Gen Con
Indianapolis
Hello troopers and gamers, your old friend here Boba
Binks has just returned from another action-packed Gen Con
convention. I took in the event with some fellow troopers in the local Bloodfin Garrison and the fighting 501st. The
troop transport came and picked me up
early for a day full of gaming fun.
In case you are not familiar with this convention, Gen Con Indy is the original, longest running, best attended, gaming convention in the world. For nearly 40 years, Gen Con Indy has been setting the trend and breaking records. Last year, more than 26,000 unique attendees experienced Gen Con Indy. The biggest complaint heard is that there is simply too much to do, see, and experience. Get lost in a phantasm of art exhibits, stare at jaw-dropping costumes, meet the movers and the shakers in the gaming industry, check out the newest games both table top and computer and get a sneak peek at the latest editions. Oh! Of course, play your heart out with fellow enthusiasts in a community that understands your passion.
Since I am "broken" as I was told. Yes I have a broken ankle and thus will not be able to troop for a long. I basically stood / sat around and enjoyed the atmosphere and hung out with my fellow brethren in the fighting 501st.
Upon entering the exhibit hall I ran into a very good friend I have
met over the years at Sandtroopers.com, Dean Mitchell who has been in the new Doctor Who,
Hot Fuzz, and of course Star Wars Episode III as Cellheim Anujo. I got to chat with him for a few minutes and I just want to say welcome to the
United States. Dean now resides in Los Angeles.
Anyways I crutched around the convention center the best I could taking breaks to rest my leg when I could. There were lots of people, some in costume, many playing games, and more. There were also game demonstrations, tournaments, previews of upcoming products and more. It is definitely a
gamer's paradise. One of our local members brought his R2-Unit. It has all the bells and whistles to move around, light-up, talk, and more, a very wonderful creation indeed.
After a long day at Gen Con the local Bloodfin Garrison and 501st members all went to the Bloodfin Garrisons local hangout, The Ram.
Where we all ate dinner and hung out with Peter Mayhew a.k.a. Chewbacca.
All and all it was a good time to be had by all. I was just happy that I got out of the house and got to hang out with some good people. Until
Gen Con 2009 keep playing your hearts out.
