SANDTROOPERS
HAVE SECURED THE BUILDING
We
arrived at the convention center slightly later today having got
some of the more urgent things out of the way yesterday. We hit the
queue line at about 7am and the fan club was let in even earlier
than we were meant to be at 8.30. We made the most of the hour
before the rest of the non fan club members were let in using the
opportunity to get some photos of the Hasbro stall. There was
nothing brand new on display there but we got to see some of the
upcoming comic packs and some TAC waves 5 and 6 figures which we
hadn't seen in person in the UK yet and they all look really good.
Hasbro also had a lot of their transformers, Galactic Heroes and
Titaniums on display but nothing new, just older stuff. They were
giving out the CE coin along with an action figure poster; we
grabbed as many coins as we could for troopers here. We also went to
check out the Lego area and they had some really impressive stuff
including a Mos Eisley Scene and a pretty big Jawa Sandcrawler. They
were also showing demos of the rerelease of the Lego Star wars game
and had demos of it for people to try out.
After
another quick tour around the dealers during which I got a great
bargain on a Collectors Society Maul Mini Lightsaber, we headed over
to the Celebrity stage for Force of the Fetts. We managed to get
front row seats and the show turned out to be pretty good. Warwick
Davis held a kind of talk show with Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan,
questioning them about their experiences as the renowned Bounty
hunter Boba Fett. They also got the guys to do a bit of
improvisation by dubbing their voices on to a scene with Luke and
Uncle Owen talking about how bad Beru's cooking is which was really
funny.
We went over to the Kids' Jedi
training Academy today and watched the show. They were doing it
every hour but it was packed out every time because it was so
popular. The kids loved the lightsabers and they all got really
involved to defeat Darth Vader on Dagobah, who actually ended up
falling into a pot plant. The actors and actresses were really good
and made it so real for kids it was great to watch!!
Next
up on the agenda was a trip over to the Platinum Stage for the Clone
Wars Preview, which was presented by Steve Sansweet. There was a
video with interviews with Dave Fironi, the Director and Catherine
Winder the Producer. They talked about the concept developments for
the design of the show and characters etc. and gave a quick tour of
the studios. The trailer for the program was amazing and the crowd
loved it so much that when it finished Steve put it straight back on
again. It got me really excited about the TV Show; I can't wait for
it now!!
Staying up on the Platinum Stage we
then attended the Force Unleashed with LucasArts preview. They had a
panel with some of the games actors (including the guy who plays
Darth Vader's secret apprentice) and people working on the game and
they showed a documentary of behind the scenes footage for the game.
We learned a lot about how they had developed the story and worked
closely with George Lucas on it, they held a question and answer
session and then rounded the presentation off buy showing the
trailer for the game. The actual in game footage looked pretty good
and I can't wait to see more.
After
a quick lunch break we went and joined the queue for the Anthony
Daniels's talk on the main stage. By the time we got there the queue
was already half the way around the exhibit hall so we didn't get
very good seats, we were right at the back. When Daniels came out on
stage we got a massive welcome and preceded to leave the stage come
and come back on twice to get a massive round of applause each time.
He put on really good how, telling stories about funny stuff that
happened on set mainly, he also took questions from the audience. He
really seems to love what he does and he definitely has a fair bit
of love for himself too!!
We then went over to the autograph
area and gave Christine Hewitt her ST T-shirt like Spice asked us
to, she was very nice and even though she didn't really remember
Chris she said Sandtroopers sounded familiar. I'm sure the Dark Lord
himself would prefer it that way! I went and got Shannon Mc Randle's
(Mara Jade's) autograph, which was nice and quick because there was
no queue, she was a bit moody but I got a pretty cool signed photo
and I had a picture taken with her so I wasnt too bothered that she
was grumpy.
The
last show of the day was the Celebration Europe Costume Pageant,
which was brilliant fun. Warwick Davies presented the show but all
his noted got mixed up so he was saying the wrong things about
peoples costumes like "she then attached red ribbon" to a guy
dressed as a Sith lord. Eventually he gave up and just made it up as
he went along but it really was great stuff. The pageant was split
into two groups, under 16's and over 16's. The kids contest was
great, Ray Park came on the give out the prizes and a boy dressed as
Lego Darth Vader won 1st prize. The adult contest was a bit more
serious, I guess people have spent such a long time making their
costumes that it not quite as funny to them when all the notes got
mixed up. Jeremy Bulloch presented a guy dressed as a Wookiee with
first prize but the person who did Han on Taun Taun was the best one
there really because he was really original.
And so ended our second day at
Celebration Europe. The crowds were a lot worse today as it was
completely sold out. We saw some great shows and presentations and
just kicked back and enjoyed it without the worry of getting Mark
Hamill's autograph like yesterday.
