall Z, Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist and if this is what you were searching for, then you definitely went to the right place. At MegaCon you can share all of that with fans that share the same passion and excitement that you do. There were many fans dressed up in cosplay, and I'm not quite sure who enjoys it more, the kids or the people who pretend to be the characters they love! There was quite a turnout of people dressed as Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Batman, Batgirl, Robin, Superman, Darth Vader, Stormtroopers.... should I go on? The staff did a wonderful job with the floor plan and making sure lines and programming were running smooth and on time.

For the Star Wars collector that lives in all of us this place is pure heaven. If you were looking for something to add to your collections then you're in luck because you'll find figures that you haven't found in stores such as original Kenner Star Wars Vintage figures mint on card. There were also movie-based figures from Power of the Force Lines all the way to RotS figures, 30th anniversary figure all the way to current Clone Wars and modern Vintage Collection figures. You can find anything and everything on the dealer floor and the prices weren't as bad as I thought they would be. If you love anime then you'll find figures only available in Japan, now I got to say I love that a lot cause I personally found 2 exclusives Japanese figures. One is from DragonBall Z, a Super Vegeta statue, which is insanely sick looking, and the other is a figure of Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto Shippuden. There was overall an impressive selection of toys and collectibles.

Now one of the most exciting things for me was meeting the actors who brought to life great characters like Darth Vader (David Prowse), Boba Fett (Daniel Logan), Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), Tuvok (Tim Russ), Vegeta, Piccolo and Yamcha (Chris Sabat), Broly (Vic Mignogna). They were all great people and it was fantastic just to say thanks and show my appreciation for what they've done. They had many great events as well such as the Anime Costume Contest to see who had the best anime costume! AMV contest, Anime voice actor panels, Star Wars actor panels and things like that are always fun to watch and Iím glad that I got to see a little bit of everything. I must say this was a fun event and I'm really looking forward to next year! Until next time Troopers, United We Find.
